RMweb Gold Popular Post Stubby47 Posted December 16, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 16, 2021 Due to various reasons, I'm building a small 009 layout. This will be ready for the SWAG Party in April. This will be on a BB017 baseboard from Justin at Scale Model Scenery. Most of the buildings will be SMS kits, possibly slightly adapted from the original. Point control & uncoupling will be by Wire-in-tube. Here is the start of track laying. And here is the station complex
AKelsall
Good work so far, treat yourself to a can of Strongbow Dark Fruits as a reward.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted December 16, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 16, 2021 I don't drink those - they're my lad's. It's been too cold in the garage for the glue to dry, so actual layout construction has stopped, hence the start on the buildings.
RMweb Gold Sweet pea Posted December 17, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 17, 2021 Stu nice to see you modelling in another scale, look forward to seeing this layout build develop.
RMweb Gold SouthernRegionSteam Posted December 18, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 18, 2021 Ooh, this will be interesting, Stu! I must admit, I had to do a double-take in the first photo. Took me a few seconds to realise that the far left point wasn't laid yet - if it was, I think you'd have a fair few derailments! Anyway, I love the buildings. The SMS platform shelter is a lovely kit - I recently put one together and I have to say it was such a simple but rewarding process. Did you use the provided 'felt roof', or make your own? I look forward to seeing how this progresses. You never know, I might even make it down to SWAG...
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted December 18, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 18, 2021 Yes, only 2 points laid so far, and the next two will be fun trying to get the track jointed and the wire-in-tube in place too. I have an old GEM lever frame to use, still debating whether to run each pair of cross-over points off one lever or not. As yet the shelter is roofless. I might use some masking tape on card, to give more of a textured finish. Hopefully you can get to Taunton in April, @NHY 581 Sheepbloke has put together an excellent line up.
RMweb Gold SouthernRegionSteam Posted December 18, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 18, 2021 That's a good shout with the masking tape. I used tissue paper on mine which seemed to work well, but you do have be careful when applying watered-down PVA to stick it on, as the provided card base obviously turns into a banana. Easily bent back, though. I will absolutely try my best to come down to Taunton, but I believe Narrow Gauge South is the day before where I am due to take Sandy Shores. On top of that, we have our village steam show that weekend. No exhibitions for two years and suddenly there are three on the same weekend - typical! I have seen the line up, and it is mighty impressive, as always. SWAG is quite possibly the friendliest exhibition you can hope to attend! 2

RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted December 29, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 29, 2021 In place of the yellow shop front above, I'll be adding a low relief shop to act as a view blocker for the track exit. This is a tweaked SMS LX464 kit - I've set the main door back about 6mm.

RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted December 29, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 29, 2021 It would appear a WHR loco has been acquired, purely for clearance/gauging issues. It has not been in steam, as yet, something to do with incomplete trackwork and track-circuit wiring challenges.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted December 30, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 30, 2021 Track laying is complete, wiring next ( a total of 4 connections needed). 6

RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted January 5, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 5, 2022 Thanks Marc. Hopefully the castle wall backscene will be what makes it different. Justin at ScaleModelScenery is developing some bendy mdf to make the turrets.
