RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted March 31, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 31, 2019 Good morning everyone The sun is shining and the sky is blue. This morning I treated Sheila to breakfast in bed, it would have been better in a bowl, but hey ho. She’s now opened all her cards and presents and I have been told informed that I can bu99er off go to the workshop. Well, I mean, I don’t need telling twice! back later.

RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted March 31, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 31, 2019 Morning all. Clocks have been adjusted. Body-clock and cat-clock have failed to adjust thus far. Both suggested it was time to arise and prepare breakfast at stupid o'clock with Dawn breaking. Dawn may break all she likes but Sunday does not normally require me to be vertical and en-kitchened until at least 8.30am. Those of us with the persistent cough - which still includes myself - might reasonably be wondering why it is neither going away nor capable of being treated by medical science. Mine, acquired on Christmas Eve, rears its ugly head in places where the oxygen content might be slightly lower than average. So far it has troubled me every Friday when meeting SWMBO for drinks (same pub, similar numbers of people) and did so again last night in the restaurant as soon as we were seated. It eases after a few minutes though remains as a nagging sensation and a slight shortness of breath though I no longer have any of the pain I once did. The doctor suggests it may take a long time yet to finally run its course but there is nothing requiring treatment. I still have the inhaler to ease any moments when I feel I cannot bget a breath in for coughing. SWMBO has slept through until an hour ago and is only slowly surfacing after last night but reports much less pain and just the sensation of after-pain which she has described before. It doesn't hurt but she can feel that it has ben hurting. If that makes sense. So I suspect today will be a slow one. There is a leg of something to sacrifice later and uniform to be ironed. There is an agenda and committee minutes to be prepared and sent to those who require them. And there is that bag of switches which came from Allypally last week which lurks awaiting my attention with the smouldering iron. Messages have been exchanged with sister and cousins as we are all feeling the loss of our mothers today - both sisters passed away within four months of each other after an innings of 90-odd years. Best wishes to all. I might trouble these quarters again later. 4
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted March 31, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 31, 2019 Morning. Sunny and pleasant here, Mrs NHN out advanceding her motoring, me doing a bit of the G word, dead-heading daffs and the camillia. I am also the keeper of the cough, week 6 currently of the lurgy, although the cough is only in week 3 really. It feels to be sinus related, there's some old nuts and bolts up there that if ejected would make me feel better, but it's going no-where. Coughing has made my throat sore though. #sigh# Then we'll try to find somewhere for lunch not invaded by those still with mothers to pamper. 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted March 31, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 31, 2019 Morning all, Clock resetting is a task for the management and well beyond my pay grade although I might do the car - which I only recently reset when it came back from the garage which means I might remember how to do it, possibly. in the meanwhile the usual aftermath of laying bricks at ground level has struck but I'm already booked for the chiropractor on Wednesday so might wait until then for the various 'resets' to be administered. Weather somewhat drearier today but no rain promised by the seaweed wranglers of Exeter - proof of the pudding might not lie in their seaweed judging by the skies. the lad will today return from the north east and the Good Doctor seems sufficiently rested from her swim yesterday to have set off for some local horse trials - but as a spectator, she will not be on the jury nor will she be representing the RDA who might possibly be there. One piece of possible amusement from last night - a photographer was going round taking pics of all present so after 71 years I might progress from the hatched and matched entries, via the 'Dear Editor' letters column, to the social pages of the local rag, wow Have a good day one and all. And once muggatea four has been consumed I shall no doubt be venturing to Tesco for the 'papers.

