Its funny how you can get distracted from what you are modelling. I've been flicking through another pile of RM's from the early 80's and found an article on the Royal train, which is getting me thinking about making both the LMS period one and the present one.... And then in another on there is an article on the Westoe Colliery railway system.

Thats always made me want to model it. Vintage overhead electric locos, short trains (some trains were restricted to 8 wagons, other 20) of internal user 20t hopper wagons. What more is there you need. Maybe a quickie for Andy P?

...................

Now one of the strengths of this group is that everyone looks at everyone else's layouts etc and post helpful/encouraging comments.  The only problem is that is is becoming a full time job just to keep up with it all so could everyone go easy for the next month or I'll never catch up

If you skip my posts, Chris, you'll save a bit of time.....  usually crazy stuff, anyway  :tease:

I'm afraid not much time available for modelling until the end of March but will make the effort to get through all the Lunester pages on Saturday, looking at all your progress & thinking about my lack off  :boast:

Don't forget to turn your phone off and put a DO NOT DISTURB sign up....you wouldn't want to be disturbed, now would you, Billy?

I see Bodgit's been on Shedington - guess I'd better go see....

I had an interesting afternoon,

I have a Bachmann Jinty which is Factory DCC Chip fitted, and it was giving a lot of motor buzz as it started and stopped in fact it would buzz well before it moved and continue to buzz well after it had come to a halt. I tried all sorts of CV settings, copying those of other similar locos but with no joy. In the end I decided to try a new chip, I had one of the Gaugemaster DCC26 OPTI Chips so I plugged it in and it was as quiet as anything, and ran much better than before, so I decided to keep that chip on that loco.

This is where the fun began, I coiled the loom of wire and inserted the chip into the smoke box and I noticed that the Blue wire had come off the 8 pin plug. I tried the loco and as the Blue wire does nothing on a Steamer it still worked fine.

I then went on to fit the body again and the Yellow wire came off the plug, still it worked fine so then I thought SOD IT, I took it all to bits, cut all the wires about 3/4 inch from the Chip, then totally removed ALL the wires EXCEPT the Black, Grey, Red and Orange. I then re soldered the shorter loom with just the 4 wires back onto the 8 pin plug and it then fitted in the smoke box without any problems.

The body went back easier and it is better than new. :locomotive: :locomotive:

You did well getting the loom of wire into the Jinty. It always worries me when you twist the wire - I'm always sure one of the connections is going to come off. And then, when you've struggled to bet the bl**dy body back on without breaking all the valve gear, you settle down to tighten up the last screw and.... some of the wires are sticking out.... and the body has to come off and.... pigging nightmare at times!!

Grateful for the tender mounted decoders - a doddle to fit.

And Andy - aren't we glad that Billy's resurfaced?

EDIT: The Forum is VERY fast at the moment!!

Great to see you're not MIA. I was worried that no one had heard a peep out of you.

Hi,

Just a note about the Gaugemaster DCC26, TO DO A FACTORY RESET it is NOT CV 8 data 8      it is CV 8 data2

Yes Jeff it is a far easier job with just the shortened loom to fit in, If I have any more small Tanks to do I ma cut the loom down on them before I even start.

More tales of DCC nightmares!  Oh dear... :(

House wise, my last move almost went so smoothly it could have been done in no time - I was buying a house with no chain, which I'd seen before it went on the market and said I want it, my house sold to the first viewers, same estate agents, same lawyers, just a shame the searches took time really ;)

I'm surprised that nobody has commented on my red T Shirt in my avatar pic yet :)

I must admit you'd fit in well with Johnny Depp in one of those Pirates films. Maybe with a dagger between your teeth, rather than a cigarette!!  :D

Another daft photo of yours truly, this time sporting a flat top, cheap suit and ragging the crap out of a mate's bogseat (Honda C50, although nobody ever called them by their real name) down the lane past my Mum's, sans helmet (the police very rarely made an appearance in the village)

At least these photos show that I don't always wear baseball caps or beanies (just most of the time)  :)

Yep :D

I wore it to my Brother's wedding rehearsal (completely forgot I had it on); the vicar was giving me some odd looks ;)

I must admit I get to see to strange get-ups and it's not only at the rehearsal either.

Hi,

Thank you all for your kind comments about my move.  We saw some interesting places including the house that had massive extensions but no planning permission; I did wonder why they still had the old external windows on the kitchen that now faced the extension.  There was the house that had a pub with a beer garden at the bottom of its garden, and the house that when we drove up across the road someone started playing the drums in a shed in the garden.

There were only two houses in the chain but it has still taken since October to get this far.

Apparently BT are coming to sort my internet out on Wednesday 20th.  I am not sure if it will be good to go then or whether there will be sucking of teeth and telling me that my cable will need a left handed gromit of super fast speeds and did I know that you have to pay extra as they can only use green electrons in Bracknell.

This still means I will have over a week's worth of catching up to do, but once I have moved what else will I have to do?  Don't answer that!

Jason,

I did notice the T shirt but I read it as 'Porn Store' so it made no sense to me.  Nice to really see who we are talking to.

Finally, I packed a box with railway magazines yesterday.  About 10 rm/BRM/Model Rail is about equivalent in weight to 10 years or more of 009 news, but not as bulky.  What do they print it on?

Good to hear that you won't be too far behind when you get back on line.

I can remember what it was like last time I moved, took me weeks to get sort of straight in between working.

I realy don't know what's going on. I've checked back after a couple of hours and hardly any posts throughout the whole forum. :scratchhead:

I'm confused. :O  :scratchhead:

The weekend is often like that. Then we get to the evening, the Lunesters appear, and there's an avalanche of posts. It's especially quiet because Sir bodgit hasn't shown himself for a couple of hours.

Hopefully there'll be some interesting stuff on here over the next day or two...  :sungum:  :jester:

I'm Here, :O :o

The Ex Jason cold has Gone with the Wind :stinker:  (that must have been the Beans :nono:) and I have had a busy day, I don't want to say too much but I may have some pics of Glenfinick to show in the Layouts section quite soon. :declare: :declare:

Like most of you guys I have a busy weekend coming up and so I may not get much done or many looks on here until tomorrow night at least.

I am looking forward to the SURPRISE  that Jeff says is coming our way. and now that

the frame is all built

the track is all laid

the droppers are all in

the Electrics are all done,

the points are all wired,

the Mimic is working,

the draw is drawing,

and

the trains are running.

NOW CAN WE HAVE SOME GRASS PLEASE? :stinker: :stinker:

When you put it like that, Andy, I seem to have done a fair few jobs over the last 9 months since KL was started. Makes me think...

And next week, Wednesday 13th March, will be the anniversary of starting the thread. A year in public - the mind boggles!!!

Must get myself sorted out - or Andy will have me putting grass onto those beautiful white fells!!  :O  :O  :O  :O  :O

It might not be a bad idea to get a bit of the grass down, if for no other reason to break both the cost and the time it will take to cover the vast amount of fell you have....

you know it makes sense!

The other Andy
