I have to ask the question...................since the only logical place for it is stuffed in a corner, is there a reason why you scribed in the bufferbeam and drilled holes for buffers on the 'blank end'?!

I await your convincing explanation with interest!😉😀

Here's a couple of mine (in rather slow progress!

These are both Graham Farish from a long time back, I bought them second hand maybe 50 years ago.

farish.jpg.85b060ec1292760462bf7ceba7eff883.jpg

The brake gear on the Longer wheelbase brake van is different to the shorter open.

They are not the same as yours but very similar.

The bodies are rather crisply moulded, although lacking some detail.

I'm similarly attacking a couple of older Farish 4mm LMS mineral wagons and a Knorr LNER van, although to be honest there's only the body left!

As they've only been on the go for about 50 years when there wasn't much available as an option I think I'll persevere!

Thanks for the explanation above the photo. I was flicking though the posts and did briefly wonder why you'd put a slice of white bread in a wagon.

Must go, my appointment at SpecSavers is due...

In all seriousness, that's some lovely restoration work you've done there.

The actual reason was that I was thinking of detailing up the “blank” sides to match the white metal ones, only I changed my mind after drilling and scribing the buffer beam.

Absolutely brilliant! Please don't misunderstand, I've never doubted your modelling ability Darius, that's why I avidly follow your threads, it's my kind of modelling (well, not Indian railways admittedly, but I can appreciate the work which goes into any model regardless of subject) and it's nice to watch old models getting a makeover and a new lease of life.

Oh, OK, I can accept that as a convincing reason! That would have been a tall order and maybe the time this would have taken is better used elsewhere?

Having said that you'd most likely have had it finished by teatime anyway😁

Excellent result. Quite right about old etched brass fret, endlessly useful for

pick-ups, lamp brackets, door bangers, reinstating hinged gangway doors on early-style Bachmann Class 25s, EE etched roof fan grilles supports etc - I've never knowingly thrown any away so I have a selection of widths to suit every need!

Two of the remaining few bits in the box were these cable drums.  I built a “timber” support cradle using cardboard and fine chain to create a wagon load.

Just found my photo of D1070 Western Gauntlet at Wootton Bassett Junction 24th April 1975 with a recently repainted 'COAL 16 VB' mineral wagon B575343......yes OK, it could still have been 'extremely unusual', but it did happen:

Agreed - I was referring to the 'pre-boxed markings' era; all sorts of things happened thereafter.
