I have a couple of items pending too, I suspect one may be an item of mutual interest, loosely described as a 'buffet car'. 

 

Plus one for grey and dull, mid Wharfedale is not looking at its best today. Cold, wet and 'orrible outside. I won't be going far. 

 

Of certain recent AI pictures, two principal thoughts occur - Skippy looks a bit ... err ... 'nonplussed' at just what Bruce is up to, unless the 'photographer is a particularly attractive Sheila, I reckon he's going to be legging it to the hills in about 1.4 seconds time... And - why is that APC ploughing through industrial quantities of icing sugar?

Afternoon All.

 

A trip was made to a quaint old thing called a "Department Store" (JL, Welwyn Garden City if you are that interested) this morning as Mrs Puppers wanted to buy some fabric.    I can't remember the last time I went in such a shop which is probably why they are becoming rare objects.  None of the products on display matched the requirement specification no purchase was made.    Shame, I'd like to support such facilities if I can so that they are available when I want them in the future.

 

Astonishing news!   Last night starlight was viewed through the telescope for the first time in months.    It was only a half-hearted attempt with the scope indoors and looking through an open door.   As the mount had not been polar aligned the biggest problem was of course some twit kept moving the stars as I gazed.   I also very quickly tried the astro-camera module I bought earlier in the year.   I'm struggling with getting the exposure settings correct either in the capture software that came with it or in SharpCap.    More practice required.   I'm also rather alarmed by the apparent number of dead pixels present although the use of suitable calibration frames should get round the problem.   Anyway, the camera experiment wasn't very successful and that was probably due in a large part to the aforementioned twit who kept moving the stars as I tried to gaze.

 

A suitable 10mm bolt that will form the basis of the starter/generator rotor extractor for the RD was blagged off of the neighbour yesterday.

 

Oh yes, I need to put my credit card into intensive care as I've just had to purchase another complete set (6 off) cartridges for my Canon printer.   Whilst the cost made me wince a bit at least I know that when the old cartridges finally run out I can just put the new cartridges in and it will continue to work without further attention*  unlike that huge pile of HP junk that was a Which! Best Buy (Yeah, right!) that I once had the misfortune of owning.

 

*   i.e. Numerous repeated ink-wasting "Cleaning & Alignment cycles" that still left it dirty, misaligned and most importantly not working and all that after accusing me of using fake cartridges (which they never were).

 

I wonder what the weather will be like in the morning?   Will Puppers be venturing out on the bike I wonder?

A'noon, from glue central enterprises.  Well a bit less glue, but more tiredness, went out for lunch and a drag around a clothes shop, had to have a lie down afterwards, totally knackered.  No biking for me at the moment.

 

@PupCam I use Canon now too after HP disappointments, and use replica cartridges from 'The Cartridge People' with no issues.

After breakfast and a short time doing things on the PC  I woke up properly and drove to the small beach car park, I was slightly surprised there was a space.  I then had a walk southwards along the promenade to see just which bits were closed and what the barriers were like.  You will see them in the photos.  It would appear that the County Council have raided their stock of big plastic barriers and spaced them out along the promenade edge.  In most places they would end up on the beach quite quickly but round here things are often left alone (I hope that's not famous last words).  They look very lightweight but they were being filled with water to stop them blowing about.  Only about the southernmost 50 metres was closed off and that always has quite a big drop to the beach, it is just even bigger now.

 

This evening there is a fireworks display on the promenade and the Links just behind it along with a fair so there will be a lot of people about and of course some of them will be drinking.  While I was there a small big wheel, roundabouts and sideshows were setting up in part of the big car park.

 

Back home I had a coffee and looked at more photos on my TV.  After lunch I had a short nap and then ran things with wheels on shiny strips of nickel silver until I wanted a cup of tea.  Later on I shall watch Newcastle United on TV and read a bit, hopefully I will have an early night as I feel tired.

 

The medication still seems to be working, there are some side effects but they are supposed to wear off in time.  My biggest problem is feeling anxious about the whole thing so I am trying to find things to distract me.

As a matter of fact Sir Puppers I am interested.  I was born in WGC and lived there for  the first threeish years of my life and my Nan, Grandad and Great Aunt all lived there until they died in the 60s.  Nan and Aunt Daisy worked in the Welwyn Stores as it was in the 50s and I can remember a very young Robert (this was long before I became a Bob) being taken there by Mum in the 50s to see them.  Is the fountain still nearby?  Mum was a model during the war and had many pics taken by Lisa Sheridan (mother of Dinah Sheridan) who was a royal photographer and had a studio in WGC.

I think I've posted these before but here's a couple of Mum and me taken by her:

 The cigarette was probably a Craven A as apparently she was one of the Craven A girls and her picture was plastered over the London Underground.  Despite years of searching I've never managed to find a copy.

Yep, that's me and I even had some hair!   😂

Raining outside and there is a bit of a barrage but not as much as usual so I suspect the weather has put a dampener on proceedings for some.  The big local firework display is in Morden Park which is not far away but that is tomorrow night.  We usually watch the aerial part of the show from our conservatory, not sure why, just the habit of half a lifetime I suppose.

The Boss is watching some prancing on TV so I will don my headphones and search for something online or listen to some music.... and sup some beer.  Tribute is tonight's offering.

Back in the days when we were going to some northern shows and inviting people to buy accessories, we sold a lot of animals, whether for people's unmentionables or other modelling projects. I once sold half a dozen packs of Preiser dogs to a modern artist for one of her creations. Evening all from the middle of the Battle of the Somme. The first part of this evening I spent watching a documentary on the Gunpowder Plot. Though we all know the basics it's the little details that are fascinating such as having to get the monarchs permission to torture Guy Fawkes (as the monarch was the main target that wasn't all that difficult). Time to put the kettle on, be back later.

We've just watched the Gunpowder Plot too. Thought it was really interesting; sensible presenters who didn't dominate and without patronising content.
