Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all I spent more of yesterday afternoon than I anticipated setting up my Twitter profile. It was a game of 'hunt the emoji' and I found the one I wanted almost by accident. I suppose the next job is to find some more threads [is that the correct term?] to follow. Such playthings have no place in the serious arena of RMweb but I just thought I would mention it. Today's loosely scheduled fodder run can wait till tomorrow. I will not starve in the meantime. One reason for the postponement is the rediscovery in the fridge of a carton of UHT milk whose designated long life is about to expire. For the life of me I cannot recall when I bought it. The reason for its purchase would have been to allow me to at least have a cuppa and a bowl of cereal on return from a planned absence late at night. How fondly I recall planned absences! The chance would be a fine thing nowadays. Tonight there is another Zoom gathering, taking the place of a meeting, in a church hall, of the Hitchin battalion of the Royal Corps of Train Spotters. It is good that we can attend presentations remotely in this way but sadly there is little opportunity to e-socialise with up to 50 other participants. A certain friend of mine was on Zoom for four hours on Saturday catching up with other friends. I'm trying not to be jealous but I'm failing miserably! One fine day we will all be able to enjoy the outside world and the people in it. Best wishes to all Chris 16

(See my last post) Anyway renewal was for just over £400, slightly up on last year so decided to search a comparison website and got a cheapest quote of over £600. Looks our renewal quote is was a good one but I’m thinking that’s not usually the case. So out of curiosity I searched another comparison site and got a quote of just over £200. I double checked all the information I’d imputed but I’d made no mistake. Can’t understand why there was such a difference Ahhh yes....Insurance Companies..... They make it up with the weather - seemingly the best time to look for a quote is 20-26 days before your insurance is due for renewal as it's cheapest then. Monthly quotas etc etc come into play too, apparently: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/car-insurance/ 7 hours ago, Winslow Boy said: Ah yes but have you got the hat. Other than my trip out I need to do some household fettling and fixing for her indoors. Double Pah! Now time for my mugatea. Stay safe, positive thoughts to all ERs. Anyway will be calling into Aldi on my morning pre-ambertation/wanderings this morning to finish the shopping. Strangely the dog is ambivalent about this which could be because she gets lots of attention whilst I'm absent. The fact that she is female I couldn't possibly comment on. S Trolling. RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted January 12, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 12, 2021 Morning all from Estuary-Land. The rains stopped now but not before it woke up Arthur Itis and the sore foot. Still managed to get a few hours sleep despite those distractions. Will be having a long hot soak in the bath soon, that should keep Arthur and the foot quiet. 2
Popular Post jonny777
Another dull and miserable day in North Somerset, although it is mild with a temperature of 9C; but that means lots of drizzle. The computer forecast is still for lots of the white stuff on 22nd, so I'm glad we are locked down in some respects as it may save lives. Maybe less traffic? I am amazed at the speed the birds are going through the fat balls, and must get outside to top them up. I wonder if the tree rats are responsible some of the rapid disappearance? 17 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted January 12, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 12, 2021 Morning all. It appears to have rained overnight. It is just very overcast now. I don’t think anything particularly exciting is happening unless sorting out the recycling for tomorrow’s collection is exciting. My blood pressure tester is rather old and has started to need a couple of attempts to get a reading so a new one is arriving today. Not sure that is exciting either! RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted January 12, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 12, 2021 Good morning everyone Believe it or not the SUN IS SHINING, I know, I can hardly believe it myself! Mind you, the ground is very wet so I don’t think it’s been long since the rain stopped. Anyway, back to the rest of the day, like yesterday it shall be spent in the cellar scrapping paint of the walls. I’m not enjoying it but it needs to be done. I suppose I could employ somebody else to do it, but then that would make a huge dint the modelling coffers! It also stops me wondering the streets and we are told to stay at home, pity other folk don’t do the same. So, I’d best get on with it then, it won’t do itself. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. Brian 22 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted January 12, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 12, 2021 Morning. Busy morning, which is not the general idea. Had to go to the GP surgery for bloods to be taken at 0830, turns out new locum GP hadn't done all the right things but phlebotomist is on the ball and corrected it, adding in the necessary. Also needed some wee, of course I had just pumped the bilges before going out as it wasn't on the list......pah. Normally I would have taken a quick walk into town, had a brew and a glass of water which should produce sufficient of said liquid, but of course everywhere is closed. So back home, drink lots, jump around, fill sample jar, back to surgery as cut-off time is 1000 for the lab.....an unnecessary round trip. MonkeysAF, bar the military intervention it is no different here. Only returning residents or essential workers allowed in, all of whom, together with any medical returners, have to self isolate and have three tests while doing so. And yes, they check you are where you say you are. Failure to conform results in 4 weeks in the slammer, and several have discovered this. The community spread we have came from someone who had been self isolating and tested negative, so there is a suspicion they had been naughty somewhere along the line. That jetski pillock didn't help matters, apparently he was on TV saying he had applied for permission to come - yes he had, and it was refused! He also said he was coming back, well....no, he is banned from our shores for 5 years now - since he was released from jail and deported. 1

