That's probably my post and my spell check getting in the way. Should read FNA It's a nuclear flask wagon run by Drs it can be occompanied by escort coaches depending on circumstances.

They don't normally run via Banbury but my excuse is that the normal route is blocked and I just fancied the Farish locos Wagon etc.

Genuine question - is trying to keep up to date with the real thing an enjoyable part of maintaining this layout? It's an absolute stunner and the thought of ripping bits up would horrify me - but I guess it keeps it fresh, especially with doing as many exhibitions as you guys do. Or will you be leaving it as 2011 as per the thread title?

I am not updating the layout with new track and signalling as the semaphores are part of the appeal.

One day I might back date it to 80s or 90s but that's a way off at the moment.

What I may do in August is wire up the block detection depending on the number of free days that I have spare.

Ian,

I'm hoping to have one full train, and a DMU completed before Barnstaple.  If I do could they come along for a day out?  :)

Cheers,

Paul

Paul

You are very welcome to give them a run in North Devon.

Ian

Just a few days before we load the layout into the car and head to the Greta central Railway for their three day show.

Of recent the two touch screen PC's used for controlling and checking the turnout positions using JMRI have been a bit sluggish and occasionally crashed, one being due to it running XP and no longer supported by Java which JMRI uses.

So yesterday these two touch screen PC's were updated to Windows 10  and running fine with JMRI panels. In fact both are running a bit better than they did with 8.1 on one of them and XP on the other . Extra ram is also on its way to me and I hope to fit before the show.

A few other alterations include new magnetic boards on which we put the loco numbers that are in each storage road. These will be in a new position on the layout so fingers crossed this will work out better than the current large ones positioned on the end of the fiddleyard fascias.

As we are now into summer there is a new ice cream van to place on the layout. :sungum:

Ice cream never lasts long in our house whatever the size.

See you there on Saturday. We've never visited gcr before and we thought it would be a good weekend to visit it.

Its a nice line and the show is big. Just be careful not to empty your wallet.

You are welcome to leave your bags behind the layout (and have a session on the layout if you have time) . Not sure where in the marquee we are situated though.

Hopefully, not underneath where the birds poop overnight! :nono:

Remember what happened to Coppull last year? :jester:

We have our polythene protection (new packs) to cover the layout as per last year but hopefully they have filled the gaps  for this year

Phil

Well, if you do you know where to come.

Tonight the RAM was in the post so both touch screen PC's have been taken apart and an extra 1GB added to each of them. They can only take 2GB max but it's made a noticeable improvement in speed. The next task will be to add SSD drives as they can be had for under £40for128GB these days.

Fingers crossed these two PC's will perform better than usual this weekend.

Back to working on the layout tomorrow before loading it into the car.

If I spot a loco that is reasonable enough and suitable I'm am looking for a dummy loco to go in the back of my gbrf staff train. Hopefully there will be something there that will fit the bill.
