Thankfully they seem to have got the typefaces right for the numbers on this. Yes it should be simple yet they often get it wrong. The front lights don't look quite right to me though, hopefully they're looking at that area before release.

Hi

Any updates to the layout recently?

Phil

Phil

No updates as such as the layout has been boxed up since the Alton show in early February.

However osme good news in that our late friend's  N scale stock box has been passed to us by his family. In it is the scratch built laser structure inspection train that he built. the laser car is scratch built with a working light for the laser.

Also ballast wagons, an NR 31 and 37 etc.

So it will be great to be able to continue running these on the layout in memopry of him. We did miss out on obtaining the HSTT train with the coaches that he built as that was sold at acution with other N scale items in that lot that we failed to successfully bid for but at least we have the majority of his N scale items that were modified by him. We do have a photo of the naming ceremony of the Southern 73 after him pinned to the back of the layout that we were fortunate to attend along with other friends and family.

The next outing for Banbury is Rotarail in Fareham in March 2016

Good to hear that you got the stock box. Shame about the HST.

Will be good to help run layout again at Rotarian in April.

It's now just under three weeks until Banburys next outing at rota rail in Fareham. Looking forward to operating the layout again.

Here's a link to the layouts section of the rotarail web page. A good lineup this year, if nothing else it includes Banbury.

This year rotarail is raising money for a Winchester based children's hospice. Details As show below in the rotarail's picture

Its just about a week and a half before the layout heads to Fareham. I haven't had chance to do anything to the layout since its last show back in February but this week and weekend I should start looking at the stock at least.

I have quite a few ready wired Surface mount LED's to start fitting to various items of rolling stock. I have soldered replacement SMLEDs to HO stock so now getting the hang of using these great little lighting accessories.

First to be tackled is the 3D printed NR rail grinder.

Another task is to check our late friends structure gauging train locos etc to see if they run OK as they were last used over two years ago before he went into hospital, so they may need lubrication.

The layout has quite a few shows this year and next year so plenty of tasks to do including getting block detection working at some point.

P.S. Phil - see you in a week and a halfs time.

. The rail grinder has been around for a while but the lights will make a big difference.

Ah it's the one you've already got. Lights will be great.

The structure gauging train will be really good to see running.

Only a few days to go for Banburys first outing in some months. Just a one day show at the Rotarails show in Fareham.

Yesterday morning I serviced our late friends locos. His old style Farish class 31 had developed a clicking and as expected it was a split gear. Luckily he had bought some spare wheelers so once I found he culprit, it was swapped out. I took the opportunity to add headlights to this loco and fit an Easi shunt coupler in place of the Rapido on the rear. The same was done with his other locos using he bag of these Dapol couplers that he had in the box to do just his.

The coupler change will allow them to be used on other stock. A couple of roofs on his structure gauging train had bowed so these were refixed in place.

Finally a few of his wagons have had an Easi shunt coupler added so to allow other locos to haul his permanent way train if for any reason that his class 66 plays up.

It will be good to now be able to run his stock again and in memory of him spending many hours working the layout at shows till a couple of years ago.

I spent a good part of the day wiring not up the lights on the Rail grinder and they were working fine but after adding paint or the light holes in order to stop light bleed through the body then fixing the LEDs in place, the only place the lighti isn't shining is through the light holes. I will have to have another go at it tonight.
