RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 6, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 6, 2016 Everything now prepared for the photoshoot, so I have time to post a couple more images. You won't be surprised that I'm concentrating on the North end now that I have the correct bridge and can really try to get some more satisfactory views. Thus, we have two more shots of 60120, the first one really a locomotive portrait. The second one though is more what I'm after. I haven't spent a lot of time cleaning up the signals, so they leave a bit to be desired, but in general terms this does look quite like a lot of the prototype images I have seen.
RMweb Premium Richard E Posted May 6, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 6, 2016 (edited) I must admit, I drive past it regularly and couldn't recall where it actually went. I have it in mind that it was the way to Baker Perkins (I played for Westwood 2nds and 3rds in the days at the old field, behind the Halcyon pub, but I might be wrong about that) My good wife informs me that there IS a through route to Thorpe Wood, but no one in their right mind would take it.. Mayors Walk/Thorpe Park Road runs from Spital Bridge (which carries Mayors Walk over the railway) to Thorpe Hall and thence to Longthorpe. The Bourges Boulevard end of Mayors Walk is accessed past the Volunteer Fire Station. The access to Baker Perkins is/was the next road north turning off Bourges Boulevard by ToysRUs (Westfield Road, opposite Taverners Road) and runs past Lidl on the left and the old Baker Perkins apprentice school and the Halcyon on the right if travelling west from the railway line. rockershovel
Ah, got it. So, Westfield Road would be the bridge visible beyond Spital Bridge, in the photo in post #11051?
RMweb Premium Richard E Posted May 6, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 6, 2016 Yup, quite correct. It again is quite narrow but does have a bus route along it. The footpath and a cyclepath are carried on a separate footbridge against the north side of the road bridge.
stewartingram
I have a feeling there was a bus route over that bridge. The Eastern Counties website lists all route numbers, though not in detail, I'm sure I saw one on there when I was researching bus routes for the bus in the station frontage on one of the much earlier photos. Stewart edit: I can't look at the moment as I'm at work, but will try to next week. .
RMweb Premium great northern Posted May 6, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 6, 2016 Time for another photo. This time we have, following on behind the Queen of Scots, the eveniing fish Class C from Hull. As always the loco is a Top Shed B1, and again in immaculate condition, as they were always turned out for this duty.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted May 6, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 6, 2016 To end the day, we shall look at the other side of 61200. And maybe we shall also curse a little, in a refined and genteel manner, as Paint.Net has sneakily removed part of its cab roof. Goodnight all.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 7, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 7, 2016 I am now going to make a factual observation about the next image. This is where it just isn't possible to recreate the prototype. The B1 looks as though it is coming through one of the Midland arches, rather than under the main girder part. Can't be helped though, and I'm still happy that the new bridge is a great improvement. I think I shall avoid this angle in future though, as it does create other problems, notably three lattice posts each on top of the other, which I suppose might be possible to photoshop perfectly if I was prepared to spend a whole day doing it. I remember that at Retford back in the 50s the station pilot B1 used to go off once day with two milk churns on the front buffer beam. They contained drinking water for outlying signal boxes. Mine looks as though it may be doing the same, but alas it is supposed to be a Class C code. Please tell me repeatedly to get rid of these horrible lamps. Please also tell me that it would be very stupid to acquire another Top Shed B1 just so that I don't always have to run the same engine on this train. To conclude, we will have a proper picture. Except we won't because for some reason it has come out very small. Anyway, another immaculate Top shed engine, 60800 herself, with a KX goods- Dringhouses Class C.

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted May 7, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 7, 2016 The photo has gone as small as that because you have gone under 300kb at 288kb. I have just checked out your earlier photos, on this page, and the smallest of those comes out at 350kb. The difference, although fairly small, does make a big difference when the photo is posted. I have been caught out in this way myself in my East Yorkshire Railways thread. With warmest regards, Rob.

Sorry my mistake. I've had a look at the ECOC website,( http://easterncountiesomnibusco.com/ecocroutes.html ) nearest I can find is the 306, Westfield Road to Dogsthorpe, though what route it took I have no idea! Might be possible to include a coach though, could be going to pick up a load of schoolkids of out somewhere? Stewart
RMweb Premium great northern Posted May 7, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 7, 2016 I suspect I am somewhat over golfed, and therefore doing very little, so just one more shot for today. Green Arrow swinging off the curve, with a wider angle now possible as the bridge finishes thing off. The stock in Platform 6 comes out quite nicely too.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 8, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 8, 2016 Good morning all, and a beautiful one it is. I seem to have taken a lot of pictures of Green Arrow, so here are a couple more. One of these "looming" shots, which convey the power and bulk of the steam locomotive, though this one perhaps overdoes it a bit. And a shot I return to now and again, as I rather like it. Actually, it might be good as the introductory image for a magazine article. I will try to remember that. and a look at what is behind the locomotive. Vans, highs and conflats. But behind those, empty pipes and tubes, which I suspect would be taken off at Doncaster.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 8, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 8, 2016 I say chaps, what do you think of this? Another of those which is right as a record shot of the layout, but wrong for the real thing. And where is the "noise" that I thought I had added to it?
stewartingram
Ah yes, Stewart, but then I've got to research the right kind of coach. Simples - almost anything? I was thinking maybe an EC one that has been done by EFE in the past (many liveries but easy repaint or transfers), or the new Barton one from Oxford. Barton ran services into Peterborough, so we are talking the edge of their operating area? And it is a nice model.... Stewart
stewartingram
Sadly, I was referring to this one. However, upon investigation, I found that although new in 1955, it was not acquired by Barton until 1961. ehattons.com/130169/Oxford_Diecast_76WFA004_Weymann_Fanfare_AEC_Bartons?StockDetail.aspx Or try these on ebay (minor transfer changes needed to be pedantic):- item no.301803595457 & 231912025433 & 172167761282. RMweb Premium great northern Posted May 8, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 8, 2016 Three BSO's! I'm afraid so David. It isn't the only formation with three of them either, though I confess that for the time being a few BSKs have to act as stand ins on most of my trains. RMweb Premium great northern Posted May 9, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 9, 2016 A couple more images this bright fine morning, before I go and look closely at the Spital Bridge area, and attempt to decide what, if anything, needs to be done about it. 60050 is seen leaving for the North. And then the 5.30pm from Kings Lynn comes in to end its journey. It is an M&GN service, despte starting from a GE station, and so of course an Ivatt 4 is in charge.
