RMweb Gold Popular Post JustinDean Posted November 28, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 28, 2023 Last of the inset timber work is now glued in at the top of the incline. A few bits of DAS clay here and there also. I’ll be pushing some more DAS around tomorrow hopefully. Last week was a write off. Car died, recording system at work died, then my 92 year old dad had a fall and has been in hospital a few days. Superstitious folk say these things happen in threes. I hope they’re right! Anyway all three are currently being fixed and will be operational again next week. Jay 9 2
Tortuga
Every time you post a shot of the timber infill being installed, my mind sees a train of weird silver cauldron wagons until reality reasserts itself and they resolve into a row of nuts. 1

Peter Kazmierczak
Brilliant photo of the North London tank at Middleton Top, Justin. The track wending its way in the background between the stonewalling was totally convincing. The only "tell" was the tie-bars on the points... We used to live in Two Dales, so I know the area well. Totally captures the atmosphere of the place. 1 2

RMweb Gold Popular Post JustinDean Posted December 26, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 26, 2023 Recently I read with interest on Tony Wright’s thread the commentary about supportive/unsupportive partners when it comes to our hobbies. I’m really glad I don’t feel like I need to sneak purchases into the household; in fact Cazz finds the plethora of tiny boxes arriving in the post amusing. She also encourages me taking over the dining table over a weekend to build a kit or whatever. She usually sets up at the other end with some kind of acrylic nail kit; both of us filing, painting and glueing bits of plastic. This Xmas is the first time she’s bought me something hobby related and an excellent present it is too! A portable spray booth with extraction and lighting is going to come in very handy for painting a [cough] few [cough] wagons over the coming months in preparation for SWAG. Many of you will know about the legendary SWAG but just in case, the South West Area Group meeting in Taunton at the end of April every year (Sunday 28th 2024). It’s an incredibly friendly, informal RMWeb member orientated exhibition organised by equally friendly, informal @NHY 581 aka Rob. This will be Middleton Top’s first exhibition and the first time I’ve taken a layout anywhere since IMREX ‘91. I’m a solitary modeller so showing the last four years work off for the first time is quite exciting! In addition I’m also organising a Midlands Area Group exhibition (MAG) - I’ll be finalizing details of this across January. Enough waffle….back to the port and cheese. I hope you’re all having a merry time! Jay 21 1
Middlepeak
Hi Jay, A very handy acquisition, and full marks to Cazz for her support for your endeavours. Looking forward to seeing Middleton Top 'on the road' (SWAG date now in the diary). Shout if any help needed with the preparation. SteveyDee68
What a smashing bit of kit to get as a Christmas pressie - she’s a keeper! 😁 My pre-Christmas present to myself was a(nother) Victory tank loco. (Like I don’t have enough of them already!) And I have just a few more days left to resist buying another for £99 before their promotion code runs out!! Enjoy Christmas, and looking forward to seeing your layout develop further in the new year! Steve S
RMweb Gold Popular Post JustinDean Posted January 20 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 20 (edited) Very little work has happened on Middleton Top since Xmas. Actual proper workhas been surprisingly busy. Today I had a wander along the track bed with the dog (Ripley) along the Longcliffe to Hopton section. Walking up the route of the king siding at Longcliffe gives this delightful view of the goods shed. The goods shed close up. Looking back at Longcliffe. Quarry siding loading dock on the left, station house in the distance, end of the good shed on the right of the track bed, then retaining wall backing onto the quarry. The raised siding on the right was used for a water carrying tender, sited to replenish loco’s on this stretch of the line. It’s a bleak and beautiful stretch of the trail. Harboro Rocks Didn’t see a single person apart from one of @NHY 581’s mates. Edited January 20 by JustinDean 23

RMweb Gold Popular Post JustinDean Posted February 7 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 7 Dry stone wall continues to be worked on, planking has had a wash of grey and a few other bits attended to. Nice to finally get some time back on this! Vegetation around the base of the engine house is now starting to creep in. I’m making my second visit to Belper Model Railway Club this evening. Through Facebook I found out they’re about to embark on a 7mm scale model of Middleton Top! Jay 16
