monkeysarefun
These guys just love getting into your car and appearing from nowhere suddenly at 100km/hr. This one was not too bad because a) at about 4 inches legspan he was just a little guy, and b) he appeared from places unknown to dash down my arm and then sit on the instrument panel rather than hiding behind the sun visor to scare the poo out of me when I fold it down and there's a massive spider about 6 inches from my face like usually happens. RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted September 23, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 23, 2022 Not 'close' but close enough! As I approached the Exceat bridge on my walk back from Cuckmere Haven, I heard a light aircraft flying low coming towards me. I was too late to get a photograph of it. Almost immediately I heard the honking sound of geese flying in the same direction and then this sight greeted me. There were at least twice this number, by the time they had all flown by.

monkeysarefun
Blue-tongue lizard that lives under a tarpaulin in my front yard. At around 40cm long, fully grown they can reach 60cm. Seeing just their heads sticking out from under something makes the heart skip a beat before you realise its just a lizard.
RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted October 4, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 4, 2022 I posted these in the abandoned rails thread, but they may be of interest here, Husvik in South Georgia, mid-90's when I worked for British Antarctic Survey.

pH
We live on one side of a stretch of woodland, and a son and family live on the other side. There are coyotes live in the woods, but are pretty elusive. However, son got this picture of one trotting through their back yard. Looks pretty well fed (‘Missing pets’ posters are fairly common around here!). Only one patch of mange visible - some can look quite tatty. 10 1
Jeff Smith
In a neighborhood we lived in in Atlanta, we thought we had a mother fox and her cubs living under our deck.... Actually turned out they were coyotes. 3 1
RMweb Premium 03060 Posted October 30, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 30, 2022 (edited) I managed to disturb this Heron yesterday in the edge of one of my local ponds, obligingly it lifted itself up onto a perch so that I could get a good look at him .... and he of me ! RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted November 15, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 15, 2022 (edited) A late visitor - actually there were two, but they wouldn't stay in the same spot long enough to have a joint portrait taken. This was tricky enough as there was a fair breeze blowing. Edited November 15, 2022 by phil_sutters 9

monkeysarefun
Fruit bats... lots and lots of Fruit bats. Flying over the local shops last night from wherever they roost in the day (I assume either the banks of the river or the local native botanical gardens) off to wherever they feed at night. They were flying in an endless stream when we arrived, and still flying past at least 20 minutes later when we left...
