Whilst I haven't made any more progress on tbe layout in the last day or do, I have bern sorting out which fright cars will see service in the sidings at the Freemo meet.

Here are a few photos of some of them. Some will get a more weathering in tbe near future.

The two loaded centre beams have been detailed by one of our team, Mike

The McCloud box car is an old Athearn bluebox detailed but I do still need to cut off the moulded grab rails and replace them with wire.

Tonight I got the final bits of track down for the modifications. This new board s track has to but onto the existing track as I still intend to be able to put the juice factory onto the existing hoards at this end in future.

The isolated section of track is going to be the remains of a running line and will be partially buried in static grass.

The next stage is to wire up this new board.

Only two weekends left now before Freemo... Mustn't panic just yet.

With an old boxcar being used as storage sitting on it?

Look on both sides of the track here: https://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&ll=43.672005,-79.452153&spn=0.000784,0.0012&t=h&z=20

I'd suggest moving that isolated section of track somewhat. It needs a reason why it's abandoned, but left in place. The bridge might be the reason to re-align the track, a credible reason to keep it in situ could be it being used for storing track or turnout sections. Stack some short-ish sections of track on top and add a frog to the assorted junk laying around (tip: use one of the Proto:87 Store offerings ;) ) in the tall grass :)

A lot of track gets left in place, with just the switch removed - there are lots of examples around here (including the sections in the google link above). The credible reason is that it isn't worth the bother to lift it.

There is some track (lifted panels) hiding in nature here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/74702-cp-crane-and-trackwork/

Thanks for your suggestions. I very much agree with both views on the redundant track and can't really come to a Fi Al decision on it.

I suspect that I will leave it in place and if I decide that it isn't right I can then cover it with ties and old rail.

We will decide by Sunday morning as tomorrow will be a relaxing beer day.

Up early this morning and I have now ballasted the new boards track.

The ballast was touch dry before leaving home as it was so warm.

So the ballast should be set solid by the morning ready to carry on working on it.

As should have been at the GCR this weekend, today was an extra day working on the layout. Some new fascia panels fitting turnout solenoids and more noticeably scenic works although I did have to cut short as we went put to see our cousin from the US as he's flying back tomorrow ( he told us that Amtrak is building a new station in Niagra close to the bridge over to Canada- hadn't heard of this relocation)

Only the new end board has bare boards but that will Change one evening his week. Some photos of the progress.

Looking good. Apologies if I have missed it but are you planning on giving the suggestion that both tracks crossed the water at one time but when they renewed they singled it and put the concrete abutment in? Maybe the remains of supports on the bank?

Cheers

A little work was carried out on the layout htis morning, mainly weathering some of the new track and ballast so that it blends in with the existing, weathering the trestle and then painting some of the earth next to the ballast so its now ready for the Woodland Scenics and static grass to go on.

As long as it doesnt rain tonight I hope to get hte fascia panels in place on the new end board and then get the embankment formation in place next to the road bridge.

This is the board that needs the most work done on it including the corn syrup unloading and storage area.

Another CML DAC 20 turnout decoder is on its way to me so fingers cvrossed I can pick it up in the morning and install it tomorrow night.

Last night the three of the seven pairs of legs had the adjustable feet installed. They were straightforward to fit.

This morning I managed to get some of the new foliage in place around the roadway which was a quite satisfying half hours work. I now feel that real progress is being made towards final completion in tine for Freemo. Sunday should be another full days work on the layout.

A few photos.

The river is a bit dried out but I am hoping to get the resin in the next few days.

Another productive evening.

The new end board was set up so that the fascia panels could be matched up to the adjoining board and then the bridge abutments were added. Once this has set overnight foam can be added to form the embankments.

The next stage will be to get the bare areas of board covered and the syrup storage tanks constructed from a section of tube obtained from 4D models at lunchtime today.

Work continues with just a week to go before we load the layout into the car for Freemo.

Nothing particularly existing to show but I have been busy mixing filler with some black poster paint to bury the lumber spur into a try's mac surface. The space between the rails will get a piece of shaped plasticard set below rail level.

The mobile home will be used as a yard office.

Work also continues on the new board with the bridge abutments and embankment almost ready for foliage. The DAC20 and better power supply unit are waiting to be collected from the sorting office then they will be worked on Sunday to get all the turnouts working.

Edit - you can just see Banbury and Santa Barbara layouts stored under the extended height legs supporting Fort Myers - might have to do this modification to all the layouts legs!!.

I didn't get a lot done last night. However a bit more foliage went on the board with the trestle. This morning the river fed got its final coat of paint ready for resin pouring tomorrow.

The new board at the other end of the layout now has another section of redundant track. This will get an old box car or two nicely rusted up to represent those that are actually at the real Fort Myers and are / were the local model railroad clubs base with a layout in side.

The cement unloading point now has a canopy over the track but still requires more work before glueing into place.

It's been a busy day here on Fort Myers.

Starting at 5am this morning some base coats of paint were applied to the new board.

Then it was on to completing the eiring to the solenoids and bothbDAC 20s. Despite upping the power supply the DAC 20 won't throw teo solenoids so Inam going to try an 18v DC power pack when I can get one, hopefully in time for next weekend.

The fascia panels were also stained then it was tine yo pour done 'water' into the river then add the pontoon and airboat and now to let the mix set. It will go clear once it sets.

The final coat of filler is now in place around the cement unloading and lumber siding.

Still plenty to do during the week but we are nearly there.

Dan

I am also looking forward to the weekend, just a shame that Graham can't be with us, however Mikes cousin Yvonne, will be joining us instead.

Now that the water is clearing the wild life is returning. The water is still a bit soft this morning but that did help with putting the cranes nest back on the waters edge.

The alligators are basking in the fluorescent lighting 'sun' in the garage!!

This morning I started work on some of the existing and new road vehicles to be pinned and glued onto the layout. A number of the existing vehicles fell off when I started knocking the hell out of the boards to widen them. Amazing really that the rest of the vehicles stayed in place!

Note that the van drivers are on the wrong side of the road as they can't see where they are going.

We'll have it as part of a freemo set up at next year's ('15) Seaboard Southern show Ian - will have lots of room to fill at the new venue!

Dan

Can you confirm the date and will check that we are free that weekend

Tonight I tried the more powerful power pack which is 18.5/19 volts which is just about the maximum voltage that you can put into these. Slightly better but still won't quite throw two solenoids unlike the Digitrax DS64s.

S I am going to have to split these pairs up but I am probably out of time to do this now.

Other tasks tonight included refining all the existing trucks in place together with some new ones.

Finally some more reeds have been fixed the river banks.

Photos to follow in the morning.
