RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted November 8, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 8, 2010 Anyone who had a programme ? Its buggin' me and it looks like no one photographed it either. I definitely didn't Kenton, sorry - it was just far too crowded in that area every time I went near it and I wonder if that put off other folk? Incidentally talking of that part of the exhibition the Hornby Magazine stand had the Stove R on show and in 'yes you can pick it up as long as you're careful please' mode. Very impressive piece of work although the wheels do look small and there definitely is no room to get in any larger ones without replacing the whole assembly (which is what many will no doubt do). But looking down on it you don't notice that and you do see a pretty attractive body moulding - rather nice in fact. They are hopeful of getting some by the time of the Warley show but the very helpful lady on the stand made it clear that none will go on wider sale until all the pre-orders have been dealt with - an excellent trading policy in my view. The timescales all sounded rather tight to me so don't hold your breath for a Warley release.
RMweb Gold RedgateModels Posted November 8, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 8, 2010 Only just had chance to do a full report from Friday/Saturday. Bit of a wet drive down to High Wycombe (isn't it always), got to the digs about 4:30pm and pottered over to the venue by about 5:30. The school was running a little late, understandably in the circumstances so we all took our time chatting until we could get access. Once the doors were opened I helped Mike Wild get Bay Street II unloaded and then once The good Captain and his crew had finished dining I assisted in the unloading and setting up of Bleakhouse Road. Is this the first Caption Competition photo? Saturday dawned with me feeling pretty poorly (odd as I ate and drank the same as everyone on Friday evening) so I passed on the full english (that's me drummed out of the Cornish Narrow Gauge Operators Association ) and went straight to the venue to meet Chris just having unloaded Combwich. Once it was up on it's legs I left Chris to tinker and had a walk round. Really enjoyed the whole day, I'm sure I'm not alone in thanking the club for it's wonderful hospitality. Big thanks to Chris for letting me play with his trainset for the day - the 3-links were a bit of a baptism of fire but I kinda got the hang of them by the end Shopping went well, came away with the bits I need to add the extra stub siding on Summat Colliery and also bought some 7mm PCB sleeper for the "next" project Great to meet up with so many RMwebbers, I popped away from Combwich for 5 mins and came back nearly an hour later after standing and chatting in front of Keyhaven for far too long (fantastic bit of modelling there Missy, hope the decoder fits ...) Got home in time for Merlin and a curry Can't wait for next year
s182ggu
Glad you enjoyed yourself, Ian. Isn't it amazing how many photos you can get yourself in just by persuading Mr Nevard to let you spend a day playing with one of his creations!!?!

Kenton
Nugatory Basin? Thanks John Nugatory Basin Excellent. I should really stop admiring inspirational layouts in new scale/gauge combinations. I really felt a bit sorry for the operator as the layout location really seemed to be a bit of an afterthought and I would have missed it entirely if I hadn't been purchasing from Geoff. Not being a Hornby "trade" stand fan I would have passed that area by as the crowds heaved.

Had a full sized collie cross sitting in my shirt pocket all night! I know the feeling - one of our GSDs becomes a very un-becoming nervous wreck whilst the other just snaps and snarls and shows decidedly unfriendly tendencies to anyone and anything withing bite range. If I had my way I'd ban fireworks altogether Caption: "I still think there are too many rivets on that bloater"

Mighty
A little late in the day with these photos, but hopefully they may be of interest still. I'd like to say a personal thank you to the organisers - once again, one of the best exhibitions in the South East, with a nice mix of very high quality layouts and traders, with some excellent refreshments. I hope these photos may provide a little inspiration, as they have done to me. KingsCrossSuburban
At last I’ve managed to find some time to add my two penn’orth. I would like to thank the organisers and exhibitors for a putting on a cracking show. Although I was only able to stay for 1-2 hours, I really enjoyed it and could quite easily have stayed all day. This was my third visit to Wycrail and I think it was probably the best. It was certainly the busiest – almost like a mini-Warley. I even had to queue to get into the sports hall at one point!! But hopefully the attendance is a reflection of the health of the hobby. Due to lack of time and the crowds, I wasn’t able to see all of the layouts properly and didn’t get round to any of the trade stands. But the layouts I was able to see were all superb and ran very well without any unexpected stops, jerky running, spontaneous uncoupling or the need for prodding fingers. Combwich and Bleakhouse Road were every bit as good as the photos I’d seen suggested they would be. As I am partial to a good suburban railway, I really liked Stoney Lane Depot, which ran faultlessly – so much better than might have been the case several years ago with N gauge layouts. It was also nice to see some good 3mm scale layouts. But, being someone who would not have much space for a layout even if he had time to build one, my favourites of the day were Nugatory Basin and Keyhaven Quay. It’s amazing what can be achieved in a small space with a bit of thought and ingenuity. I could have watched the smooth, hands-off operation of Nugatory Basin for hours!! It was also nice to meet Andy Y as well, although, thinking about it, I don’t think I introduced myself!! I managed to take a few snaps, where I could. Here is a selection. Ian. RMweb Gold Graham_Muz Posted November 17, 2010 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 17, 2010 As the Chairman of the HW&DMRS I would like to thank all those RMweb members who came along to the show either as visitors, traders or exhibitors to make the show such a success. I also thank those who have taken time to post comments and some excellent pictures on this thread, such feedback is always welcome and helps us continue to imporve the show. I am also pleased to say that the news about the condition of the school caretaker is very encouraging, having undergone a number of sucessful skin grafts , he is now out of the induced coma and although sedated for much of the time, the prognosis looks positive. He will shortly, we hope, be moved from the ICU to the Burns unit. His recovery wil however be a long one and we all wish him the very best. I also would like to thank Dave Fryrer, our exhibiution manager and his team for once again putting on such a good show with an incredibly high standard or exhibitis. I am really pleased I was not involved in the task of judging the best layout in show such was the quality although Stoney Lane Depot was a deserved winner. It is often easy to forget when seeing pictures of SLD on here that is indeed N Gauge! We accept that the exhibition was slightly crowded at times, a victim of our own success perhaps, I thank those visitors that showed patience in viewing layouts etc. This year we introduced a new entrance point at the sports hall to try and speed up the entry to the show and spread the intiial volume thorugh the halls. This certainly made a difference and one we shall continue doing. We already have an overflow car park in place and this itself was also full by 11am. As we already operate a free bus service from the town centre to the show we are looking at possible alternative routes via additional parking areas for next year. We look forward to welcoming you to next years show on Saturday 5th November 2011
10800
Encouraging news of the caretaker, Graham Sorry I couldn't have made the show, it looks excellent - intrigued by the oast house in the snow, with the bare hop bines opposite!
