like the pics anyway phil, but the background details are interesting too

in the first pic, of 37012, you can just make out an ETHEL in the siding beyond the coaches and behind 37037 at Oban, there is the 'mexican bean' DMU

A few more loose images from the box.

We have a few images taken pre closure of the Forfar to Stanley Junction. One is certainly taken at Coupar Angus and feel the others are Forfar?

The two photos to the left in the group are of Coupar Angus. The top one is of the Up platform waiting room and the lower is clearly of the signal box & level crossing, this being the box just to the west of the station.

The middle photos are of Forfar, with the upper one looking west along the platforms and the lower looking north across the yard.

Very nice indeed.

Hi all,

You may have noticed elsewhere obn here that I am looking for photos of the Leith Pipe trains in the 1980's and both inbound and outbound services.

I've found a few on here, a few more on Flick'R plus some on SmugMug in addition to the ones on Paul Bartlett's wagin site.

I'm trying to create a typical rake of wagons for one of our layouts but need help to achieve a good result!

So - do an y of you have more and would be happy to share?

Thanks

few more "happy snappies" to add to the mix.

Firstly the open day at Perth was interesting but a short walk found TTO 23981 and RB 24080

Both currently in Loughborough.

Secondly we have a rail tour to Aviemore with 60009 Union of South Africa (even saw her at Crail as a child)

Lastly one of the Open Days at Haymarket

Last offering for tonight.

Early days at Strathspey Railway;

GNSR Lav Compo now moved and currently at Embsay

GNSR 6w full brake (not best image, pre arson attack that destroyed her) next to GNSR wagon and then NBR 1748 looking a sight better than the latest images on NBR Study Group website

I think D4 before moving to ?? and 46464 next to similar GNSR wagon (rather fancied having a go at full size restoration at one of these external frame wagons, especially as built a few 7mm versions in my time and think 4 at Strathspey)

5025 (currently under restoration as early Black 5) and LNER 1211 Sleeper 1st prior to move to Bo'Ness

Finally 828 after escape from Glasgow Museum of Transport and pre-restoration.

I don't think that I have added these photos taken by Dad in the mid-eighties

attachicon.gif37012 & 37088 at Fort William 13 6 85.jpgattachicon.gif

Great historical pictures, this one in particular interests me. I have in my record of west highland information that Morrisons store commenced construction in 1982. Given this is 1985 with no sign of the store I suspect my information is incorrect. Can anyone shed any clarity on when Morrisons was built?

I guess that you already know this, but Dad did record the DMU as 104-335. I have checked his log book, but he hasn't recorded the ETHEL. I guess he couldn't get a clear view through the carriages and diesels don't have smokebox numberplates.

I am pleased you found them interesting. I have double-checked Dad's spotting logs and the date given is the right one. I have been known to mess-up while processing the photos from the albums to the net.

The fort William chronology site quotes 1988 as when Safeway was built . Remember the morrisons name came a little later when they acquired Safeway in November 2005 .

May help .

Few more from the 80's

Firstly No 60 suspect ex Austerity with Lambton type cab in the early days at Strathspey Railway

Next we can definitely date as its Maude on the Santa Specials round Edinburgh Suburban. Don't recommend hanging out windows and taking photos. I did have timings for the run and some images from the day before as as chased between photographic spots, but they are currently AWOL

Can never have too much of a Deltic!

Down final run at Craigentinny and up final run leaving Waverley

Atmospheric shot of Grampian Deltic. Guessing Platform 10/11 Waverley.

Other 2 are the old goods sheds at Waverley.

Another? Where? I haven't seen any others than the one I posted. Glad you like it though.

Thanks

Actually it was on Facebook - I was tipped off there was a picture of 27108 at Kyle on there...shortly after I was seen parting with hard earned to purchase a Dapol class 27...

I knew they were rare on the line but its always good to demonstrate at an exhibition when asked why you have a 27 ;)

Just found and scanned a few B & W Photos from 1980/81.

I took several thousand photos around the time, but most negs were lost in a move. Only a few prints left to scan from, but I have a few hundred slides which need to be scanned at some point (when I have access to a slide scanner).

Enjoy!

The City Union Line, St Enoch approach in foreground.

My notes say '55012 Crepello at Waverley on a Newcastle Aberdeen service. 40 min late arrival after an engine room fire at Berwick. Replaced by 55007 Pinza for the rest of the journey'

No Guarantee that they are correct.

1981, I think.

Tganks, Waverley 47708, I just wish I still had all  my B & W Negatives. 5,000 I think, taken 1979-1982, mainly South side of the Clyde, but Eastfield, Helensburgh, the City Union Line and Stranraer all featured.

One more tonight, from the very early days of Bo'ness.

Looking back, I seem to have killed this thread stone dead.

Must be my new aftershave!

Here are a couple more:

Eastfield 1981-ish

post-89-0-22058000-1487109554.jpg

26th June '81 apparently, according to the notes on the back of the print. 5025 was running a shuttle out along the line towards Cumbernauld.  I was skint so couldn't afford to get on it.

I will keep looking for others.

Regards

Ian

I was there that that day, took loads of photographs, (or so I thought), had a Canon AV1 and unknown to me the film had not fully engaged in the take up reel.  Only got suspicious when the photo counter got to 38 (it was a 36 exposure), by then it was too late.  The shuttle ran as fan as the loops at Greenfoot Level Crossing, 5205 shared the duties with Maude, highlight of the day for me was the totally unexpected appearance of 44008 en-route to the Strathspey Railway, one of the few photos I got, as I changed the film shortly afterwards.

Queen St in the gloom, being added to by 27002, pedal to the metal for the climb up Cowlairs Bank with a train bound for Oban.

In those days we had real trains. Not as good as steam, but better than Sprinters any day.

And I got wet..... again.

Best regards
