Mooring part 2.

I did obtain more sleep,  though after a long struggle to find a comfortable position. 

Ben the alarm clock Collie stopped at the car again,  he really would like to go out on a trip somewhere. 

 

We've had some rain,  not enough to make puddles, but the ground is very recently wet. 

 

A forecast of 19C and sunny today,  tomorrow,  the forecast of a peak of 11C is at 07:00 steadily decreasing to 6C by 15:00 with rain and 40 mph gusts. 

 

Banana in the porridge this morning.  To be followed by pink pills and a Muggacoffee.

Ey up!

Binmen have emptied the bins on the other side of the road. For elfansafety reasons they empty hours on Monday. The new machine they are using has a rotary compactor in it..it makes a lot of noise. Pah!

 

Today is a bit more gardening while it is still warm.then..apparently..the day is mine. Wooooppppiiiiddddoooo!

Morning awl,

 

Yesterday started successfully. Two of the surplus items from the job lot sold, so have been packed up and are ready for collection at some point today.

 

The good start was slightly tempered by the news that Luton Borough Council had failed in their attempt to gain a judicial review of Central Bedfordshire Council's decision to build the M1-A6 link road. It's controversial to say the least, with numerous objections and very narrow votes. The road will pass just half a mile north of me and will ultimately lead to infill with housing and "business premises". My long term plan to move away has therefore moved into a new phase. Apart from the loss of countryside and ancient woodland, it will also have the affect of marooning the local hospice, which is currently surrounded by open fields.

 

There was some street party activity yesterday although I didn't partake, in part due to the sun being at the back rather than the front of my house at 4pm. This didn't stop others though. When I stepped out later for what turned out to be a Hancock's Half Hour, my road was completely blocked in one direction by a large group who clearly weren't social distancing and definitely weren't from the same household. Forced to go in the other direction, I passed a couple of my neighbours who had somehow joined gatherings further up the road where the amount of social distancing was also negligible.

 

Today will consist of some muddling and prepping the remaining surplus job lot items for sale when the next £1 fees day comes around. It will also be the usual Saturday household chores. It is Saturday isn't it?

Morning and another lovely one it is too.

 

Already been up the shed but back in the house as had breakfast and made tea for other half who is still tucked up in bed.

 

If I never buy another T shirt then I will still have enoguh to last for many decades to come. Only this week I wore one form Astoria Brewery OR for the first time that I bought a few years back. Most of my T shirts are form USA breweries with just handful form the Uk and rest of the world. I still have a T shirt from Joe Bananas bar bought  in Hong kong back in 1990 and it is still in good condition and even more importantly still fits.

 

In the news is big queues for KFC branches that have reopened. Ours isnt on the list. I am not keen on their food apart from a packet of fries if really hungry on the way to our favourite pub back in the 'old days'. However I am craving a Big Mac meal but I can only imagine how much bigger the queues will be for them when they reopen. They were horrendous with cars queued out of the car parks onto the roads on the last day they were open both at Gatwick and at Salfords on the way home on the last day of freedom. It was too dangerous to join the queues so I missed out.

 

Other half was talking with her Mum last night about the pub opposite her Mums. It appears that the pub landlord has moved out. He was doing take out food untill a week or two ago , so looks like hes run out of funds to carry on with the pub.

 

Hopefully track relaying in the garden will conitue this morning.

Morni g all from a rather cloudy but dry, at the moment, place.  Breakfast has been consumed and a shower will be had shortly. Then it's time for a video chat with the Girls. Little Emily,s tedth are growing fast so her face is changing every time we see her.  However her smile just gets better. Not sure what the day will bring but no doubt something will be done. I did manage to get some more shelving put together in the shed yesterdsy. I will attempt to fill the empty shelves and tidy thst corner.  I might even stay in the shed and do some work on small nickel silver castings. I will also continue  to search for a brass casting thst has gone down the black hole.  A walk round the village will no doubt take place at some point.  Not a lot else to tell.

Good morning all,

Sunny and warm here and hopefully it will stay like that.

Lots of people out in the road at 9.00pm singing but we didn't as we were Zooming with the immediate family.  That lasted for 3 hours and Joe had us in stitches most of the time.  We're really proud of him and his attitude to being locked in because of his diabetes.  He's taken it all in his stride, done all the work and more thrown at him by school and kept himself and everyone else cheerful.  Now he's waiting for August to hear whether he'll be given the A level grades he needs for his preferred university.

I must add that Gemma too has amazed us and kept herself busy and cheerful.  She's  waiting for GCSE grades to see whether she can do the A level subjects she wants.  Considering she's 16 next month and won't have the big birthday party that was arranged she's taken it on the chin in a very mature way.  Abbie continues to work all hours from home and is still volunteering to do extra.  She's involved with helping with the repatriation of Brits abroad of which there are still thousands.  She's keeping her cool whilst trying to deal with some very rude people who don't seem to understand that it's not her fault that there are not many flights available.  To be fair there are a lot of others who are grateful for what they're trying to do.

Once again it's Sainsbury's delivery day and the heady excitement of seeing an email shorty detailing what we won't get.

I'm told that my presence in the house is not required for any tasks domestics and I'm free to do as I please.

Hmmm, wonder what I could possibly occupy myself with.

Morning, we have the forecast showers, though it's not cold, a bit of furkling has been done in the greenhouse and a bit more maybe required later. As the nice young man from Dundee(that's two nice lads from Dundee...………...who knew) delivered our Tescos survival pack yesterday SWMBO will no doubt be busy baking bread and cakes, so I might just abscond to The Old Summer House as there's some parallel bits of metal that require attention...……………………………..stay safe all.

