Popular Post Ozexpatriate
A scintillatingly clear Autumn day today. Friday was nice too but mid-week was damp. Cold overnight with our first frost of the season this morning and clear skies all day. This evening saw the full "Hunter's" Moon rise in the clear skies. It's cold out. The thermometer says 8°C but it feels much colder than that. It was about 1°C during my morning walk. Today saw the furnace turned on for the season and I've had the gas fireplace on during the afternoon. There's lots of Autumnal colours in the trees but they are very patchy this year - with very little of a full explosion of colour. We're probably at what passes here as 'peak' colour but it doesn't happen all at once here. We'll see some colour through the end of November. In between college football this afternoon, in bright sunshine with a chilly breeze I raked the penultimate leaves from the little tree in the grassy verge and got the mower out, hopefully for the last time of the season. This is very much my favourite time of year. 14
Popular Post Erichill16
I like autumn as well, especially when the colours are at their best and the days are fine, dry and the sun is shining. Had a few days like that but this year it’s been mainly the other side of autumn with miserable weather, rain, fog and no sign of the sun. Is it breakfast time yet? 11 3

Popular Post Erichill16
A couple of weeks ago we had a long weekend in north Wales and got both types of autumn weather, Didnt take many pictures but when the sun was out I managed this shot looking over Llyn Padarn from Llanberis. The building on the far shaw is the old hospital that cared for people injured in the slate quarries to the left of the picture.
Popular Post Erichill16
We went in the motorhome and took Syd and Hovis. Sydney’s a inquisitive little dog, always wanting to know what’s going on and loves train rides. Here’s a picture of him on the lake railway, front paws on the window ledge and just turning his head long enough for the picture. He’s a real character.

A couple of pigmy hippos in size. The garden is squelchy again. Tis, breezy damp and dull out there. The weather for mid this week looks very bad again. A couple of years ago I got the complete Cadfael set of books, ( secondhand paperback), I've finally started reading them, I don't normally read fiction but have found them enjoyable. I read each one in around an hour and a half to two hours. Although the description of Cadfael is a rolling gaited former sea captain and crusader. I still see in my mind Derek Jacobi, a person very unlike the books description. I got a phone call yesterday, from my sailing compatriot, he's fit enough to launch his boat, so that's today's plan for the day. But first breakfast and a muggacoffee.

RMweb Premium Barry O Posted October 29, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 29, 2023 (edited) Ey up! Really good nights sleep obtained. Great! For the first time in a while it's not foggy outside. I hate Autumnal foggy mornings. While at my senior school in Hartlepool, we were very close to the Lighthouse. The sound of the fog horn going all day was something I don't miss! Watched the Rugby. Interesting how the on and off field teams worked together. Time for my mugatea and then.. reset some clocks! Have a good day! Baz Edited October 29, 2023 by Barry O
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted October 29, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 29, 2023 (edited) I was up and down a lot during the night, the bladder kept wanting me to go to the loo but not much happened each time. The GP did say it could be at least a fortnight before normality returns. I remembered to change the clocks last night so woke before the alarm and decided I might as well get up at just after 06.30. I will to have to find out how to change the clock in the car but may leave it until it is a bit drier - at least that's my excuse. Once this piece is written it will be time for the usual phone calls and e mails before church. It is raining quite hard outside, it is forecast to continue all day so after I come back home I think I may have a quiet day indoors. I might even watch a DVD about trains. I remember the Cadfael series on TV, I enjoyed it, I've also read most of the books and enjoyed them too. As TheQ says the Cadfael in the books is not like Derek Jacobi. I hope you all have a good day. David Edited October 29, 2023 by DaveF

