RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted July 25, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 25, 2023 I went out before 10 and had a good walk along the beach, this time further south than yesterday, south of the promenade. I did about 1.5 miles, if I had gone to the southern end on the sand it would be well over 2 miles. I decided not to have a coffee at the van in the carpark but came home and sat down in a comfy chair. Then I got on with some muddling and did a bit of acrossword - one I am for some reason finding very hard. Then it was time for a chicken salad follwed by fresh grapefruit (no sugar). In the afternoon I tidied some bookshelves - that is one pile of books off the floor. I also found a small booklet about an obscure area of the north pennines which had parallel strips of steel - one day I may go and look at the remains. The greenhouse plants have been watered and some more deadheading done. Then there was another shower - there have been several sharp ones since lunchtime - so I came back inside and had a cup of tea and cake just a cherry bakewell. I also rang Peco about a missing magazine, a second copy will be sent, I'm not the only person with the problem apparently. It will soon be time to have "proper tea" and start another book. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted July 25, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 25, 2023 (edited) Evenin' each, The Back and The Knee here. Our owner has been on his feet for about 4 hours in The Shed and has possibly overdone it as we are hurting. However he has managed to ballast roughly 12 feet of track which in real terms he believes equates to about 300 yds. Not bad for a one man P-Way gang. Only about another 500 yds for him to do. We are not looking forward to it. Edited July 25, 2023 by grandadbob

I actually found ballasting quite therapeutic, though because I built my layout at around 3 feet 6 inches(imperial measurements as it's a pre Beeching steam one) it was less strenuous on the back, no leaning down. 16
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 25, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 25, 2023 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Despite sleeping well last night I felt the need for some eyelid inspection after lunch, it ceased only half an hour ago. Now its time for dinner, cauliflower cheese. I've applied to up my equity release so that I can buy my new car. I'll pop down to the dealer and book a test drive tomorrow. 14
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted July 25, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 25, 2023 (edited) @tigerburnie TB my OO layout is 3 feet 3 and a bit inches high so not really too low for a just about 5 ft 10 ins GDB. However The Back likes to complain even when I'm standing up straight! OTOH my O gauge shelf is above the OO and is 5 feet 2 inches high so I use a step for that although it's only got some bare track on it. Three link couplings are a bit of a pain, (that's putting it mildly) I didn't really think it through properly when I built it and it's on the "list" to be redone..........eventually. RMweb Premium Popular Post Tim Dubya Posted July 25, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 25, 2023 (edited) Popped in on Derek and his dawg. She's almost sussed out the fetch with a ball game. When she gets hyper she can't give the ball back but after she's calmed down she will bring it back and put it in your hand. She will also throw the ball at you if she can get a bit of purchase on a bit of green fluff off it. Swapped a bottle of Jam Shed Malbec (my current favourite, the Shiraz is a blinder too) for a lift to 'scos and home. Time to crash in front of the TV 👍 Edited July 25, 2023 by Tim Dubya

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted July 25, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 25, 2023 Evening Awl, Left knee here. I objected to the person I propel, crawling beneath someone else's unit of parallel bits of metal, collecting a unpowered thing that sits on parallel bits of metal, then crawling back under again. I been reminding him all evening since then it was not a good idea... After that I spent two hours at our quarterly meeting, a couple of minor things to change on my report. Most of the evening was discussing our up coming show. Now I have the details it will be posted on this forum tomorrow along with many local area forums and Facebook groups. Then I made like a ganger for a few minutes before departing home in light rain. Discussed at our meeting, Our chairman sent out several emails asking for donations of £750 to other committee members... Only if you carefully looked the email address was not, .UK but somewhere south of the equator... Muggachoccy gone, Good night Awl. 1

Popular Post tigerburnie
My problem with wine is I have become a bit(or a lot) of a wine snob, I'd only drink French, nothing else will do in the Red wine market, they really know what they are doing with my taste buds. There is however a problem I have an embargo on anything French until they get rid of the petulant child that is Macron. Luckily there is a solution at hand, draft scrumpy in a box from the West Country, not only have I not fallen out with those from Devon, Dorset, Zummerzet, Glaws or Hereford but as a bonus by buying online I have navigated around the Scottish governments stealth tax on alcofrolic nectar......................................hic. 17 2
Popular Post Erichill16
Evening All, A busy and tiresome day here, knackered and balance playing up. Water leak not sorted yet, it’s not on the cistern, but on the hot water feed to the sink. A tile has been smashed to gain access to the void but in the wrong place as the leak is not where it was predicted to be. The leak is barely accessible from the hole and we only have one spare tile. Turdycurses. The hot water has be isolated and work will continue tomorrow. Goodnight.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 25, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 25, 2023 Evening all from Estuary-Land. I might be changing my car soon but I have to get it taxed by the end of the month. At least its only £35 for the year. 17 minutes ago, Dave Hunt said: Me too, which was potentially dangerous because my TV licence is actually due at the end of this month. Dave I thought that as well but I've been paying by direct debit for years so wherever they got the information from it must be pretty ancient. Another couple of errors were they used the name from my e-mail address which has a number tagged on the end and that was included as in 'Dear P***** W******#' and the date was American, month-day-year. 10 5

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted July 25, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 25, 2023 Good evening everyone Well my day didn’t pan out as I wanted it to, I ended up getting a sander on the filler, as I’d put more on than I thought I had. Then whilst sanding, it started to rain, so I had to stop, re-hang the door and wait for it to stop. Thankfully the rain didn’t last long. But it rained more than once, so I was constantly starting and stopping. Of course, that meant taking the door down and putting it back each time. However, whilst I was sheltering, I managed to sort out the door catch and lock, so it now closes and locks easier than before. The weather in the afternoon was much better and the door is now ready for painting. I know this isn’t a scientific measurement, but on Thursday afternoon, I was using a bucket to mix the nematodes I bought the day before. When I’d finished applying them, I unintentionally left a bucket outside, where it remained over the weekend. I only noticed it yesterday morning, when I was walking back to the house. When I went to pick it up, I found that there was about 4 1/2in of water in it. This is what fell during Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

For some reason my layout was built with the track bed at 1 metre off the floor. It' s actually quite comfy to work on and the lower back doesn'complain too much. 3link couplings are still tricky at that height. Good moaning. We could do with some rain here. However I managed to cut most of the grass yesterday. This morning will be, as yet, unspecified pottering. Regards to all and Sundry.
