We know the sound is coming from the tender rather than the loco but it is not obvious when viewing the train or layout as a whole. The larger speaker in the tender gives a better quality of sound. I did think of putting a single cube in the loco as an extra speaker but that means eight cables between loco and tender.
RMweb Premium Barry O Posted July 10, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 10, 2023 Most have two..right under the chimney.the chip is in the frames at the rear of the loco (the pacific are stuffed with lead) good pickups negate the need for stay alive so the only wire from the tender are from the tender pick ups. Les Green
The tale of three coronations continues. The third of my three Coronations is a streamlined version. I need a bit of help here. The model is a Model Loco kit and the etches contain two small rings with four bolt heads etched on. The kit I am building has no instructions and I have no idea what these bits are or where they go. The full etch is for the streamlined version so I assume they will go somewhere. Anyone got any ideas, preferably with a photo? Also the picture of a streamliner shows a small vent. This is not part of the kit and I have a feeling an etch is available. Again anyone any ideas? The model is 00 scale EM gauge.

Loco profile no 37 has a works picture of 6225, with the caption commenting that the ventilation louvres were added to the 1938 batch of streamliners, and were therefore missing on 6220-4 (as built). So it depends what number you're modelling.
mswjr
Is the 4 bolt heads etch for the return crank, Seeing where they are on the etch, they have to be on the chassis some where and not for the body.

Found them on the top of the boiler behind the chimney. They are engraved on the boiler casting. I will leave them off as the thickness will be overscale and ruin the streamlined effect. Though you may be right about an overlay on the return crank and I will check the fit on the crank pin next time I work on them. Surprising there are no such etches in the non streamlined kits.

Popular Post Les Green
The tale of the three Coronations. I thought I may as well take a photo of the three completed locos prior to fitting the DCC components and painting. The next time they are all built up will be when they are fully painted. More photos of the construction will follow when individual locos are being worked on. 33 14

RMweb Gold Popular Post Steve Hewitt Posted September 13, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 13, 2023 Another step on the road to recovery........... John has just completed the conversion of another loco as we rebuild the fleet ready for regular running once again. This Fairburn 2-6-4T has been converted to EM gauge, completed running trials under DC control, weathered by Rob and then converted to DCC with sound by John. We will shortly have sufficient locos to run our previous schedule and we can all learn to use our version of DCC control. Some of us are getting impatient! RMweb Gold Popular Post Steve Hewitt Posted September 23, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 23, 2023 The wanderers return......... Or Miracles do happen............. First an apology for not posting this earlier, but you will understand the Police have been involved and we didn’t want to disturb their enquiries in any way. A few weeks ago the Lime Street Crew received this message from John: "Hi Chaps. Well look what came home tonight ! I can hardly believe it. Late this afternoon I received an Email. All it said was “Good evening please could you call me. “ Apart from this he gave me his phone number. At first I wasn’t sure if it was a scam, however I phoned him. Turns out he is a trader in second hand Model trains and toy cars. He lives at XXXXX near XXXXXXXXX and bought all the locos at a car boot sale at Bilsborrow near Garstang about two months ago. He found that they would not stay on the track (00), so wondered if they were stolen. Apparently he was able to trace our theft and somehow managed to find my phone number. He offered to come over this evening to check if the models were indeed ours. Guess what, they are all ours !! When I get over the shock I’ll have to rethink our way forward. Onwards & Upwards, John." As you can imagine, the whole team are over the moon. A couple of the returned engines have already been chipped and others will follow.......... Simond
Fantastic news. I do hope the trader (who should be praised for his initiative) was lucky enough to have paid by some means that identifies the seller. And further, I hope the local constabulary are able to make further enquiries. atb Simon
gz3xzf
Steve/John This is truly incredible that the collection stayed together, amazing that they found their way home. Such a boost for the group that the weeks/months hoping has been rewarded. I would go out and buy a lottery ticket before the luck runs out! 😁👍 2

KeithHC
Well what great news congrats to all concerned. Let’s hope the police can follow the trail further now and make an example of the individuals concerned. Keith ps. Are they all there or are some still missing. If so can you post details so that we can all keep a look out. Edited September 24, 2023 by KeithHC Addition
andytrains
This is great news. I hope the Police have the resources to follow this up. Problem with car boot sales are that no record is usually kept of the sellers attending. 2
