Out and about today after our CoViD-19 restrictions were removed statewide. Inside stores (boxmarts and supermarkets) I'd estimate that 50% of people were still masked. It will be interesting to see whether this changes.

Greetings one and all

 

There are some nice things to mention this morning.  The first is a clever parody of the sea shanty “John Kanaka” perpetrated by Jim Causley and friends in honour of the weather presenter Tomasz Schafernaker.  It goes like this:

 

I thought I heard the weather man say

Tomasz Schafernaker, too rye ay

Tomorrow’s weather will be fine and gay

It is all over social media and has apparently been on TV so with any luck it will be difficult to escape.  Somehow I think that I will hear it again in Sidmouth from the man himself – that’s Jim, not Tomasz.

 

The second is something on TV tonight, at least according to the wishlist that Radio Times has become.  Provided that the tennis does not go on all through the night, there is a fighting chance that one of my favourite films will be shown on BBC2.  “Pride” is the true story of an alliance between the LGBT community and the miners during the 1984-85 strike.  For my money it was the best film of 2014.  The cast includes Bill Nighy, Andrew Scott and Imelda Staunton.  Even though I saw it twice in the cinema when it was released and have it on DVD I might just sit up and watch it again.

 

The third is something new in Bristol, namely a rainbow crossing in Wine Street.  Were it not for the cancellation of a related event next weekend I would have seen it for myself and no doubt admired it.  Oh well, can’t have everything.

Good moaning from the Charente.  No rain outside but the farmers were working their combines till 23.0 last night. I think it's wheat now after the bsrley.  It will almost certainly  rain today.  

 

I had 6 hours waiting for the delivery but the day was not wasted, I drew a small building after much research on old photos. A toilet block believe it or not.  That has now to be muddled.    

 

This morning we will of course be talking to young Emily and her Mums.  After that I'm off to the tip with a car full of cardboard packaging.  Beth then needs taking to a physio appointment.  After that, hopefully  some shed timr.

 

Not a lot else to report.

Good morning all,

It is another dull start to the day.  It became very sunny yesterday, so much so that I didn't wash the car.  If I don't wash it today maybe the sun will make another lengthy appearance.

Various mundane tasks were undertaken including moving some money around  and I then watched the T de F intermittently during the afternoon.  After that there was some rugby on offer much to the disgust of The Boss  who is, like many here, fed up with all the sporting offerings on TV at the moment.  She will be unhappy again today and tomorrow as more rugby, cycling and F1 will take up part quite a lot of my day.

Time for some breakfast and then I will have to make a decision about car washing.

Dull and misty in North Somerset. 13mm of rain overnight.  Another car wash from the skies, saving me from even thinking about it. 

 

Grandson came yesterday and spent most of the time playing with the old Lego train set one of my sons used to have. It doesn't work electrically, but he doesn't worry about that, as his main interest is making a track layout and then changing it for another of his mental track plans. This can go on for hours, as he seems to love the idea that he can break everything down and make something new without any outside interference. 

 

I managed to persuade him to go to the allotment because there might be a few ripe strawberries, and he wandered outside at one point and then came rushing back in to tell me he had seen a frog jump into the pond. He starts school in September, and as long as they have a frog pond and a self build railway track - he will be in his element.

Raining..already.. yellow warning of flooding is out.. my game is due to be played on a flood plain.. don't think the game will happen. Pah!

 

We now have two tickets for three days of the Roses match at Headingley.  Hopefully it will be sunny and warm by then.

 

Time to drink my mugatea then get ready to go to Olicanians.

Re sport on TV, the only thing we have on is F1, so the TV has not been on since about 5-30am Friday, YES I DO MEAN AM, when I saw the By Election result come in, then I went back to bed for an hour.

 

There are some BIG changes planned on the Mo....ing front in the next few weeks, once my article has been in RM next Month, (August Edition), and another Photo Shoot by another Magazine for an article in 2022.

 

Off to prepare the body for the day ahead now so;

Yesterday didn't work out as planned. Went to Chelmsford for what should have been my first plasma donation ( having given whole blood for many years). The staff went through the various checks, height/weight suitable veins and a pulse check. At that point I was excluded; my pulse is apparentlt irregular. Given a letter to contact the GP. Once home a request for an appointment reaulted in the GP phoning back in short time, followed by an appointment at the surgery a couple of hours later for an ECG and consultation. It appears that there is an extra baet at times which is causing the issues. Need to go back after a blood test next week. The GP doesn't think there is anything seriously wrong, but it may need referral to a cardiologist to say I can still give blood. Without such a ticket my blood doner career is over.

