Lovely Andy. Thorpe Hall is beautiful, what a rich colour!

Tom, I could not agree more,it is amazing.I somehow fear for "Great Northern's" wallet.

Hats off to that man Simon K @ Hornby he has moved the goalposts again. Mind you I bet he could not organise one in 7mm Scale . Go on prove me wrong Mr K. Please, pretty Please, I will Beg Honestly - no pride left after seeing that.

Thorpe Hall probably has never looked better.

Believe it or not, I am impressed.

I thought long and hard before posting this but as much as I consider the B17 is a beautiful model, I also feel a little work is required to slim down the over-deep running plate angle, To save using a scalpel to thin it down from below, it could be diguised by running a black line at the bottom of the angle and raising the height of the fine orange line. To my eyes the running plate should be as slim as that on the B1.......See what you think...

Hornby has done a dazzling job otherwise, even down to the 12-spoke bogie wheels (more typical of NER designs).

You can thank Tony Wright for the 12 spoke wheels Larry. Must be three years ago now he rang me one morning and asked me to get one of my books out and count them, as he was away from home and wanted to confirm to Simon Kohler that 10 spokes would be wrong. It's very encouraging that the manufacturers are increasingly taking the opportunity to consult people with specialist knowledge in the early stages of planned models.

I must admit to strong feelings, voiced here, about the delay in the production of these models. I also have "Thorpe Hall" on pre-order from a certain store in Liverpool at a very good price. All I can say, looking at these images is that it was (almost) well worth the wait. Can't wait to take delivery. The running plate looks fine to me - a reasonable compromise considering it is buit to run on rails a scale four foot one and a half inches apart :-)

Brilliant, I have it pre-ordered, can't wait.

Larry I agree about the appearance of the running plate but I note that the thickness is less obvious, and may in fact be 'scale' for all I know, on the black running plate LNER 'Sandringham' than on the green-plated BR 'Thorpe Hall'... and the front area with 12-spoke wheels and frame area is truly lovely.

Bravo!

'Now had a decent look at mine and it is every bit as good as the pics here suggest. Only concerns are a slightly bent tender buffer, which should fix easily, and a stray bolt in the packaging which has presumably come from somewhere within, can't see exactly where so I'll need to investigate further.

I take the point about the running plate but somehow I don't think it'll detract from my admiration of the model. The B17s were always my favourites and this is the first steam loco I've bought in about 20+ years I reckon so it must be good

Waiting to see how well they run

The example that was moving smoothily and steadily with half a dozen coaches at 9am, was still doing so at the two intervening times between then and 5pm when last I called by, and finally managed to get my nose print on the display case with the O1s and B17s in it. Swiftly followed by a dribble down the glass. Sorry to be so graphic but really we are spoiled by RTR...

Thanks Andy for posting these photos of the B17's. They look brilliant.

Hornby must have also consulted Tony Wright about the BR Green being a little too blue. His many comments in the BRM and his book on LNER pacifics does make a good point about it. Good to see it rectified.

I have the LNER version and Grimsby Town on order which is due in Jan, so wont overload the CC. Hopefully the Hornby A4 comm of Australia is on the way too. Though no word on the A4.

Could I have a pound, please, for every time somebody trots out the tired old cliche that because the gauge is wrong we shouldn't be concerned (or even have no right to be concerned) about any other dimensional innaccuracies? The logical conclusion, of course is that provided all dimensions are within about 13% of accurate we should all be happy.

I would also be very rich!