Popular Post The Lurker
15 hours ago, Tony_S said: If the teacher had provided the information on a worksheet perhaps it was an unfortunate cut and paste error. However if it was in a discussion I do wonder too. It was part of a quiz that had been set on the google classroom: which of the following is not determined by genetics: a. eye colour b. height c. accent d. blood group the answer came up as b, whereas in fact predisposition to a certain height is genetically influenced, with actual height also dependent on environmental factors. Younger Lurker had actually discussed that one with me as he was not quite sure. Today, the teacher informed them that they had to do the quiz again as there were "certain issues" with it! I assume he will get 100% this time! In other news, we learned that one of our friends is now in St Thomas' on a ventilator. The rest of her immediate family also have the dreaded disease. She is not having a good time of it; she is in the middle of chemo for cancer, which was discovered during lockdown, her husband lost his job and her Mum, who had been poorly anyway, died - although her husband has not been able to tell her that news yet. Let's hope she pulls through. Mrs Lurker and her colleagues are getting more and more angst ridden about the number of children coming in, and the attitude of the parents who drop them off early, or on days when they are not due to be in, and pick them up late.
RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted January 12, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 12, 2021 Morning all, Startling news - it is not currently raining and the visibility is excellent so the oligarch's palace is more clearly visible that it has been for some while. but not to worry, the rain will return before too long although i don ubt it won't really be good for the garden because it is well sodden. I have a very simple approach with car insurance renewal. I wait a while after the renewal documents have arrived and then 'phone them and say that the renewal csot is far too much so they ask if I've shopped around (I don't bother with that) but just tell them that their quote compares badly with other insurers. So their normal approach is to 'see what they can do' while I try to havea nice friendly discussion about the area whreere they live - dead easy if it's the Cardiff office but it was a bit difficult when I ended up talking to somebody in Nova scor tia or somewhere in that vicinity. They run through various figures, ask a few questions, and give me a new quote - which this far has always been a substantial reduction on their original quote and on a couple of occasions has included a price for one vehicle on the multicar policy which has been lower than it was the previous year. At this point I snatch their hand off and duly recommend the best chippy I know of in Caerphilly (will it was back in the 1970s). And now back to that world of fun which lurks in some corners of RMweb. Have a good day one and all and stay safe. 23 1

Yes distraction pain. Kick hind paw against concrete post. When pain subsides kick the other paw against said post. Repeat until either paws are broken at which point present oneself at nearest vet and ask for painkillers. Alternative places to inflict pain are available but principle remains the same. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted January 12, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 12, 2021 A’ noon all, Unusually for me I’m a late riser today. It rained all night, quite heavily at times but stopped a couple of hours ago. Sun now shining. Made some bread this morning, just waiting for it to come out of oven so looks like lunch will have to wait until it’s cooled down a bit. Have a good one, Bob.
