talisman56
IFAIR 'C7' was carried by the parcels and/or newspaper train that came down the Brighton main line in the afternoons... The fact that the EDL still has its E-series number and the VEP in the East Coastway platform at the rear of the picture is in Blue/Grey livery would point towards 1971-72 for the date of that picture. RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted August 30, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 30, 2014 That particular track at Norwood Junction has been out of use for many years now. There are even track segments stacked on it just about where the class 25 was.

eastwestdivide
more pictures please! OK then... Last days of the Hastings units (1): 1985, and the direct line between Hastings and Tonbridge was blocked for a while for electrification. Some services ran through from London to Hastings via Ashford, with headcode 20 rather than the usual 22, including this on the down through lines at Tonbridge. In the sidings on the left is a Reading-based DMU, which were running the Redhill line services then. Last days of the Hastings units (2): 1986: the third rail is installed, and the line singled through one of the tunnels. I think this is just S of Tonbridge. A couple of years earlier, end of 1982 start of 1983 I think, Tonbridge in the pouring rain:

Bert Cheese
Nice pics Andy, In the first one though it looks like 33056 behind 33023 to me though, rather than 33207 which would look skinnier being a slim version? Not sure when 33207 received 33027's plates but both locos appear to have the normal solebar/body profile in that shot.

You are quite right they are both 33/0's.......and the second is 33056.... serves me right for not checking.
Bert Cheese
A few quick scans from Eastleigh depot, my notes are long gone due to the folly of youth unfortunately but I believe the last two pics were taken on a separate visit to the others. 33065 & 33008 on a typical summer Sunday morning at Eastleigh in the 1980's An unknown 73 alongside 50048 & 56064 The view from 56064's cab Withdrawn 33054 and a couple of others Strange resident 25181 which failed on the Coastway Crusader railtour, and eventually left the depot in Vic Berry skips... The Lurker
Like the pictures of Tonbridge - I was travelling to and from school in Tonbridge at that time (78-85), and remember the Hastings units thundering through Tonbridge on through down trains. Bert Cheese
Here are a few more from me with a slightly different perspective...a day out with my Dad on a cross country around 1986 I'd say. I often done the Reading to Bournemouth/Poole leg of these trains, though going the other way I'd bail out at Basingstoke as getting off the engine at Reading during the changing ends procedure without being spotted by a WR inspector could be tricky...the old SR/WR emnity still being evident... Apologies for the less than perfect scans from prints, somehow a few specks of dust have found their way under the glass in my scanner too. (The dirty windscreens don't help either ) Full chat through the Hampshire countyside Departing Winchester Approaching Eastleigh with the Chandlers Ford line off to the right Exiting Southampton tunnel...my scanner never took to this print as I'd like Emerging into the daylight at Southampton Central Meeting an ED at Brockenhurst

RMweb Premium Grampus Posted January 27, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 27, 2015 Evening all, I have been having a canter down memory lane this evening as I experiment with my new scanner ( - it's only taken me 7 months or so to work up enough courage to get it out of the box and fiddle about with it: who needs instructions after all?! Ah...) Thought the attached might be of interest: all were taken at Salisbury during the summer of either '83 or '84, though sadly I cannot be more precise ( - perhaps somebody on here might be able to provide more info?) Wish I had thought to make some detailed records at the time. Wagons were a lot more interesting then! Best wishes, Paul

That looks like the DInton trip going out and coming back in pictures two and six. As to the date, someone may recognise the Exhibition Train in the first picture which may give a clue? cheers

eastwestdivide
...Are they Tarmac hoppers in the first photo? ... I'd say yes. They worked Westbury/Hothfield (near Ashford, Kent), and another Tarmac set worked from Leics to W London (Hayes?)
