RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted September 26, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 26, 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk...t-arts-19729630 A singer I remember from my childhood days in the 1960s through to today really. RIP Andy - one of the greats Moon River, wider than a mile I'm crossing you in style, some day
10800
Indeed, an almost unique voice which had a timbre to it which I can't describe other than being almost bell-like (?). I say almost unique because the only other singer who had a similar quality for me was Steve Winwood in his prime. If anyone can explain exactly what they had please say! So RIP Andy, I forgive you for introducing us to the Osmonds, and I hope you have plenty of cookies up there to give to that bear.
RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted September 26, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 26, 2012 Quite shocked by this, even though he was getting on a bit. He was one of my dad's favourite singers, and I had to put up with countless renditions of Andy Williams' songs from dad. Anybody remember the classic interview with Michael Parkinson when they discussed cricket balls...? Jeff
Xerces Fobe2
He had not been in the best of health for a number of years; another music icon reaches the final note RIP XF
Horsetan
He was the man who, more than any other singer, represented The Big Easy. His brand of music was effortless, and transported you back to the Sixties every time you heard it, even if you hadn't been born then! Music to watch girls by. chrisf
Most of his material was not at all my style but in 1970 he issued "Can't Help Falling In Love" as a single. I can't remember now what kept it from No. 1 but it sounds as fresh and relaxed today as it did then. I would take it to my desert island. Andy M
Sad news indeed. I loved listening to 'Nandy Willams' as a kid and enjoy his clear tones to this day. Gone to the Bamboo House in the sky! RIP
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted September 26, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 26, 2012 "No milk! No cookies! Not ever! NEVER!" His weekly riposte to The Bear on the Andy Williams Show circa 40 years ago.

Ceptic
Another of the Andy Williams' Show's catchphrases,.... "Yu'rrr weirrd Andy" (I can't remember who uttered it)*. We, at work, had a boss called Andy. I said this phrase to him, once, and got the most threatening of looks, so, better not mention it, here. R.I.P. Andy Williams, your songs live on. * P.S. His name's just come to me... Jonathan Winters, ... A.K.A. 'The Ol' Story-teller'. A well respected U.S. comedian.... AFAIK, He's still with us. simon hudson
I seem to recall Andy Williams was also a fellow enthusiast, and something is stirring the grey matter. I'm sure I heard a radio interview a good few years ago.Every time he came to Britain he would take some models home with him I think Aster live steam i think
