Network Rail NMT Mark 3 coaches

The blanked windows don't look right to me. They look as if the glazing has been painted yellow.

Seems that they are as you said, just painted yellow...Also rather intrgued as to why Hornby have now started adding tinted glazing to the Mk3s, when er...FGWs Mk3s could have done with the Tinted glazing!

Hi, Livery application looks smart, but are they accurate??

NL

Where do I start? :stinker:

A couple of basic observations.

http://www.flickr.co...N07/5550849916/ shows 977995 with shallow windows fitted with grilles - and one of them is shortened. I think the roof vents are wrong also. 977995 is the nominated "spare" in case of fault/maintenance with the usual vehicles.

977996 has a modified underframe for use as the battery car with the hybrid "Hayabusa"

http://www.departmen...om/photo/977996 To my knowledge, 977996 only ever ran with the hybrid power car 43089 (it was semi-permanently coupled) and not with the two power cars that Hornby are doing.

http://www.departmen.../photo/977996-2 shows the other side with the grilles and blanks.

There is an extra grille on one end http://www.departmen...to/977996detail

The underfame gear has been removed, and I think it's quite ironic that the real 977996 is now owned by Bachmann and resides at Barwell!

I know I keep harping on about it, but I just wish that they would either make more of an effort, or just not bother. I also realise that some people will be happy with their 2+2 NMT..........

"Paint it yellow and put Network Rail logos on" and it'll be OK - but sorry no, not in my eyes.

Cheers,

Mick

I have to agree with you, the 31 was fairly easily sorted but if I'm to have the NMT I want the real deal

Are the power cars accurate or not??

I couldn't agree more, but in the absence of anything else, (resprayed Mk1 Network Rail coaches are getting a bit pricey), they will give my (as yet to arrive) class 31 something to pull pro-tem. :O

(This what I mean by pricey http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2649 )

Pricey it may seem, but how much time and material goes into a conversion like this. How much do you pay per hour for any other tradesperson ?

Consider that, and £100 can be a bit of a bargain for something unique

I see it's pre order rather than actually in stock at the moment and no they aren't 100% accurate but if it's flying round the layout and you are into the impression rather than detailing they'll do the job. You aren't going to get a fully researched and detailed model for effectively £22 a coach and they would be at least as much as the Pullmans and Gresleys. Yes I would pay double for a definitive version but as modelling time is sparse I will probably go for these if the power cars are 90% right.

Noooooooooooooo.......... These Mk3's are pretty much NMT/HST only - there are the occasional stock moves with them but these would also involve some form of barrier vehicle - probably a Mk2, as 977995/996 are only buckeye fitted.

With regard to the ebay Mk1 - that's one of a couple of coaches that were used as temporary buffer stops at Derby station, whilst it was being remodelled. At weekends, they were shunted into place on a couple of platform roads - the rest of the week, they were parked up round the corner. They weren't used as "normal" - if there's such a thing - test trains......................

I can see yellow (and pre-yellow) departmental/test stock on diesel era layouts going the same way as models of steam specials - as in any old kettle will do - in that anything yellow will do.

But hey, it's not my trainset :locomotive: !

Cheers,

Mick

No complaint intended, I fully appreciate that much time, skill and care that has gone into producing these models - I just wish I could afford to buy them!
