RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 26, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 26, 2021 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. The visit to the model railway emporium wasn't as successful as I hoped as the items required were not in stock but they have now been ordered. Took a bit of time getting there as within a half mile of said emporium the road was closed for repairs resulting in a three mile detour, not helped by half the lanes on the A13 being closed between Pitsea and Saddlers Farm sending excess traffic on the route as well. Arthur Itis has been making a fuss as well so another brace of Nurofen has been taken.

We have normally used the annual travel insurance from our bank (enhanced to cover an increasing list of existing conditions) but if they can’t comply with what the cruise line want we will just go with the cruise recommended one. The holiday has been rebooked about three times now. It started as a cruise to Iceland in 2020. Now toilets are inside you have to buy chokoes from the supermarket. Woolies have them currently for $1.57 each online which shows people are mad these days. Apparently they were boiled to mush then served but my home always had an inside toilet so mum never cooked them. As a result I've rarely had to eat them unless the rumour that Mcdonalds got caught using them as apple replacements in their apple pie things here in the '80's is true. For those in far away lands wondering what this is about cos you have no chokos there apparently chokos are also called chayote, mirliton, güisqu and , pimpinela and is a kind of gourd. 5 11

We’ve tried to straighten them up so he can still get to work but it’s going nowhere, I’ve had to turn the fork round and spin the handlebars to at least the bend is facing forward as I had to get off and catch the train back to the caravan, not an ideal situation but nothing else I could do in the time, it’s going to be new forks whatever happens! My first reaction would be to ground the bike. Those Zoom Fuego forks are not good when straight. The factory price is probably sub US$30. In the Far East e.g. Japan and Malaysia they can be picked up new retail for the equivalent of £30 -£35 sterling. They will never straighten properly and stay functioning correctly after a bend like that. Another issue with turning the forks is that disc brake rotors of that design are directional. If the rest of the bike is OK, no damage to the frame down tube (I managed to crack one of those) or headset lower bearing, distortion for instance, you could source a better set either new or S/H. I regularly drop forks out on mountain bikes during 'Heavy General' maintenance and have changed a couple of sets which were beyond economic repair. 4 1

Tony We went on a 4 day UK cruise in August and took out extra insurance for the cruise compliant Covid cover needed as I couldn’t get through to get an answer from our bank’s insurance underwriters to confirm what was and wasn’t covered! P & O’s recommended insurer’s website was down when I tried to use it but passed me on to another insurer. Their basic quote for 4 days for the two of us was about £80. When I declared my various ailments it went up to £126 but we swallowed it as we’d already paid for the cruise. We’ve got another one to Norway booked next April for a week and the last time I checked the extra cover will be about £185. Still cheaper than forking out thousands if you do catch something and need medical attention/repatriation etc but we’re waiting to see how things transpire over the next 3 months as we don’t have to pay until end of January. Like Tony this cruise has been rebooked 3 or 4 times and may well have to be done again if Norway shut the doors. Popular Post andyram
Evening all and generic greetings. Thanks to those who have sent good wishes. Today has been a day a very hectic day with a Teams meeting first thing in the morning prior to the shop opening. That was followed by a busy day in the shop with plenty of visitors and sales. Marking was completed in-between the customers and I completed a fair amount of work. 7 hours ago, The Lurker said: And good to see Andyram posting, and with tales of good news. It always seems odd to me that he is paid for marking only when a student passes. If ever there were an incentive to someone less scrupulous than Andy no doubt is....still, I am sure there are reasons for doing it that way. More importantly it has allowed him some financial security so that the shop can get established. The "paid by pass" procedure certainly is an odd one. I admit that there were some days where I would work all day in the shop and then until midnight just to make sure I passed enough to allow me to hit my weekly money target in order to pay the bills. This was because there were days when so many would fail and I would not pass them for the sake of the money. As Lurker has mentioned there are some less scrupulous assessors and, as Curriculum Lead, it is my job to monitor such practices. There are a couple of assessors who are already on my radar. Stay safe Andy 15 1

Its a mad crush; all right if you like crowds but what pleasure is there otherwise. The same people doing the same thing, otherwise you can't eat and drink your way across the Med or wherever. Gamble if you must; its a time waster as well as money waster.