RMweb Premium TheQ Posted March 31, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 31, 2019 Afternoon Awl, Take a 77inch by 48inch piece of plywood, Drill six holes, two each end, two in the middle. Turn over assembly, Measure 1ft in each end place transom on marks Screw on transoms Time taken 1.5hours. Stand door in doorway on 1/4 inch spacers. mark up hinges Fit hinges adjust frame because it is tilted, by 1.5inches top to bottom, frame follows tilt of brickwork! Attach hinges Another 1.5 hours gone. Start attaching beams 2*2inch recovered from mobile home rebuild, for work bench. yet again walls not straight, adjustments made. Top level of workbench fitted. Another 2hours gone. Legs at front to be fitted, lower shelves to be fitted. Shelf above window to be fitted along with reinforcement to that cross beam. While sitting having a Muggacoffee realise what happened to the garage, the two sides and back are expertly built. The roof rear 4/5ths is expertly built. At some point some converted this car port to a garage by bodging on a front wall, at the sides and inexpertly extended the roof to reach.. Long soak in the bath had, along with some eyelid inspection, I can hear the fryer doing its stuff, dinner expected. 15 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted March 31, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 31, 2019 Evening. A busy day today round at Mums. brother form Devon is up for the weekend and has brought his breaker so the sunken garden slabs and walls are in pieces along with many of the old garden ornaments that were well past their useful life so the sunken garden is no more and now ready for a layer of sand before topsoiling to become an extended lawn. The hand operated water pump feature in the driveway is now out of the ground and lying near to mums drive entrance hoping the local metal collectors see it one night and take it away. Back home the last fence panel has been treated and tomorrow I may swap it with the old panel. I bit more of the pond has also been filled in. Now time for some more decals on the FEC loco. Its great to have longer daylight evenings again.
tigerburnie
Not a bad day at all, even managed a quite flat near 6 mile cycle ride, but before you start thinking of me as the next Chris Hoy, I should fess up and say we have electric bikes, so I can wind up the assist if required lol. Little bit of the "G" word, mostly prep work, but some early carrot seeds have been sown, being coastal our soil seems to be good for growing carrots, not much else like, but carrots, I'd make a good Bugs Bunny look a like. 16
RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted March 31, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 31, 2019 I seem to be destined for the Farther North reaches of these isles. I have just booked myself a farewell trip aboard the Royal Highlander, Kings Cross to Inverness by HST, in the expectation that I shall not have that opportunity again (neither have I had it before) due to the withdrawal of those illustrious machines. With one night in a city hotel I then return the next night aboard the Caledonian Sleeper which will also be a fare-ye-well to the Anglo-Scottish Mk3 cars or possibly a welcome to the Mk5 variety though the booking suggests Mk3 stock will still be in use. And for the day between? It will depend upon weather as much as anything but unless that is dire the plan is a round trip to Kyle of Lochalsh. I could do the Far North but timings are a little tight and it requires an early start. Kyle is prettier and, for the performance addicts, harder work too. I have already been to both Wick and Thurso probably a half-dozen times apiece. Including once by cycle on my John O'Groats - Land's End ride. That's enough excitement for one night. The fixed sleeping-car beckons. See you on Moan-day. G'night all. 17

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted March 31, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 31, 2019 Good evening everyone Despite spending most of the day in the workshop, I didn’t do any modelling at all. Instead I went through my electrical bits and pieces, mainly sorting out and cleaning up switches and sockets. It was also a sort of stock check to see if I had all that I need for the cellar modifications. After going thorough several boxes, all I need to buy is one 1-gang 2-way switch and depending upon my final design plan for the larger room, one or two double sockets, it’ll probably be 2 as you can never have too many sockets! I also checked my cable stocks and I’ll need to get more cable for both the sockets and lights. I plan to put in 6 LED down-lighters in the small (office) room and 14 of the same in the larger (railway) room and I know that this will use up a lot more cable than I’ve got in stock. I’ve not yet got the light fittings yet, but I’m hoping to get the same ones that Ian got for his cellar as I was very impressed with those, despite them being a little fiddly to fit. Goodnight all
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted March 31, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 31, 2019 Had a very pleasant day out with SWMBO first of all at the national waterways museum at Ellesmere Port where we also had a picnic, then at the Lady Lever art gallery at Port Sunlight where we attended a most enjoyable concert. Back home this evening for bacon & eggs and not a single medical, family or other issue to cloud the day. Terrific! Time for bed as Zebedee says. Goodnight everyone and may you have a peaceful and restful night. Dave 19
pH
We have a very nice little stream flowing down the street in front of the house. It started to run a couple of days ago, and has grown since. It springs out of the ground between the front yards of houses two and three up the street from us. It's beyond the city stopcocks for those houses, so it's the responsibilty of the house owners. One of them has done some excavating, but nothing's happened beyond that yet. A couple of blocks away, there's another leak. This one is bubbling out of the road surface, so that's the city's responsibility. There were cones round it last night when I drove past, but my wife says there was nothing marking it this afternoon. This is surprising. It's not uncommon in colder parts of the country to get water leaks when the ground thaws in the spring. But this isn't a cold part of the country, and the past winter, while snowy, wasn't even particularly cold for here. 3 4
chrisf
Good morning one and all I spoke too soon yesterday. The cough reappeared mid morning and tickled spasmodically for the rest of the day. This morning it is still making its presence felt. I shall try to forget all about it – fat chance of that! – for I am fed up with it. Gentle reader, I suspect that you are too. Other things come along to cause irritation. On Tuesday I made a pledge to Exeter Pride to help fund the event, though you would not think so to look at the roll of honour, from which my name is conspicuously absent. What did happen was that the system asked me what size hoodie I take as part of my reward for making a donation! Of the credit card payment I made there is no trace. I don’t envy whoever’s job it is to find it – asking Crowdfunder would be a good start, methinks - but if someone gave me £25 I would be a bit more careful with it! It’s not all bad. I enjoyed my slab of sirloin and greatly enjoyed the concert by Sam Carter in Northampton. Today I might sort out the errant pot of superglue, which probably means buying a new one as the almost full old one sloshes around contentedly. Best wishes to all Chris 6
Robert
Morning All, I am back in the office after a quiet weekend. The temperature is around 5°C, and it is reasonably clear. There isn't a lot else to report, so I guess it's time for a coffee! Have a good day everyone...
