I can't take any credit for the modelling, the shed is part of 'Marsh Lane' on the Preston O Gauge group's layout. I did build 41229 though, it's from an old Red Rose Models kit with a shedload of Laurie Griffin castings to lift it into a higher league.

An unidentified Scotrail Class 156 sits at an empty Tulloch Bridge station waiting for the electronic token to proceed back down the line towards Glasgow Queen Street.  Taken on one of those rare sunny days on the West Highland Line.

The one going from the cylinder to the Smokebox is the exhaust and the other one comes from the boiler mounted regulator on the opposite side to the manifold inlet into the steam chest.

 

I'll hunt up some other pictures later to show the arrangement

i ask because ive not seen that arrangement before, normally the steam from the boiler comes up from inside and then exhausts out the front of the cylinder straight into the chimney

Ah that's because I used a modified Wilesco cylinder / engine bed from a traction engine, modified to be mounted centrally and supplying steam to the steam chest from the boiler - the regulator is a modified cylinder drain cock through a bottom mounted manifold with the same exhaust arrangement from the cylinder - not that dissimaler to a Garrett tractor that exhausted into the Smokebox as opposed to the chimney base.

 

The build used Wilesco and Mamod wheels along with Meccano gears for a 40:1 reduction - everything else scratch built or my own castings