Hroth
Before ascending the wooden hill, I went around and reset all the Real Clocks in the house so there would be no confusion this morning. Now all I need do is check that the radio-controlled clocks bothered to listen to the time-change signal, otherwise its batteries out and reorientate them. Just as much fuss as a Real Clock, without the character! At least the Echo Dot with built in clock sorted itself out to wake me at the correct time!
RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted October 29, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 29, 2023 (edited) At first people were messin' with the days of the week so that when Bear thought it was Thursday they were tellin' me it was Sunday, when in reality it seems that today is Tuesday after all. Then @Happy Hippo comes along and gets Bear posting the right answers to the wrong questions (or is that the wrong answers to the right questions?) in the wrong place (or is that the right place?). Next comes @iL Dottore tellin' Bear that if he doesn't mend his ways and start living off organic lettuce instead of Pizza n' Curly Fries then I'll be dead before I'm 35 - meaning I've not got long left. And now? Well even Alexa is in on the conspiracy by sayin' it's 8am when every clock in Bear Towers tells Bear it's really 7am..... I reckon it's all a cunning ploy to discover the location of the SCR. edit: It seems that @Hroth is being targeted as well - only he fell for it. But Bear's smarter than yer average, er, Bear so there's no trickin' me....... Edited October 29, 2023 by polybear 1 19

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted October 29, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 29, 2023 Mornid. Still full of glue, but test negative now. Mrs NHN still +ve. The clock battle here is under way, this year the radio control clock worked perfectly, but last month was 10 minutes wrong - go figure. Red shift. Mrs H on the Phone-o-app thing to nephew and great niece and nephews, who are both on one, little Grace especially, who is usually the better behaved, is having a total little girlie meltdown over not using the magic word. Not sure whey we need to experience this live from south Wales. 3
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 29, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 29, 2023 Morning all from Estuary-Land. A very good night last night, almost eight hours ZZZZ's despite bladder control pressing the button a couple of times. The extra hour in bed helped of course and as most of my clocks adjust themselves, only the cheap battery alarm cock kept as backup and my watch to reset. The first was easy but my watch is a bit fiddly as the button has two positions, one for setting the date and the other for setting the hands. I didn't reset it until this morning with natural light and the self adjusting clocks as a guide. Fortunately the clock in the car automatically adjusts itself though sometimes if I don't use the car for a couple of days after the clocks change it takes a few minutes to adjust itself.

RMweb Premium Popular Post The White Rabbit Posted October 29, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 29, 2023 Morning all, Not a bad night's sleep at awl, only one trip to the bathroom required. Otherwise, 9-10 hours sleep had, which must be some sort of record in the last couple of years. Our central heating clock reset yesterday morning rather than a few hours ago when it's supposed to happen. And the radio controlled clock has reset but the display has gone very faint, almost illegible. Other timepieces have relied on my finger pressing various buttons. Glad to hear positive (no, I meant the other way...) news from Neil. Sorry to hear Dave H's news. This autumn does seem to have been very wet. I tried a wander yesterday and had to turn back after a bit, it was too slippy underfoot and if I take a tumble, it could be nasty. The trees were trying their best but the larger ground cover plants were looking very sorry for themselves and more than usual were doing a good impression of being ex-plants. One canine regular seen and greeted, she was a very soggy doggy indeed... Thoughts with Baz this weekend as it's traditionally a weekend I associate with gatherings at the Grammar School, though that's not happening this year. In previous years when I used to go and either sell things or ramble on to random passers-by about scenery, the 'commute' in was relatively picturesque as we'd take a route through the lanes and B roads north of Leeds rather than take the A roads. And with the trees in full colour and sometimes early morning mist, it was one I used to enjoy. Maybe try a little G-word stuff shortly, if only to clear the drains of dead leaves. Probably chicken for lunch - I don't fancy lettuce, organic or otherwise. New or roast potatoes sound good. I had a day of using up oddments in the fridge yesterday, which included a tea of a small bacon and goats cheese sandwich and a small individual treacle tart baked to finish up some pastry and the batch of golden syrup. Nice but a bit indulgent, so I'll aim to have some more fresh veg today. 5 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted October 29, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 29, 2023 Good morning. Welcome to Sun Day. In between some very heavy showers it is living up to its name Dr. SWMBO has pedalled off to church on the Trust Trike. It being St Just Feast today there are many Cornish kilt-wearers about. I may join them later but not for pew-warming before I’ve had a muggertea. Tomorrow sees the traditional meet of the Western Hunt in the square. They’re not supposed to hunt anything these days but they still disport themselves as though they do. I shall diplomatically avoid that event. The region still has strong support for hunting and whilst my opposition to it is also strong I’m not about to be the placard-waving newcomer in town who upsets everyone. Now about that muggertea ….. 17
