RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 20, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 20, 2020 The driver of the latest Ivatt 4 to appear has stopped under the roof. Whether that was allowed or not, I don't know, but it did make for an unusual and quite nice photo opportunity. we have another northbound arrival next, the 1040 KX-Grantham, 60039 on duty. It will rest for some time at Platform 6. The Ivatt didn't get to dwell long under the roof, and has been hastened of to the carriage sidings, so as not to delay the regal progress of the Yorkshire Pullman.

RMweb Premium great northern Posted April 20, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 20, 2020 (edited) We have an update on the North Lincolnshire neo Nazi story. A young reporter at the Lincolnshire Echo newspaper decided to do a bit of investigation himself. First he checked the phone book, and found that Mr "Hilter", is in fact a Mr Hillier a retired judge and very well known locally. Mrs Miggins, it turns out, has lived in Sloppily, or whatever it is called locally, all her life. She does have a bit of a moustache, but that doesn't make her a Nazi. As to the lady in boots, she is a very keen ornithologist, and was pointing out interesting birds to Mrs Miggins as they waited for their train. She is also very well known locally, and while there are some rumours as to what she might get up to while dressed in boots, she is attested by local gentlemen who do not wish to be named to be very definitely female. And everbody knows that Hitler and Himmler, plus Eva Braun and other prominent Nazis now live on Mars, having got there in a spaceship designed for them by that nice Mr Von Braun. I think Shergar may be up there as well. We now await the retraction and apology from the Sunday Graphic, but I wouldn't hold your breath. RMweb Premium Bogie Posted April 20, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 20, 2020 I am so glad that has been cleared up - especially the moustache point! God bless the Lincolnshire Echo. I am also pleased to see that the tree behind the Signal Box in photo #2 has been corrected. If only life overall could be returned to normal! I'm still experimenting with the trees. They should really be quite a distance further away, but they do show up as a backdrop from some angles. Getting them further away though leaves them suspended on thin air where they won't stay put for long. Thinking cap will remain on.

It seems that according to the Graphics editor Phil Space the it was all the fault of his elderly senior reporter Dermod O'Dreary who in his hurry to get down the pub hit the wrong keys on his ancient typewriter and got mixed up with the National Bocialist candidate for the North Minehead by-election, Mr A Hilter and his assistants, a Mr Bimmler and Ron Vibbentrop, who as Mr Hilter clearly says here were intending to hike to Peterborough after the election ; https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=youtube+monty+python+north+minehead+by+election&docid=608033855406606269&mid=127407BC05150616CBD0127407BC05150616CBD0&view=detail&FORM=VIRE 1 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 20, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 20, 2020 Those wot have been paying attention will remember that all three Pullman services appear within a very short time span around now. The last one to appear is the Queen of Scots, and Abbotsford is the Copley Hill A1 today. first car is a precursor of tilting trains. Otherwise this works well in black and white. Tilting appears to have ceased now. That is the end of photos from eight days ago. I'm not catching up at all.
westerner
Unfortunately Gilbert the head on shot shows up the tight radius which the three-quarter stern shot doesn't. That might look good in Black and white.

It needs to be a bit further back, where the effect of the curve isn't so severe. Very prototypical you know, sharp curves at PN. It's just there are a few additional ones here and there. RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 21, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 21, 2020 Lunchtime departures this morning. Regular B1 61282 is off to London with the 1.12pm stopper. I do wish I hadn't glued that porter down so well. 60039 is also on its way to complete its leisurely journey to Grantham. We shall ignore the fact that some idiot signalman pulled off the wrong one. Yet another lovely day here by the way. It is getting too common place to be worthy of mention. 24
CUTLER2579
Gilbert, I know you use DCC for your motive power, but are your points controlled by DCC or that much nicer normal DC. If it's DCC (Damn Clever CR** ) I will vacate, but if its Simple Old Analogue all it needs is the switch controlling the point on the Up Main to also throw the Double Slip to the Bay position for both the Siding and Loco Release Road as I am sure you know anyway without some young whipper snap of a lad of 73 telling you. (74 in December if he makes it.) Kind Regards,Derek

Once I had worked out what its individual call up number is, all became simple. 'Tis done. 3 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 21, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 21, 2020 Anyway, with our cup of tea this morning we shall view some more experiments, as we watch the B1 on its way from angles we have rarely, if ever, seen before. The severity of the curve is a problem again, of course, and if I'm going to persist with the last two I will need to extend the ballasting, but what do you think, is it worth doing at all? The first one I do like, and I shall carry on using that angle occasionally.
JeffP
I like all three. Can I make some suggestions? In the first one, would there not be some sort of railing to stop folk walking straight out in front of an oncoming train? Similar to the ones you used to see outside school entrances? Second one is imposing, but the tightness of the curve does make us focus on the swing of the bogie, which isn't prototypical. The third one is superb, even given the tight curves. The closed in feeling of a real railway is apparent, but yes, ballast.

Morning Gilbert Large match sticks make great fence posts just about the right size in 4mm scale and the wooden coffee stirrers cut down make ideal fence panels all fixed together with PVA glue. Yet another lovely day here by the way. It is getting too common place to be worthy of mention. Good afternoon Gilbert, Some impressive recent pictures....... However...... 'I do wish I hadn't glued that porter down so well.' I do wish you'd used some of the glue to fix the top piece of the vacuum standpipe on the buffer beam of the B1. The camera again.... I've mentioned before, but it's 'missing' pieces on locos which spoil a few of your (otherwise excellent) shots. In one of the recent A1 pictures, I could live with the tight radius, but not the loco's missing front steps, the missing front shackle, the bent vacuum standpipe - oh, and the leaning Pullman. When this isolation is all over, as promised, I'll pop over, we'll search for all the missing bits, and I'll fix them back on! Regards, Tony. 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted April 21, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 21, 2020 (edited) I've been talking rubbish again. There is a fence at the end of the cul de sac here. That is needed because there is public access down there. However, the through the gap pictures are taken between the back of the building on the left in the above image, and the tranship shed. That area cannot be accessed by the public, and so is not fenced off. I wish I could show you a photo, but in every one I have found of the area, there is a train in front of it! The area in the image is unfinished by the way. The wonky wall on the right is temporary.