Greetings all from the sunny tropical paradise of the boring borough. Up early to prep the bbq for a 12 hour low and slow 5kg brisket. It is now in its 4th hour. 

 

Did a zoom with some former work colleagues on Thursday. Good to see people but I really dislike video conferencing. Get too much of that crap at work. I spend at least 3-4 hours a day on Skype calls. As mentioned before my work laptop had the camera removed for security reasons, so I have a get out clause for the video portion of the calls. I think I’ll pass on other invites. 

 

It is now 12:00 CET so that is a legitimate excuse to have a Belgian or Dutch beer by my reckoning. 

 

Tiggr continues to fade. We’ve made the decision not to torture him with long term fluid injections and weekly vet visits just to get a couple more months of a not very great quality life. We’ll be saying goodbye next week some time. He is comfortable and not suffering at the moment. Still eating and it will be a hard decision on exactly when to........

 

Like Mr Roundhouse I have far too many tee shirts. Many are beer based. A few are railway. 

 

I may get a bit more cleaning and maintenance on the shed. I may end up sitting with a beer or 4 monitoring the bbq. No bets on which is more likely. 

 

Time to run, the glass is empty already. 5l of Swedish IPA in the fridge and it ain’t gonna drink itself.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. I have a T-shirt that says 'Original grumpy old man'. I've lost count of the times ladies have asked me where can they get one because they want one for their partner. Slowly catching up on Farcebook, hopefully theres no rush of new members for the local history group like last weekend. As much as I appreciate the new members its taking up a lot of my time. We were in Roskilde at the ship museum. A man rushed up to Matthew and started talking. He had seen Matthew’s Boston Bruins hockey shirt and thought he was from “home”. They hadn’t spoken to anyone from Boston for “days”. Matthew did explain he had at least bought it (at least chosen it, it was my card purchase!) in Boston. 
A few years later we were in Stockholm and Aditi saw some Swedish hockey shirts on special offer. She phoned Matthew to ask if he would like one. He declined saying that if he wore it everyone would assume he worked in Ikea.

Afternoon awl,  the overnight rain made it very who-mid to work in,  the bricks have all been moved and a voyage of discovery was made in the iron shed. One find was a 25year old gallon of doggy shampoo.. Look out Ben!!!! 

During that the lead melter arrived,  I think I'll try that tomorrow working with something hot might appeal then.

Shortly after this Muggacoffee,  the stuff worth keeping needs a home,  mostly I think in the gardening shed. 

During an earlier Muggacoffee, there were much discussions on garden layout and shed moving, a revised reduced plan has been agreed.. 

 

Pre Ben's long patrol I think it's my duty to get inspect eyelids..

Afternoon All 

Just surfaces as My Babe had to get back home, my brains had been removed several time from my head over the past 3 days as I'm no longer married we

had a bit of a celebration. 

I did look out the window yesterday to see the old folk here celebrating on the back lawn and getting p!ssed on wine, the bottle bin is now full after being emptied Wednesday

the social distancing went out the window 13 of them crammed round a large garden (wine) table all rat-#rsed by 5pm.

My girlfriend said she would like to do a trip on main-line steam having done a Steam Dreams Southend- York trip last year I hope someone is still in business for 

us to make a journey something to look forward to once thing  lockdown is over, the Coach company who I used to journey to many Steam Railways has gone into receivership

what a shame as they had just replaced their coach fleet 12 Supersize 6 wheelers now locked up in their yard there is a business there if someone would take it on as they have 

a county council contract for bussing school children and a very good network of hotels for trips away.

Spose I better get on enjoy the week end Stay Safe. A.Sawdick.

Steam Dreams have only cancelled the first half of their program (up to July) so far. If you want to push the boat out (and if you can afford it) Inside Track run 'steam railway' holidays in the UK and on the continent.

A'noon all, hope all's well whoever / wherever / whatever(!) you are,

 

Been absent from these pages of late so have only had a very brief catch up, mostly due to work carrying on as normal and having been stuck inside Kilsby Tunnel for the best part of a week. There's a blockade in place in the Premier Line's big 'ole in the ground and your 'umble scribe has been one of the dedicated on site drivers for the duration. I exited said big 'ole in the early hours of yesterday not knowing what day it was...! It's very long, very damp and in a bit of a state in places, the limescale clinging to the wall would give some of Elstree's science fiction / horror film set designers a run for their money. I was moving my train along the up fast with the slow speed gubbins set at 1mph, as there was a sheer drop of three feet beyond the sleepers where the down fast had been removed and the trackbed itself had been entirely dug out. Fascinating to see, I doubt I'll ever see it again before I retire and I only wish I had a working camera with me at the time - alas I dropped my trusty fifteen year old Canon recently and it's now kapput. I nice moment occurred midweek though when I was passing beneath the northern most ventilator shaft, looked up from my cabside window to see the brightest of stars twinkling against the silhouette of the vent's outer rim at the top, quite a sight. I'm due back in there tomorrow night and on Tuesday, if i can borrow her indoors' compact camera I'll try to bag some decent pictographs..

 

Mention of the 'Blue Anchor' up thread immediately made me think of the pub of the same name a few yards west of Hammersmith Bridge, scene of many a TV series in the '70s and '80s including 'The Professionals' and 'Minder', the latter of which it also features in the title sequence.
