RMweb Gold Popular Post Steve Hewitt Posted April 30, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 30, 2023 (edited) Latest additions...... The Jinty (and others?) will handle some of the Suburban services or occasionally perform Station Pilot duties. This Compound will be a regular on the "North Wales" services. Some of the other items stolen last year are also being replaced. John sent this photo with the comment: "Just arrived this morning, replacement coaches for the North Wales train that was stolen last year. I already have enough spare vehicles to make the train up to full strength and have received E M axles to convert." More soon...... Steve Edited April 30, 2023 by Steve Hewitt edited ro remove surplus photos. 47
RMweb Premium Dragonboy Posted May 1, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 1, 2023 Just read through the recent updates. Really pleased to see the great progress which you are making and look forward to further updates as and when. 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Steve Hewitt Posted May 19, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 19, 2023 Sector Plate now under DCC Control..... The sector plate is the link between the Station and Cutting and the "Rest of the UK." i.e. the fiddle yard sidings. Our move to DCC is a bit unconventional in that DCC is restricted to control of the trains and is deployed through the original DC Route Control system we have been using for many years. This means we only have control of Locos/Trains when they are on a selected route. At all other times they are electrically dead. This also allows us to give every loco the same DCC Address. We are also standardising the auxiliary DCC functions to a limited number which each have dedicated control buttons at each of the three operating locations. I hope this is clearer in this short video I shot on Wednesday when I managed to get on hour with John. We're making good progress replacing the stolen locos and looking forward to regular running sessions again in the not too distant future. RMweb Gold Popular Post Steve Hewitt Posted June 14, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 14, 2023 On 31/05/2022 at 20:02, Steve Hewitt said: DISASTER ! ................ The following message from John arrived this morning: "This morning I have woken up to find we have been burgled, or more accurately the shed has been broken into. Whoever has done this has forced open the up and over door. I have spoken to the police and am not allowed into the shed until they have been. I had to go in to close the up & over door and from what I can see ALL the locos’ have been taken. The shed is in a right bloody mess ,The cheeky have used some of the stock boxes to take the stuff." Later in the day he was allowed into the Railway and is now prepairing an inventory of all the missing items. He wrote: "I’m allowed in the shed now, so here are a couple of shots of the carnage! They missed three of the loco’s, only tank engines I’m afraid, and the rail motor. Thankfully they had no interest in the coaching stock. Apart from the locos’ the laser and a portable amplifier I had have gone and for some reason the large alloy box the trams are kept in. I have pictures of all but the latest locos added to the fleet (sorry Steve) Pauline and I will now start to make as complete an inventory as we can. Surprisingly the layout seems unharmed, they even lifted out one of the roof sections to get at the locos and carefully put it down next to the roof box. This could not have come at a worse time having the family here. At least my grandson did get some running time!" We would appreciate any assistance from our RMweb friends in tracking down the stolen items, which also include some 0 Gauge items out of a display cabinet and a Loco Headboard. We can't believe they have been targetted by an EM gauge modeller, and the thieves probably don't know they are not 00. They might have some unsatisfied "customers" if they try to move them on. We'll keep you informed of any developments when possible. Please send any information you come across to me as a PM on RMweb. Thank you, Steve Hewitt. Time passes................ It's now more than twelve months since I had to write the post quoted above. Here are a couple of photos to remind everyone of the sort of treasures that are still missing. Please keep your eyes peeled for anything you might see at an auction or the second hand stall at exhibitions etc. Thanks for all the support we have received over the last year as we continue to re-build our stock and look forward to regular operating sessions again. Popular Post Les Green
Another loco up and running on the layout. The black 5 was donated to us soon after the robbery. It is a DJH kit built model built to EM gauge. I modified the tender to house the DCC decoder, chip, and speakers. Wheels were upgraded to the latest Romford spec. Painted and lined by myself and weathered by Rob of the Lime Street team. 45 1 2
Popular Post Les Green
We originally had three Stanier Pacifics on the layout, all of which were amongst the stolen items. It is my intention to replace them with some kit built ones. Edited July 9, 2023 by Les Green 21 3
Popular Post Les Green
Here we go with two DJH tender models. The red bit inside the tender is a 3D printed cassette that will house the decoder, the speaker, and a large stay alive capacitor. These were completed in February this year. Popular Post Les Green
Now on to the chassis. The brake unit is a separate unit that is insulated from the loco wheels and body. This reduces the risk of shorts if the wheels touch the brakes for any reason. 16
Popular Post Les Green
The two chassis now becomes three chassis! I have always wanted to make a streamlined Coronation so now is the ideal time to build one. Ok the finished model is a year or two outside our layouts time line, but, hey, I am doing it! 25 5
Popular Post Les Green
So far I have fitted the DCC components in the tender. The thinking then was, as there is plenty of room in a streamlined body, the components would fit in the loco. At least then we can assess which location is best and is the bigger speaker in the tender better sound quality than the smaller one in the loco. 23

Les Green
The final update was to be a movie of the loco running on the test rollers. But is a 20Mb file and is over the limit for RmWeb and I have no way of reducing the file (Steve?). All three locos ran as good as can be expected at this stage. Since the roller test I have run them on the layout to assess the sound system. The speaker in the loco is probably the better location, but from a distance it doesn't make a lot of difference. The larger speaker in the tender produces a better sound quality in that the lower frequencies are better. At least with three pacifics the sound will be slightly different with the two speaker types. For the record we are using Zimo decoders. The tender speaker is a chunky boom box from Youchoos, and the smaller speaker is a double sugar cube, again from Youchoos. Next is the loco body building. 6 1

RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted July 9, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 9, 2023 The last streamliner was City of Lancaster which wasn't rebuilt until 1949 and actually got its BR number, so well within your time frame. 1

There is a wY of doing it in IIRC moviemaker. You need to save it in a different format that dumbs it down. I just can't remember the format offhand. Les Green
A short video of the very first test run of one of the three Coronations. Not all that smooth yet and I am not happy about the valve rod lifting a bit. Better running was achieved a few days later and will be even better when it is oiled after painting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHrYtt70e-c

RMweb Premium Barry O Posted July 10, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 10, 2023 the duchesses and princesses fitted with sound for Carlisle have the dcc chip and speakers fitted in the frames. (sugar cubes fit easily and are fitted to "bounce the sound" down into the track. Speakers in the tender means the tender is chuffing while the loco is silent...