When Ben the I want out Collie dragged me out at 06:00, it wasn't raining, it is now..

Ben the upset Collie visited us at 03:30, he checked we were ok before heading for the craft room and his adopted bed. Why was he upset? Well the door to the conservatory had come open, the conservatory is ancient pre WW2 and single glazed. 03:30... First light and the bird scarers start.

 

It's summer.. so the seaweed man is promising gales and heavy rain on Monday and more rain before then. 

So todays plans, dig up some more slabs, work on the boat, the order of which is rain dependant. Read that big book, there's nothing to watch on TV.

I see Brian is picking me up on my use of English langwidge grammar.....well it is my second language, being a Geordie! 

 

One wonders what people are trying the achieve by injecting botox into their man-pods, or perhaps it is better not to wonder...most odd.

 

Today is supposed to be a bus ride to the Big City to get a train back-over (the first from this end isn't until 11.10, too late) to the railway hub of Laxey for lunch and completing the ride back to the Bright Lights of Ramsey.  Pleut may have changed this as there is a fair walk at the far end, orders have not as yet been issued.  It's all go you know.

Anyway, it's the usual South Derbyshire grey and dull but with added wetness and the sky looks laden with much more, Pah for the second time.

 

Today's  plans are therfore upended and hasty new arrangements will probably end up in a non productive day.

The Boss is hinting at assistance needed with domestic stuff including Shark operating.  Great!

In all seriousness though I remind ERs of the recent incident at the House of Fun where a young woman slipped in wet conditions when boarding a train and “went down the gap”. It was only her padded cheeks which prevented the descent being total and a far more serious incident as she came to rest with legs in space and her behind perched on the white line. 
 

Good morning all. A slow one thus far Upon the Moist Hill of Strawberries. We are disinclined to venture forth for now though the seaweed-wranglers predict it will be more wet later on. We shall see.

Good morning everyone 

 

Dull and wet here in England's northwest. By the amount of wetness out there it looks like it's been raining for quite a while. I'm glad I'd not planned any outdoor work for today, it looks like my choice of doing all the planting on Thursday was the right choice to make. 

 

So my plan of continuing with the underfloor storage work at the weekend was a good one, well I'd better get cracking then.

Editor cleared.  Privacy notice clicked.  The things we have to do these days  

 

It is now persisterating down.  I felt it coming; the air has been so heavy and humid this morning there was going to be a point where it could no longer contain the H2O.  The laundry is still launwet and stubbornly refuses to acknowledge the "dry" part of the deal.  It's too warm to turn the heating up for drying purposes.  

 

It's days like this when I miss the Aussie air-conditioning; you placed your clothing in front of the unit and tuned it to maximum blow at what ever temperature you felt comfortable with.  Alternatively on a hot Melbourne day of 42C and in the northerly gale which usually accompanies that weather you hung stuff outside and it was dry before you had the last item pegged up!  

 

Dr. SWMBO was up in the night talking to friends in Australia and Canada and is now out for the count at almost-lunchtime.  Ah well.  I have plenty of stuff to get on with.  Minute to write up, books in progress, photos to wade through, Domestic Engineering if I really really have to     One irony of the hay-fever  season is that dust makes the symptoms worse.  But to remove the dust requires ..... well ..... disturbing it which leads to a self-reinforcing cycle of sneezing and eye-watering   

 

My antisocial meeja is quiet today.  No-one seems interested in playing.  Sometimes that's good, sometimes I miss having the social contact and being able to nip round and see a friend.  Even friendships now seem to be "pre-bookings only" since Covid.

Plans changed.  Didn't fancy wielding The Shark so told Herself that the car was much dirtier than the house and was therefore a priority.  Car washed thoroughly, dried, is now gleaming and car cleaning stuff put away. 

You can guess what happened next.

The promised rain arrived and is currently coming down steadily and will do so for at least 42 minutes according to the app.

I am now going to sit somewhere quiet* with a coffee and wait for lunchtime and then some rugby to watch.

 

* No flippin' chance of quiet here at the moment as loft conversion guys 2 doors away are playing with angle grinders and next door (attached) has kitchen  and new floor fitters in banging away merrily.

G'day all,

 

50% chance of a thunderstorm this afternoon has vanished off the Met Office site and we now have Yellow Thunderstorms promised instead.  Promised rain showers also 'cancelled' by seaweed readers - shame nobody told the showers themselves that they were no longer forecast as they are still visiting.

 

Miele word mentioned, at least twice so far but first the sun is out and we'll be off to Tesco to try to get a parking space in the gap between morning football and afternoon football in the adjacent sports ground.
