My detailing/repainting projects

Recommended Posts

Hmmm!

In light of the remarks about the poor choice of transfers and lack of prototypical research etc on this Heljan Class 37, think on this....

When models that have been subjected to poor 'uplifting' to come up for sale, the buyer usually makes sure the price reflects the condition (and this obviously a very minor and easily corrected defect), so I hope the previous owner was happy with the transaction.

Dapol have come up with quite a stunner here. The level of detail, and standard of printing, is as good as it gets in my opinion. However, as seems to be increasingly the case, a superb model let down by iffy assembly and qc issues. Both of these examples have missing and detached parts aplenty, and flaws to the paintwork with glue marks. Such a shame. I would expect the returns rate on these to be very high.

A nice trio of very tricky liveried locos finished and ready for return to their owner.

And a further fine tuning of my 7mm class 37 sound fitting. In a two stroke attempt to solve my OCD need for tidy wiring, and proper support for the speaker, I have made some plasticard platforms that admirably manage both tasks  :paint:

Wiring tidied, speaker located.

Further fiddly bits and a new one for me, JLTRT snowplough construction. Many thanks to Roger Manton for the help and advice!

I have a couple of the new Dapol 7mm 08s on the bench to renumber and weather. The numbers were very difficult to remove, with the result that there has been a bit of paint removal too. So, repainted cabs are in order. I also took the opportunity to strip them into component parts. The inside is cavernous, we can do WAY better than the rather puny 4mm bass reflex speaker.

Another ongoing project..the rebuilding of a Heljan 0 gauge 37. The bufferbeams have been a right royal pita, I really struggled to get everything fitted and in the correct place. All done now, and also sound fitted.

Lee

I was going to ask you about your lead times as I have bought a 37 in a moment of weakness and was thinking of sending it on to you

Good to see you are busy and let me know the lead time anyway

Good morning Steve. Drop me a pm please  :paint:

I have an absolute mountain of 0 gauge projects to be getting on with. I have started a very large batch of weathering. First up a Dapol 08, and Heljan BG coach. Both in the initial stages, next it's adding more dirt/texture and various varnish finishes. The 08 is particularly tricky/enjoyable to create, these things were just thick of muck.

Finally got my computer back, so can see the pictures huge. That 68, quality control issues aside, is one heck of a model. I think that really does show how far R-T-R models have come. Just wish someone would do an 86 in the same quality
