RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 10, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 10, 2022 Evening all from Estuary-Land. I've done very little today but I still feel cream crackered but not as bad as yesterday. All down to the exertions of Saturday, I estimate that I walked about four or five miles in all at the toy fair, exhibition and Tess Coes. 13

Ozexpatriate
Habit is such as it is that I wandered out to the mail box at the usual time, only to find it empty and realize that today is (as noted earlier) a Federal Holiday and there is no delivery. I have left things too late to do the errands I had planned having distracted myself with hobby-related activity. They can keep until tomorrow. 2
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted October 10, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 10, 2022 Good evening everyone When we got to RHS Bridgewater, the car park was fairly empty, so as the weather was nice, we decided to go for a walk through the woods and round the lake. The distance is only about 1 1/4 miles, but it’s a very relaxing walk and it’s always nice seeing and hearing the wildlife as we walk. We then called in at the cafe and had a drink, I also had a slice of Parkin, something I’ve not eaten for some time. In fact, when we got home, I searched the internet and found a recipe for Parkin, so Ava and I will be making that next Saturday morning. After our drinks' we went to the garden centre and bought some spring bulbs, at a guess I’d say we bought around 200 or so, so if the weathers nice over the next few days, I’ll be busy getting them all in the ground. Due to doing the woodland walk we were at Bridgewater longer than planned, so ended up having a late dinner. After dinner we went to Sainsbury’s and completed the Grand Prix. Although before going in Sainsbury’s we went into the local card shop to buy all the family Christmas cards. 16

Popular Post iL Dottore
Good morning all, Up very early this morning thanks to having contracted, in Edinburgh, what is probably Covid. The symptomatology (rigors, chills, diaphoresis, non-productive cough) fits and although unpleasant the symptoms are quite mild - in fact they are even milder than the reactions I had to the second dose of the Covid vaccine (the “reaction“ to the vaccine was nothing more than to the immune system doing what it is supposed to do when confronted by a virus. Although with the vaccine, I only had one night of unpleasantness). Suitably masked, I will visit a pharmacy later today and get some Covid test packs to confirm, or contradict, my tentative diagnosis (the symptoms also fit those of influenza and one or two other upper respiratory tract infectious). Not that it will make much of a difference to what I will be doing anyway: symptomatic treatment, rest and isolation from others. postscript: now with a sandwich and a sweet coffee inside me, I am feeling better, but drained. But, hey-ho, so it goes
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted October 11, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 11, 2022 Good moaning from a damp Charente. ID obviously didn't imbibe enough Scottish liquid antiseptic to keep such things at bay. We had quite a long daynout in Niort. Beth had her eye tests. Then some lunch followed by visiting vsrious sellers of assorted tat tto buy Presents for the kids. These are all small things to be openedvon a certainn day in December. A part timer friend who is due over soon will be given some bixes to post on her return to the UK. By the time we'spd done three shops and I'd bought some push bike tyres, Beth was cream crackered. We didn't get home till after 4.30. However a nice tea was had and whilst Beth chatted to a friend by video, I had a productive hour in the shed. The supermarket is due to be raided this morning. After that I have no idea what the day will bring. Regarde to all. Jamie 5

