Waverley Route new image links and discussion

Some good new stuff there.  All three contain some useful detail.  D5069 is really leaning to the curve as she waits time on 2S52.  The Border Counties track geometry is to die for, and the intimacy of 64G is almost indecent.

The one that Robert Carroll has posted on his Flickr was one of the recent ones for sale on ebay, complete with copyright - I managed to get one of D5314 at Hawick and have currently got a bid in for another of D5069 at Galashiels.

The Riccarton one was on E Bay as well.

Thanks for adding this one Dave, It shows a Peak at St Boswells with Station Master George Mitchell closing the carriage door and my father Alec Burrell behind him, The train would be the 10.5am Edinburgh Waverley to London St Pancras and the BRCW Type 2/Class 26 on the 09.20 Carlisle to Edinburgh Waverley.

Just had my latest ebay purchase, Cinerails  "Railways of Scotland Vol. 2 - The Waverley Route" VHS (cheaper than buying the DVD and it still works!) drop through the door.  For someone who is too young to have experienced the Waverly route as a working line its an enjoyable watch.

Lots of useful modelling inspiration, just a pity that the camera operator was on the Lady Victoria signalbox side as they went past!

Some more new images have appeared on Flickr, two on the platform side at Hawick http://www.flickr.com/photos/96859208@N07/9351603601/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/96859208@N07/9351603601/ and my favourite of the roadside to the station, I have not seen a view as close up as this before http://www.flickr.com/photos/96859208@N07/9351601705/

Kind regards

That view from the approach road is beautiful.  Love the Scottish Region blue 'socks' on the pillars, totally signature touch.

On the second platform view you can see the white gates from Dovemount Place to the station yard.

Those photos completely encapsulate the station as I first remember encountering it.  Within a year it would be swept away.

The awesome resource that is RailScot turns up another classic.

BR blue full house, Saturday 7th December '68 at the Citadel.  D5312 is about to take out the 1.0pm 2S52, as D409 arrives from Perth and D53 prepares to tackle the GSW with its Leeds - Glasgow.

i am steadily working on the buildings for my model of stow which has finally been started. i have good photographs of most of the major buildings such as the good shed and station buildings etc but, there is one group of buildings on my map that i have no clue about. they are line side which means that there are only so many things that they can be but most of the photos i have are taken from the north end and don't show the buildings in question. does any rmwebber have an idea as to the company or purpose of these buildings.

the buildings in question are circled in red.

I think calling D409 Conqueror is a tad premature!

I'm thinking there's a possibility, I'll put it no stronger, that this is for livestock handling.  The small enclosed field with visible boundary, and the hard to access stub siding adjacent to the two structures makes me wonder if it's a loading dock for sheep or cows.  Horses would I think have been loaded from the main passenger platform as was normal NB practice (someone correct me if I've read my W/T/T notes wrong!).  Looking again at the track layout, I think it may be unique among Waverley goods yards.

Not really 'new' discussion, but there has been some minor progress on the possibility of extending the Waverley Route to Hawick:

...oh and also tourist trains are to transverse the route once more!
