Is CC actually a porn shop? Asking for a rather dodgy 'friend' - with no front teeth!

I detest the autocorrect or predictive text thing you get on mobile devices - how else can you explain Cash Converters being a “porn shop”?!

I believe that is an entirely different type of establishment!

There’s quite a few “pawn shops” around our area, including the old CC.

A few years ago, my sister had her tenor horn stolen from her car boot. She was pretty cut up about it, and immediately decided to visit the local pawn shops to see if it had been pawned with any of them.

First shop she went to, CC in Bolton, she says she’s interested in playing a trumpet and did they have any in? (She was being clever and acting a little dim to ensure no suspicion!) The guy in the shop goes ‘You’re in luck, we got a trumpet in yesterday’ and proceeds to show her her own tenor horn! (Fair play to him, both are in the brass instrument family but did he not know what a trumpet looked like 🎺 and a horn looks totally different). She says she’ll think about it and goes straight to the police to report her horn stolen and that she had also located it! They asked her were there any distinguishing features and she said yes, there was a repair patch on the second valve tuning slide, and the case had a little plaque with her name on it.

Policeman went with her to the shop, asked to see the instrument, they brought it out (this time with the case) and lo and behold it matches her description. The policeman asks her if there’s any other way she can prove it was hers (this was before phones with cameras/Internet so she couldn’t show him a photo of her with it) - she popped the mouthpiece in and promptly played a solo piece she had been working on!

Much embarrassment on part of shop, who promptly gave up name of the guy who brought it in, the police said something about needing it as evidence and my sister said she had the National Competition Finals in a weeks time so they took photos of it and let her have it!

About a month later the scrote involved was in court, and her horn was a star witness (so to speak) as it was so unusual an item to steal and pawn that he couldn’t deny it!

I'm told it's a Good Book, but I don't know as I haven't read it either.

I read it all the way through, I thought it's a suspense thriller, with a bit of a revelation at the end....

I thought autocorrect was based on your previous usage?

Just sayin'!!

I didn't know Richard Maunsell designed air-smoothed Pacific locomotives!

Edit: This looks to be a brilliant deal, £9 for the BoB kit (of a much higher quality than the more recent Dapol ones), I might consider buying if it stays up for long enough, shared for the incorrect item name rather than the item itself!

Never sure if it should be under 'romantic fiction' or 'fantasy'.  The guy* who wrote Revelations was on some pretty bad acid, though!  I mean, have you read  that thing...

*John the Apostle, John the Revelator, or John of Patmos, it is not properly known which one of them penned the book, or if they are the same or different people.  The Apostle John's gospel is pretty metaphysical in content as well, which matches Revalations; bloke was clearly out of his gourd with or without chemical assistance.

I read the O.T. as far as them endorsing slavery and demonising women and thought - Nope!*

But it does make you realise why they murdered the hero in part two.

*Interchangeable with the other Abrahamic religions.

“O gauge”

Is that not the HO one? The O gauge model was loco driven, HO being tender drive.

As its got tension lock couplings, I'd be inclined to say it's HO, the O gauge loco had Hornby Dublo style couplings.

Well our previous Prime Minister is off to the US and he'll be much missed in Australia - not. Scott Morrison was interviewed about whether he regretted disappearing on a family holiday in Hawaii, while Australia had huge bushfires - his view was that the whole story was overblown! The Acting PM even covered up that the PM was not in the country.

I should have spotted that, the straight coupling rods are a give away. The 0 gauge version has cranked coupling rods to give sideways clearance for the centre wheels.

This is a suspicious one : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/404758859380?

"Appears 100% complete. 100% original. In very good condition, some light chips/marks to original paint. Axles/wheels are straight. Untested but see no reason why it should not work. Clean and bright."

It is a pity about the missing tender coupling. The strangely bulging cab roof and partially pulled tabs that are indicative of a possibly broken spring. Could that be a reason for it being untested?

It looks like someone stood on it!

Here's another woeful Hornby O gauge clockwork loco

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335219403996

Again, rather bent around the cab end, and if that's in fair condition...

I like the optimistic claim that its "Power Type" is AC, unless the vendor imagines that means All Clockwork! 🤣

The more vintage O gauge listings I see, the more I remember I need to offload my stuff, a decent amount of track (tubular 2 rail stuff, with a single 3 rail straight segment), all old and rusted, enough for an oval, or a figure-eight if you get creative with it, a loco and rolling stock of Mettoy origin, got it all a couple years ago and it simply hasn’t seen any use, since I don’t have the space for anything O gauge, at most it’s been put up on the bedroom floor one or two times.

I’d list it on the ‘bay but I don’t know how much it’d cost to ship, haha.