Today involves buy ing some bread buns and indoor cricket umpiring tonight..the rest of my time can be spent doing "things". Stay safe! You're on the right track though..... 😉 Is @TheQ a veteran of The Casa d'Italia by any chance? Now that was one fine Restaurant in this Bear's Book. I'm guessing all the staff must be long gone now, sadly - as is the Restaurant itself. Bear would've gladly spent his own dosh in that place - which is a rare honour, believe me. Bear gone. Yes several times, for about 6 or 7 years I'd spend a week or two each year at Warton on calibration or installation, so that would 4 nights per week up there at the companies expense.. Soon learnt the in house main meals in the hotels were generally carp.. There was a Chinese I particularly liked as well, having just done a quick search that appears to be a Thai restaurant now.. For lunch time we got fabulous filled rolls from this place, I don't think it was Viv's eatery then, but it was good, It's in Freckleton on the back road into Warton Airfield. which was the normal way I went on site. Of the Five Brothers in my Dads generation 4 served, the 3 oldest in WW2, one in Burma, The other two in Europe, my Dad in Aden, Kenya, Cyprus and Northern Ireland from 56-63.. One uncle was young enough to not be called up, so he was a founding member of the Trogs, when they were called the Troglodytes, and just into the days of the Trogs... but if you go to their online history he's been written out... Mooring awl, 5 hours sleep then... nothing much at all just one very short doze off, brain wouldn't shut off, although for a change I was comfortable.. It's a full moon and clear skies , so Ben the happy Collie went out for a full patrol and was playing games.. First he did the "look sad bit" waited for me to give him a stroke then just as I got there, he bounced away..." fooled yah" Then he started playing hide and seek round the bushes and eventually circled around behind me, I only found him when his name tag clinked on his collar.. As for same old whatever, I work out the calibration programme every couple of months, a major system or two a week, squeeze in the shunts, resistors and anything else in between.. The next time I do the programme will be my last unless I do one for those who are taking over.. The former boss is recalibrating a master instrument, which I was supposed push on following some prompts on the computer screen. However it appears to have all sorts of problems with the test computer with warning messages about the hard drive. So I'm not touching that. But have swiped the test instrument back to run this weeks major system, it's just warming up on 10A ACI, it'll be finished before he gets in.. Time to be ready to change connectors to wide band ACV on the cal.. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted October 11, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 11, 2022 Good morning all, Blue sky and sunshine here but it's only 5°C at the moment. It should be a mainly dry day with plenty of sunshine. No firm plans have been made for today but The Boss has not appeared yet so things may change and I may get asked to assist with something. I may wander down to The Shed and do something down there as I have neglected things for a few days. Actually more than that as I suppose just playing with the toys doesn't count as muddling. Haven't done any of that for ....weeks? Soon be time for my porridge, Have a good one, Bob. 3
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted October 11, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 11, 2022 We have friends who live in Freckleton and relations who live in Wrea Green.. memories are strong of "The Grapes" in the latter village. I only visited Warton five times .. twice for job interviews (turned both down), once to talk about training/mentoring Graduate Engineers and the last two times were to do with their failed attempt to design an Armoured Fighting vehicle. Only stayed at a hotel at the M55/M6 junction. Never ate in their canteen so can't comment on what it was like.. a couple of friends who worked there always had packing up... RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted October 11, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 11, 2022 I seem to be a true Early Riser today as I sit here waiting for the grocery delivery. There was a red sunrise this morning which doesn't bode well but at the moment the sky is mainly blue with very little wind. Yesterday I had a good walk on the beach after doing the house jobs and washing. Once again there was a very low tide so there was no need to scramble over the breakwaters, I simply walked round them at the seaward end. There was a cold wind, I should have worn either a thicker sweater or a warmer jacket. It's that time of year when I never know what to put on when I go for a walk - I either end up frozen or cooked. There weren't many people about, perhaps a couple of dozen people spread over the three miles of beach which gave dogs plenty of room to run about without being a nuisance. You already know what I did yesterday afternoon in terms of family history, so I won't repeat it. In due course I will pass on what I have learnt to a distant relative who is doing a lot of family history research. I also took out the rest of the sweet peas as there were no more flower buds, just dead stems and leaves with a few greenish bits here and there, they seem to have died overnight. It really feels like the year is moving quickly into real autumn. There are more autumn colours showing now so I must go and have a look at some of the local woodlands. RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted October 11, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 11, 2022 Good morning everyone A dull and grey start, but the sun is starting to show itself here in the northwest corner of England. The plan for today is to make a start on planting the bulbs we bought yesterday. I don’t expect to get them all in as part of today will be planning where they are going to go, but hopefully by the end of the day I’ll have the vast majority in. Yesterday I managed to get some more rhubarb, so I’ll be making some more rhubarb and strawberry jam this afternoon. Back later. Brian 17 1
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 11, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 11, 2022 Morning all from Estuary-Land. An item this morning on the breakfast show with regard to how orchards are disappearing reminded me of when I went out on Saturday I went via the A130 from the A127 to Wickford. Among the roadside vegetation I spotted a couple of apple trees and a pear tree all dripping with fruit. The pear tree in particular had so much fruit it was bending under the weight. The down side is that the A130 is very busy and it would be dangerous to stop and pick it. 11 1 1
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted October 11, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 11, 2022 Morning, just checking out the weather before risking a bike ride. If a certain super-villain wonders about the capability of a soft toy, I suggest re-watching 'Ted'. Donk isn't as rude, but is more than capable of creating chaos in a manner little yellow minions would not be any help whatsoever. Like a true goodie, he has an Aston Martin too. 7 8
