like the road/rail truck, but wouldn't it's tyres be sat on the rails to provide the driving force ?

Hi,

It depends on the machine, some use the tyres touching the rail to provide the force, which the machine modelled would, but some (like JCB type vehicles) use the tyres driving directly onto the rail wheels which move it along the track.
