The Fall & Rise of the 60's ( was The End of the Tugs?)

Recommended Posts

Go on then, I'll join in the classic Tug love in!

Linked from my Flickr if you want to browse it big.

60019 6B13 Westerleigh Village

60019, the first 60 to gain EWS colours, rolls along the Westerleigh branch, seen about to pass under Westerleigh Road in the middle of the village. 6B13 is nearing journey's end, with another train of fuel from Robeston for Westerleigh Oil Terminal. Being the first of the class to gain the new EW&S colours in 1996, Tug 19 uniquely had the reflective yellow stripe wrapped round onto the front of the loco and the cabside air vents painted EWS gold. Amazing to think that in this 2009 photo, the livery was already 13 years old!

60026 light engine at Coedkernew on 15/07/02 (my photo)

Beautifully clear photo. I have that one from Hornby… in fact it was EWS that got me interested in trains once more back in 96 when I saw freshly painted 60019….last time I’d looked everything was blue or large logo !

I had that, too, but it's long gone as I'm N gauge these days!

I had a couple of OO-gauge Class 60s from Hornby as well for a brief period before I decided to switch scales. I'm currently waiting in anticipation for the TT.120 versions to materialise.

The daily lunchtime Network Rail train from Doncaster to Tyne Yard is very varied. Today the power of the 60s hauls a single, empty Mussel. One for the minimalist modeller.
