Started work on the K10 again starting with the plunger pick-ups from Premier Components they are really tidy and not too hard to fit, the chassis runs really nice, will add some extra pick-ups in the tender.

 

The two pictures of the old bus were the only pictures l took at Bristol as l was too busy doing the trade stand and lots of chatting....

Looks tidy George. What motor gearbox combination are you using?

 

Hello Peter, The motor is a mashima with 40-1 gearbox from Premier Components, l always use bills motors as they are reasonably priced at £45 plus £5 for the fly wheel...

After some major changes in the building of my K10 l am now back on track at last, and now have a running chassis, also l have made the bogie just have to file some more off the chassis for the wheels to turn, l rebuilt the side splashers and l think they look much better, on the smoke box front there was a plate that covered the front end but not on all of them as l have since found out ?, so my loco is without the plate...

Hi George, 

 

That chassis looks great.  On the subject of the smokebox wingplate, as far as we can deduce, they were all built with it.  Photographic evidence suggest that the wingplates were removed when the locos were repainted in wartime black, 1938 onwards.  Certainly all the photos I've seen of them in lined SR livery have the plates, and in plain black they don't.  Not conclusive I know, but a pretty good guide.  Even Bradley doesn't commit to this!

I'd stick with BR Black to match your other Stock AND make life easier on the Build and Painting.

Thats what l thought until yesterday, we went around an O gauge club members house yesterday and he got a Schools class out in Southern lined green Woooooooooooooow that was it l was hooked, so l  bought a Northstar kit he was selling, expensive but very nice, so thats my summer project in the bag...what am l like Hahahahahaha....

Did they come in any other colour.

 

Hello Peter l believe they were all Southern lined olive green with white lining in the early days with the front plates on, but during the war they were painted all over black and had the boiler front plates removed, as l say l am NOT 100% sure that ts true ?

Sorry Bob Southern lined green with Southern on the tenders with large numbers...

 

Oh well George you can't win them all - I tried - They always looked the business to me in Weathered BR Black.

Been busy with the K10 and have almost finished the loco, l must say it has been an interesting build so far with lots of searching for information and pictures also some help from Dave (DLT), but l have got there in the end ( l think) the tender is quite long and a bit of a challenge with the flared sides, hopefully l will give her a good run on the test track at the clubs meeting at High Lane this Friday ?....

Had a great afternoon out and met some great guys at the Birkenhead O gauge railway clubs open day yesterday, l loved love the large oval of tracks with four lines, with a centre goods yard, the inside two tracks were DCC and the outer were DC, thanks guys great visit....

Glad to say that me and Mark owen have finished the L&Y 0-6-0 Rapid shunter at last, we have been building it together for the past two months, it had a really good run at the open day yesterday and found out that the real loco used to shunt in Liverpool docks....

Hi George how is the K10 going

 

Big problems with the K10 l decided to run some super-glue around the rear cab splashers and left it to dry, when l got the loco out for a run at the club on friday the wheels and motor were locked solid, found out the glue had run down all over the back wheels and set solid, so a strip down was needed, glad to say all is running now.....
