fegguk
I had a cycle round Millerhill and Eskbank yesterday together with a trip up the A7. There is a diggers every couple of miles doing its thang. The highlights were Sherifhall to Shawfair work on the bypass diversion, and cuttings either side of the new link road Hardengreen excavating the infilled cutting, the old railway path is now out of bounds Falahill work seems to be starting on removing the hill for the new road over the railway, similar work at Heriot and Fountainhall. Tweedbank forming the carpark and access road It was quite difficult to get good photograph due to access restrictions And finally lorry crossing the Newbattle viaduct, I was eating chips at the time and the sun got in the way also ra polis were booking the car behind me in the lay-bye and the licence for my nodding dog had expired. RMweb Premium Legend Posted August 23, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 23, 2013 Borders rail link: Steam trains for tourists STEAM trains are to return to the Borders Railway, offering passengers an “unforgettable experience” when it reopens in two years. http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/transport/borders-rail-link-steam-trains-for-tourists-1-3057842 If true , and I'm not doubting the OP but sometimes politicians get a bit carried away, I think it would be an excellent move. It would encourage users to travel on the line and promote the Borders area , possibly attracting more residents/business. I note that the railway has already triggered a boom in house building in the area. Practically though, how would a steam loco be turned at Tweedbank, and if as I suspect, it cant be turned would it be permissable to travel back tender first , remembering the full journey should begin and end at Waverley. I know the Mallaig line does this, but not over heavy commuter routes. The other thing to be careful of is abstraction of revenue from Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway
'CHARD
I'll do my best to answer your questions shortly, Legend. For now though, here's progress at Gorebridge, that I'm still amazed to see. Despite the fact I know the rebuild is happening, I spent so many years checking out these locations, never imagining that it would, that such photos still stop me in my (Caterpillar) tracks.... http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete.php?id=44340 Sheriffhall; good to see road on the back foot for a while as the line's reinstated: http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete.php?id=44347
mr magnolia
I wonder how he managed to get onto the roundabout to take that Sheriffhall photo? re steam - I think I asked a question about that a while back (maybe on this thread) because I'd read something about the passing loops being too far apart to allow steam and 170s to mix, even on an hourly timetable. My guess at the minute would be a plan or an assumption by some that timetabled sunday services will be minimal or nil, and thus allow some steam? Dunno if that is likely to be real, but certainly for those of us who currently use the waverely 'stub end' services from Newcraighall, the current lack of sunday trains seems bonkers. Equally, the idea of relaying the route and NOT having steam on it seems bonkers...

'CHARD
Fountainhall, a long way both visually and in time, from the shots of the last weekend specials stood close by the Standard signal box. http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete.php?id=44482 ...and Tynehead, first station to close on that final weekend.
