The Fall & Rise of the 60's ( was The End of the Tugs?)

Recommended Posts

Much froth was had on Thursday 28th as Army 60040 worked 6C02 Crewe-Carlisle and 6K05 return (passing within 30 feet of my back door). My local gen-group had reports every 10 mins, or so it seemed! Pity I couldn't arrange my work around getting a phot of it. :(

Any date as to when 007 will be in traffic?

Cheers,

Mick

Past 10' from my signal box :D :D

Slight delay in posting this due to lack of broadband since Tuesday, and a power cut all day today...

A 60 approaching Ram Hill (or the former Coalpit Heath station if you prefer) at about 3:50pm on sunny 3rd May

Slightly shaky due to not being prepared for it! Just manged to get the camera out and pointed in the right direction as it throbbed by.

60 011 first visit to Teesside in it's new livery working a very short 6V02 Tees Yard to Margam passing sad remains of TE.

It had previously worked up light engine from Rotherham after release from Toton. Friday the 13th clearly not unlucky here in the NE

Not sure if the the Westerleigh will run tomorrow (today?) as it doesn't always on a Saturday, but 6B33 is 60099 again if anyone's out and about

cheers

Sources:

"60013 (WCAI) en route Toton looks terminal with reports that like 60081 it has redistributed the internal parts of its engine onto the outside."

That's incoming from an I-phone but has all the hallmarks of a WNXX news report.

After a year and a half of this topic, I couldn't find this question (I tried searching), but I did find one or two youtube comments that agree with me...

Is it generally acknowledged (in the rail-fanpress, or even by the general public) that the Class 60s look rather 'angry' anthropomorphically? If so was there any thought to repositioning the offending windshield wipers? (Alhough, if you reversed their direction but kept them top mounted, the 60s might simply looked 'surprised' instead.)

^^^

To be honest with you, in the 20 years that I have known the class 60s, I have never noticed the position of the windscreen wipers and their anthromorphically angry look! They were not conspicuous.

I know what you mean, although one of the cabs of 60085 has the windscreen wipers always facing the sides of the windscreen. The same was said about the grids, the horn grill gave them a 'mean' look.
