RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted September 4, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 4, 2022 Last two wagons completed. Inevitably there’s some bits left over… Any suggestions? Cheers Darius

BernardTPM
Grounded van body in a corner with the invisible sides from plasticard, perhaps with some brambles or bushes as well? I think that may be the old K's LNER van kit. Edited September 4, 2022 by BernardTPM 1

RMweb Gold Robert Shrives Posted September 5, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 5, 2022 Good sharp modelling as ever, this of course means the missing parts will be found in another box -so you will get two grounded vans! Along time ago I helped wire up such a body and later helped scrap it after if rotted and got in the way for another project.

I await your convincing explanation with interest!😉😀

RMweb Premium melmerby Posted September 5, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 5, 2022 Here's a couple of mine (in rather slow progress! These are both Graham Farish from a long time back, I bought them second hand maybe 50 years ago. The brake gear on the Longer wheelbase brake van is different to the shorter open. They are not the same as yours but very similar. The bodies are rather crisply moulded, although lacking some detail.

I'm similarly attacking a couple of older Farish 4mm LMS mineral wagons and a Knorr LNER van, although to be honest there's only the body left! As they've only been on the go for about 50 years when there wasn't much available as an option I think I'll persevere! Mike.

Thanks for the explanation above the photo. I was flicking though the posts and did briefly wonder why you'd put a slice of white bread in a wagon. Must go, my appointment at SpecSavers is due... In all seriousness, that's some lovely restoration work you've done there. 2

Please don't misunderstand, I've never doubted your modelling ability Darius, that's why I avidly follow your threads, it's my kind of modelling (well, not Indian railways admittedly, but I can appreciate the work which goes into any model regardless of subject) and it's nice to watch old models getting a makeover and a new lease of life. 1 minute ago, Darius43 said: The actual reason was that I was thinking of detailing up the “blank” sides to match the white metal ones, only I changed my mind after drilling and scribing the buffer beam. Cheers Darius Oh, OK, I can accept that as a convincing reason! That would have been a tall order and maybe the time this would have taken is better used elsewhere? Having said that you'd most likely have had it finished by teatime anyway😁

Quite right about old etched brass fret, endlessly useful for pick-ups, lamp brackets, door bangers, reinstating hinged gangway doors on early-style Bachmann Class 25s, EE etched roof fan grilles supports etc - I've never knowingly thrown any away so I have a selection of widths to suit every need!

RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted September 13, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 13, 2022 (edited) Two of the remaining few bits in the box were these cable drums. I built a “timber” support cradle using cardboard and fine chain to create a wagon load. And installed in a wagon (Parkside Kit).
