The odd thing is that Raindrop has not done this before!

Perhaps she’s been reading this thread…

Maybe. She does get on cat.net when I am not around. She must as my usage increases a bit even when I have everything turned off and disconnected!!

John gave it a try yesterday but kind of failed, he still slept in it for a couple of hours!

Thats not a failure on his part, you just failed to provide a sufficiently robust box!

Good thing that did not happen soon after the lockdown! That would have been a real catastrophe!

Went into the Vets this morning to buy some more flea and wormer stuff.  Got told I would have to bring Tilly in for a check up before they could sell me any - apparently some change in regulations back in January.  Check up would cost £36!  I decided that as Tilly very rarely goes out these days, she could wait until her regular vaccinations and check up next month.  Quite apart from the cost, it would mean Tilly getting disturbed by being lugged of to the vet which she can do without.

Sensible. No need to take a cat to a vet more often than necessary. It causes them stress and they don't like the car journey. Marley hates it and it's always a fight to get him in the carrier.

An "improvement" in regulation that makes it less likely that animals will get such protecton.

Or a jobs for the boys rule.

I do not know about the UK but that stuff is available here OTC.

Most medication for pets needs a prescription, but some things like worming tablets can be sold to the public so are available online which is generally cheaper than the vets who make a profit on sales.

One of the benefits of going through the vets for something like that is that you should be prescribed a product that is effective and not something that doesn't really work properly and which is bought from a non-specialist source. That's certainly our experience with regard to flea treatment.

And anyway, our vets are really good, professional and kind and have helped us and our cats so many times, so I don't begrudge them their profit.

We used to take our 2 cats to the vet for flea treatments, the prescribed ones certainly worked. Later on Raffertey, who was 9kg, was offered an alternative because of his weight - that certainly worked. George however was kept on the old type, which we then sourced online (without prescription by then). We pay about 1/2 the price that local pharmacies sell it now.

Raffertey has sadly crossed the rainbow bridge. To the end he had to have expensive tablets to help him go to the loo, eyedrops available on prescription only, and normal (ie human) eyedrops, which are available over the counted. However, again we bought the latter online at vast savings.

We have since gained a rescue kitten, he is now approaching 10 months, growing into a lovely cat. He too has the same flea treatment as George.
