Wow! You must of posted those comparison shots and thought 'yes I'm getting somewhere now'

Realy is turning into proper scale model of the real thing. I love the the iron work. Very well executed.

Hiya,

Thanks for your kind comments...........

I'm happy with the way the layout is going although work is currently stopped due to other hobbies taking precedence, namely my petrol driven monster truck.

Although I despise real 4x4's that have no reason to exist except to satisfy the 'intellectually baron' in our society*, I think the 1/8th scale trucks are great fun !

( * excepting farmers/boat and caravan owners/restoration projects/engineers etc with a genuine need to own an off road vehicle )

I hope to have some photo's of the layout again soon, as we have a fantastic new arrival in the fleet, 47 790 in EWS livery with snowplough's.......

More concerning right now though, is may latest purchase of the Dapol Silver EWS 67 and DVT boxed set..........in N Gauge !!!

What a fabulous model............it's annoying just how good N Gauge is at the moment..........I'm well chuffed that I kept the Kato test track after all.

That's all for now...........

All the best,

Dave

Well, if the BBC can do 'library pictures', then so can I............

This is the little beauty that I've just overhauled and rebuilt, currently undergoing test running. Yes I know it ain't a train, but I use this as an excuse for spending so many hours in my garden shed !

The only thing is..........my garden isn't big enough so it's off to the local dirt track for some doughnuts !

That looks fun, I must get my old tamiya hornet up and running again ....

I wouldn't mind, I only intended to replace the single brake disc and upgrade it to a twin ventilated type, and somehow decided to strip the whole car down for a jet wash and oil/grease change !

I'd recommend getting your Hornet up and running, I kinda miss the smell of nitro fuel...blink.gif

I'm thinking that tonight is going to be another Kato running night here for my new 67, the Monster Truck is gonna have all of my attention tommorrow ! yahoo.gif

I'm pretty sure I recall that one siding at Stewarts Lane right up against the Atlantic lines viaduct, i.e. on the eastern side of the site had sort of lightweight tram style overhead. Do you know what that was for?

I would assume that was the overhead power supply for the Class 71 electrics, a common feature in Southern Region yards such as Hither Green, Hoo Junction etc, to enable the groundstaff to work without the hazard of conductor rails to deal with, whilst coupling and uncoupling.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi,

Just a few pics of the Dapol 67 on my Kato test track, powered by a HM2000 controller from a Hornby VSOE train set......

The only thing to spoil proceedings was my CJM 67 running right alongside.......well..........that's not quite right as it's three times as fast as the Dapol one, it just kept lapping it.....

Absolutely great stuff in here. Can't wait to see the progress on it when you get chance.

The N gauge is looking good too. It's the same dramatic increase in quality that drew me into it as well. Maybe you could look into creating another Stewarts Lane in N along side the 00? laugh1.gif

Great stuff Dave. Keenly following this one. I've got many good memories of working into 'the Lane' back in the 80's. I can remember wandering round a couple of Deltics stabled in the old steam shed one night. Also, I spent an afternoon watching an engineer's crew firing up a steam crane. Great memories...

Regards

Stu

Never commented on Stewarts Lane before but have always admired it from when the thread first kicked off. I love modelling of real locations especially when there is no compromise, superb work.

Must ask though how them doors are coming along? Was toying with a similar idea of operating doors for a future project of my own (read future as in x years to come when I have the space!)

I'm really tempted by this idea.....but I don't think I can get the Pullmans in N gauge or a decent Clan Line, well, no difference to 'OO' gauge there then !!!

Sorry to say the doors are still waiting for some attention here, like the rest of the layout !!!!

There are just too many other distractions right now, thanks Mr Dapol !!!!!

hi, your layout is really a good insiration, even at this stage well done :D

one question, how thick was the plasticard you used?

dan

Hi Dan,

The 'plasticard' I have used for the floor is 2mm thick, to match the edge of the Peco pit modules that I'm using.

I obtained an 8ft x 4ft sheet of the stuff, which is actually called 'HIPS' when it is that big, purchased from a specialist company, this enabled me to have a single piece floor without any joins.

Thanks,

Dave

Good evening,

Just a quick update......

A new Pullman car, 99539 'Ione' arrived on shed today and it has to be said, this is one hell of a model that demands the 'white gloves' treatment !

Although it will need bringing up to date with a white roof, electrification flashes, Gresley bogies, and some underframe trussing, this 'Golden Age' model is just loaded with detail, including several kitchen sinks !

This model arrived in absolutely perfect condition, not damaged as shown in the post above.....and I didn't pay Golden Age prices for it either....... :locomotive:

Another recent arrival was 47 790, for VSOE workings in the area.....

The odd one out though, is the news that the humble Class 57 will be coming to Battersea Stewarts Lane, in connection with 'Snow Patrol' workings, details pending.....

57 307 'Lady Penelope' is shown after arrival, to be joined later by 57 306 'Jeff Tracy'....and hopefully later by a decent model of an Electrostar EMU ? Anybody listening down there in Margate ?

Hiya Mr Grimley,

I couldnt have put that better myself as it happens, Thankyou.

You are right, the depot was specifically made for my collection of stock, but this particular Pullman will be kept strictly under my pillow at night !

I've been watching your wheel lathe work........very pleased they took the Stew Lane one out.....that would just be more work for me.....

Nice coach Dave, when does the rest of the rake arrive??

Mmmm.......I think just a few more odd vehicles should do it, but the plan was to acquire these from the forthcoming Brighton Belle set.

If I can get anymore Golden Age stock for the same deal as this one, I can see another two or three coming here at least.

I'm being really good here and keeping the 'fleet' strictly representative of T&RS that I have worked with over the years, so everything is relevant in some way.

As soon as I can get some quality time on the layout again I will try to get some work done........probably in about eighteen years !!!! :scared:

That Pullman car and duff look very cheeky inside your shed!

I was thinking the other day that I would love to had a full rake of Pullmans and a filthy RES spoon at the sharp end!

Would it be sacreligious to weather those coaches as they look so beautiful?

Maybe a light dusting of rusty brown for brake dust?

Keep up the good work!

Trev

ps. Congratulations on your new arrival!

i have just had a thought about the way your using your fishplates as you said you didnt want any wires showing, you have come up with a great way of hiding it however... im not sure about other depots but i work at ramsgate depot in kent for southeastern and there are 2 "jumper cables" that "back up" the fishplates.

i will see if i can get a picture for you.

keep up the great work i lhave enjoyed watching this peice of art progress
