RMweb Gold Donw Posted August 6, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 6, 2015 You seem to be cracking on at such a pace. Shame about the glazing I have no ideas to offer but thanks for the warning. It can be difficult getting access. David Jenkinson cut some planks to size so they could be laid on the tracks to use as a support for access. It was 0 gauge so maybe a bit stronger but provided the load is well spread it could be ok. Worth testing out before trying it on the layout. Possibly a better idea is to make a scenic bit than can be lifted to allow future access. The yanks sell some weird contraption that supports you over the layout. RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted August 6, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 6, 2015 (edited) The 4F on minerals is the business Al. You have captured a great sensed of distance in the first picture of it! That smoke lends a great deal of realism to the scene. Regards Shaun. Edit: Didn't realize there was 3 pages to catch up on! You have been busy mate. Nice job on the road transport and the bridge is a work of art! Edited August 6, 2015 by Sasquatch

RMweb Gold Donw Posted August 7, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 7, 2015 You could do with one of these Al. Don't look at the price and I suspect the shipping would be very costly. http://www.micromark.com/topside-creeper-step-ladder-support-system,8854.html Mind you if you were handy at welding and had access to suitable metal bits..... Don That's a brilliant looking bit of kit Don, just the sort of thing! Yes the price is a bit of an ouch Interesting idea though, a few bits of angle iron and a welder, and I'm sure I could knock something up. Cheers, Al.
RMweb Gold Popular Post Alister_G Posted August 7, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 7, 2015 I've not done a great deal more, but I thought I'd take a few photos. And here's a couple of overview shots of the layout as it stands:

Mrkirtley800
Looks really superb Al. I used to drive through Bakewell early Monday mornings in 1962 on my way to work in Stafford. The road passed over the line just north of the station. The route I took was Leeds - Sheffield - Baslow - Bakewell - Ashbourne - Uttoxeter - Stafford. No M1 or M6 then. RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted August 8, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 8, 2015 Thanks again for all your comments. Today, I've been doing some 1:1 scale construction. I finally got round to buying some timber: An example of my average carpentry: and this is the end result: Which is all to allow me to do this: Yep, I finally got the first backscene in place. And this lets me take photos like this: And even from angles like this, which is new: And this: Hmm, I wonder... Yep. looks good in black and white too... Now I'm off to take some photos with trains in Al.

Andrew P
Superb Al, and the backscene does help with the illusion. I just hope that pipe never springs a leak mate, could be nasty! Love the Black and White images, really authentic.

Yes, that pipe is a bit of a worry, thankfully it's not full all the time, and it runs near the back of the layout, but it wouldn't be pleasant if it bust . Cheers Sean, It's amazing how it adds to the scene, and it also means I don't have to muck about photoshopping the background now, so certain views I would have rejected before as being too much work, are now available. That shot down the road past the Stationmaster's house, for instance, I wouldn't have bothered with before, but I reckon that's one of the best shots now. RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted August 9, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 9, 2015 Thanks Adrian, Brian, it really does make a massive difference, doesn't it. I need to do the other end now, and work out how to do the side, without stopping me accessing the layout. Al.
