Apart from that its a very silly picture. 🤪 Yes, I agree. She should be wearing proper protective boots instead of those silly sandals.

This has changed in the past 20 years. I still don't see the point of having a temporary appointee. We did have a major issue in the 70s because of a senator who died (for senators, a replacement is appointed in such cases, but is not temporary, but until the next election) and his replacement was a dodgy one, because he didn't represent the late senators party, but the opposition. It led to the events of 11/11/75, perhaps you might recall the circumstances - a notable day in Australian politics. Almost as a notable date in politics as 5/11/1605. Senators, I thought it was Commodores down there.

Erichill16
I know Seat is a part of VAG, but it did make me smile as there are so many marques that are so well established as being ‘German’.

Politicians previously got driven around in a Statesman (GM) or an LTD (Ford), now some expensive European job or a Tesla. You can get a Senator still, but not a production line model - cars are no longer made in Australia. https://www.hsv.com.au/see/senatorsignature/

It was by convention what had previously occurred, but the then Queensland state government (who were of the opposite party to the federal government), took advantage of a loophole, where they then chose one of their own. The rules have been changed since.

When I worked in Ford a few years back they were quite proud of the fact they were an American company. Especially since they never got lumped in with the poor quality British car makers of the era.
