Some comments received gave us information that may help retrieve the models. This information has been passed on to the police who are actively looking into the case.

Any progress on this aspect of the thread?

New developments..........

As a consequence of losing almost all our Locomotives in the Burglary, a period of contemplation was necessary to determine the way forward.

In order to get things moving, quite literally, a process of acquiring replacement locos has begun.

Some very kind gifts and discounts have enabled a start.

Predominantly R-T-R 00 based, conversion to EM in bulk is underway.

Following very interesting experiences with DCC and Sound on Mike Norris's Preston layout

and "research" at shows etc. we have decided to pursue a detailed investigation into incorporating DCC/Sound into all our locomotives.

Since we are not starting from scratch, we will have to integrate the new technologies into our existing control system, and John and Geoff are making good progress on that front.

Taking an existing Coal Tank loco and adding necessary chips and speakers (plug and play - no soldering required) we now have a working test train.

The DCC control is integrated into the DC control system (don't ask me how).

Here is the result of the first test:

Futher developments to follow, comments and constructive suggestions welcome.

Steve.

So sorry to read about the theft and the loss of so many locos, many I guess are irreplaceable.

The sight and sound of the coal tank is superb, if all locos are sound fitted the sound of the station at peak times will no doubt be not only a sight worth seeing, but hearing as well

How much better can it get ?

Just now hearing about the theft, and Im sorry to hear so many models were taken.

Shall keep an eye out for any of the models, perhaps the fellow thinks they can wait it out before piping them to ebay, should be wary of these things.

Best Regards,

Javier

It's good to hear that your starting on the road to recovery, it must be hard to come back from such a blow. I know I was really dismayed  to hear the news of the theft, I hope more comes from the search and recovery of some of the original stock.
I have missed seeing updates on this wonderful layout, keep the faith. 👍😁

Steve,

pleased to hear that some progress has been made, in both tracking down some of the stolen items, and in replacement too.

I do hope the Police take the matter seriously, and thoroughly follow up.

please pass the Folkestone guys’ kind regards to the Lime St crew

best

Simon

Hi Keith,

Thanks for asking.

I'm afraid no further news on the stolen models.

We got two back very quickly when they appeared on Ebay within two days.

A further  two were spotted for sale at Guildex and subsequently returned.

Nothing since.

Steve.

Did the police not follow up on who was selling?

Or were they too busy, as they always seem to be these days?

Beattock Station, shed and Moffat branch and goods facilities.

We've started on the baseboards (and signals of course).

Police very active initially and facilitated the return  of the first two locos.

Seemed to lose interest after a week

or three and didn't seem to follow up on information we gave them

They have now closed the case.

I've started a new topic for our Beattock project:

Hope you find it interesting.

Great to be back together............

Things have moved on a lot since all the Lime Street Crew were last together to discuss the way forward.

Great moves have been made in developing our use of DCC and incorporating it into the existing control system.

Another few weeks should see the two control panels modified with the DCC controls integrated.

At present we are using the development versions of our new controllers.

Some "ground rules" have been agreed for how we will use DCC.

Each engine will use DCC for driving control, supported by Directional lighting, Sound synchronised with speed at about 15 mph, Modest amounts of Inertia and momentum, and a large "stay alive" capacitor.

There will be  single set of control buttons which will execute similar but loco specific functions when used.

e.g.  Whistle/Horn, brakes, drain cocks, safety valves, shovelling coal etc. etc.

Yesterday saw the Crew gather at John's for updates and training/practice and an excellent lunch!

The Crew L-R:

John Holden; Noel Coates; Les Green; Steve Hewitt; John Rocca; Rob Harrison.

Her are some little video shots I managed to get on my phone.  Sorry for the shakes and fuzzy focus.

Very early, before the sun is up.

We are soon going to be having regular operating sessions, once the control panels are completed.

All the operators will have to go through several hours of practice as we all get to grips with our DCC.

More to follow as soon as possible..........

Steve

Just when we thought you couldn't make it any better you move forward again to even greater realism.

It was great to meet and chat with John, Les and Steve who were demonstrating loco building and signals at the recent Preston show.

It's good to know that they are undeterred by recent events and are continuing to develop the layout and building up the loco fleet to replace the losses.

Thanks @Steve Hewitt for the updates and the videos. Keep them coming please!
