Popular Post Erichill16
Evening All, Thoughts for those suffering or under the weather. Its a good thing that Mr Hunt senior has Mr Hunt junior looking after his well-being. You have to feel for those in a similar position who don’t have someone looking out for them. Was listening to Radio 5 late this afternoon and in particular to a piece on verbal abuse dished out to GPs receptionists. Couldn’t listen to it so turned it off. I hate going to collect my prescription form up from my local surgery. The receptionist look down their nose at you and only serve you if they can’t find anymore paper clips to sort out. They’ve certainly got a chip on their shoulder. Rant over or I may say something that I shouldn’t. Robert. 1

The new boiler means we have a new control system which we have adjusted to. Call me a Luddite but I had expected it might be the other way around in that the system got used to us but no. The thermostat now means instead of "on" or "off" we set the temperature desired and the heating adapts. Off when that temperature is equalled or exceeded, very slightly on if it needs a little top-up and a lot more on if it's really cold. The theory being that it saves a lot of energy maintaining a near-constant temperature as opposed to heating the place from cold two or three times a day. The practical reality is that the radiators are no longer a reliably hot place for drying the laundry nor for warming the cat! Whether we turn the system off for an extended time (as we did before when the weather was warm enough) is yet to be determined this year. Side gate latched firmly shut in the wind. It might last an hour before someone uses it and fails to close it properly. It's a bit of a nuisance when it bangs loudly all night. So are those neighbours who come in the back way at 2am and do likewise It's bed-time for this ER. Sleep well if the weather allows. G'night all. 5 1

Popular Post JohnDMJ
Having recently been discharged from an enforced hospital stay for observation following a routine, planned procedure, I have nothing but praise for the dozen or so Nurses and Health Care Assistants who looked after me, as well as the medical and catering teams. It is more the local surgery level that is problematic and getting worse here as more and more housing is replacing the glasshouses in which were once grown your local UK tomatoes! 10 1

Our house used to be like that. Two things I have had done made a huge difference, the first was fitting A rated double glazing and the second was having a new roof put on 3 years ago. The old roof was so bad that it seemed like there was a gale inside the loft! Despite that we did put the heating on for a hour this evening, but the room has stayed warm for the 3 hours since it was on. Still very wet and windy outside! 20

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted May 20, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 20, 2021 Good evening everyone Well the weather hasn’t been kind to me at all today, although I did manage to get the strawberry plants planted. However, I’ve decided to leave the rhubarb in it’s pot for now and plant it out once I’ve put in the camomile, then I will be able to see where is a good place for it. I did make a start on the path, but kept getting rained off, so after the third time, of packing stuff away and then restarting, I gave up completely, packed everything away for the last time and went back to the cellar. I then made a start on putting up the plasterboard for the ceiling. When I measured up the other day, it became apparent that I’d have to do more cutting than first though, due to the fact that where 2 boards joined together, lengthways, there wasn’t a joist at that point. So I bought an extra sheet, getting 6 instead of 5! After measuring carefully I cut the first sheet, I then removed the 2 light fittings that would otherwise be covered by the plasterboard. I then positioned the jacks so that the plasterboard when resting on them, would be clear of the gas pipe. The sheet of plasterboard was then lifted onto the 4 (homemade) plasterboard jacks and jacked it up until it almost touched the joists. It was then very carefully slide it between the joists and the gas pipe, (the gap was less than 1 inch) moving the jacks along as I did so, until it reached its final position. Once there, I was then able to make the cutout for the dining radiator pipe, before sliding up against the wall. Phew, happy with its position, it was jacked up until it touched the joists and I could fix it permanently in place. So using the screws I picked up from Screwfix the other day, I started screwing it to the ceiling, it seemed to take ages, but is a lot quicker than using nails and quieter too! This whole procedure was repeated 2 more times, removing light fittings as I went along. By dinner time I’d got 2 sheets up and a 3rd was done after dinner, so by the end of the afternoon I’d done half of the ceiling.
