Well I'm not having any of the problems mentioned , but that may be because I still

have'nt had the e-mail . :scratchhead:

I think there may be some spam filtering by BT involved as there's a number of recipients who emailed me who are in a batch (sent at 10.04 yesterday) all with the same ISP.

Andy,

I recieved my email at approx 20.00 last night but no links worked.

I got access by inputing the address for Mi5 into the browser and downloaded the PDF ok.

This morning after restarting the computer everything worked fine, all the links linked correctly!

Great content, thanks for your help

Cheers

Pete.

Andy

Following our exchange off line yesterday, I had another go at downloading today and the .pdf format version successfully downloaded in a mere 15 minutes! Is this par for the course - or am I just a bit behind the times?

If others are having the same problem, would there be some benefit in breaking MI up into smaller bite sized chunks - 36 pages a month rather than 72 pages every other month? I appreciate that there may be an overhead to each edition and that the production effort may not simply be in proportion to the number of pages, but it might be more digestible on the downloading end. Anything that is so image intensive (which is what MI does brilliantly) will always result in some pretty large files and MI is clearly testing the boundaries of our (alleged) broadband service.

On a slightly different issue, I am delighted to see that Pempoul will feature shortly. There are some fascinating non-UK layouts appearing in RM Web and it would be very sad if MI were to be constrained to British railway modelling. We should be looking for Modelling Inspiration worldwide - and from any period.

Best wishes

Eric

I'm happy to say I can access the download PDF of my nexus 7 tablet, yes the reader is shockwave flash that's why my tab won't open the reader, adobe has abandoned flash for all future android releases (although if you know how, flash can be added and used with nexus 7 on a non stock browser).

Sorry Eric but a half strength WiFi to tablet connection downloaded the pdf in about 20 seconds.

Well I dont know where it's going then , I've checked the BT Yahoo mailbox and there is nothing in the spam box ,

all other e-mails are coming through with no problem . :scratchhead:

I use Outlook Express as my reader configured to collect from the BT box .

Some ISPs do filter out content they think is spam before it even gets relayed on to the end client Mike so it may not have even got that far. It's where they put the stuff you want whilst sending you the Nigerian Paypal Viagra stuff. :)

I dont even get that .

When I was with Sky I used the same system I use now , I could go to the Sky site and find the spam

box full of things , but the BT or Yahoo site shows nothing at all in spam . If it appeared in there I would be

happy as at least I could retrieve it , it's this ' not knowing ' that annoys me .

Ho hum , looks like I'll never get the chance to win that loco .

Yay, for some reason, all the links and pics in the email now work. I'm impressed with:-

  1. the modelling shown in the links
  2. the fact that I don't have to work my way through all the threads and blogs on this wonderful forum to see such excellent models

Thanks, Andy

Andy, I get the same problems as Chris reported in post 156, but with the Firefox equivalents of his IE messages. I'll wait and see how it is tomorrow.

Dave

All working fine today.

Too big to fit the screen and jiggles around if you so much as look at the mouse

You can avoid the mouse judders on the Flash version by putting the mouse to one side and navigating using the arrow buttons on the keyboard. Left-Right to change pages, Up-Down to zoom in-out. You must click the page at least once before these keys will work.

For those who prefer the PDF version, I recommend the free PDF-XChange Viewer from: http://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-viewer

n.b. Flash is not supported in the Metro* version of Windows 8, released next month.

*strictly speaking, "the version of Windows 8 formerly called Metro".

Martin.

I've still not received the newsletter. I've looked in my ISP's spam folder which over the years has contained some important emails but not this time. I registered for the newsletter over three months ago. Model Railways Live newsletters arrive each month without problems.

Andy: An email was sent to you from my email address on 13th September as per your request.

I believe the issue in your specific case was two conflicting logins which is/are being resolved. I'll forward over a copy of the email.

Can anyone help? Stubby47 tells me that my layout, The Shed, is layout of the month in the RM Web newsletter. I have tried to locate this without success. I have registered with model-railway-live and ticked the interest box for the rmweb. By my reading that should be all that is required, but I must be missing something, as I am no further forward. Help would be appreciated.

Rob
