RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted November 28, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 28, 2013 They do look very good. I built one of the Mainly Trains ones the other day (http://www.mainlytrains.co.uk/acatalog/exp_mt247.htm), but these long-legged ones look quite special. RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted November 28, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 28, 2013 Yes Rob, I subsequently found them on his thread. I would be inclined to wait for the short ones (which I will do) as those take up a lot of length.
cary hill
It was some joyriders and it ended up in the Kingsbridge dump.Talking of the sisters there will be a bit of eye candy arriving at the weekend for them. You've not bought the old buffers one of those delightful edible Hornby footbridges by any chance - they looked good enough to eat on several Warley Cake Stands last weekend. A footbridge of any sort would be great - as I have been an almost continuous prisoner on the island platform since 5th November waiting in vain for a train to pass or catch. There's a freezing wind blowing off Dartmoor most nights and, despite there being no Platform Building/Shelter available, the "Bobby" won't let me into the Box for a warm by his stove, as I was accused of "fiddling with his instruments" on a previous visit. I've another important meeting this coming Saturday afternoon with a group of angry dockers from South-East London. I suppose I'll have to make unauthorised use of the barrow crossing again and hope there are no "Star Turns" whilst I'm away.
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted November 28, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 28, 2013 Ah the beloved Millwall.Their 'fans' were the ones who caved in the window of a Collett coach of mine after a game at Home Park. Definitely not a footbridge as I don't know what I was thinking with wanting that Hagley sponge cake version.Made by Mary Berry for Hornby.
cary hill
It might be a loaded question but are the rumours of a possible "Star Turn" this weekend circulating elsewhere on RMWeb entirely without substance? I also heard rumours that urgent bogie rectification work might be needed at Newton and I just hope they had the foresight to order the necessary spares in advance Edited November 29, 2013 by cary hill

I also heard rumours that urgent bogie rectification work might be needed at Newton and I just hope they had the foresight to order the necessary spares in advance Now you know I haven't got the correct rolling stock for that combination David.Mr Gibson was on hand to supply me with the correct bogies for rectification but the fitters apparently don't have experience in this department. Lets see what tomorrow brings.
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted November 29, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 29, 2013 I've 4 Toplights. Pop them in the post then please.
RMweb Premium Sidecar Racer Posted November 29, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 29, 2013 How about some 70 footer's , when I get round to building them that is .
cary hill
In the absence of toplights a slight re-imagining of history will solve the problem. You just assume that Lode Star was returned to full working order for mainline running in 1957 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of it's building. It is then available for doubleheading with "CoT" on various 1957 West Country ramblings. The Bachmann Chocolate and Cream Mk1s will serve as plausible carriages. You'll just have to hope that 4056 isn't coming in the other direction through Brent as this will just lead to another coaching stock crisis.
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted November 30, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 30, 2013 Well I promised you some eye candy for the Finching sisters and here they are in the shape of a pair of new fitters Richard Rouncewell, brother of George seen earlier in the thread and Tommy Traddles. I was taken by the work of The Purple Primer here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/78576-the-purple-primer-painted-railway-figures/ and as he had them in stock I quickly purchased them for this scene.Dart Castings figures.Very nice too.

RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted November 30, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 30, 2013 A sunny but cold afternoon in the South Hams as a down train of oil tanks heads west to Plymouth. Recent weeks have seen this stock receive Smiths three links and are being pulled by recently finished 7200 in post war G W R livery. RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted November 30, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 30, 2013 Newton Abbot had three of these 72xx class in my period although only one is modellable in G W R livery with Hornby's current guise as the other two were 7220 and 7250.I think they were mainly used on the coal trains to and from Kingswear but I have a photo of them on Dainton.

RMweb Gold The Fatadder Posted November 30, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 30, 2013 A question re the 72xx What did you use to remove the Hornby printing? I've just been trying to remove the logos and footplate lining from a Hornby castle and will soon be needing to remove the shirt button from a grange, but my usual method using microsol doesn't seem to be touching the original finish... john flann
Rich, I use a sharp razor blade, but no doubt Rob has his own methods.

Whatever you do don't use white spirit or you might get a white bloom on the paintwork.Ask how I know. Rich, I use a sharp razor blade, but no doubt Rob has his own methods. Although I've done it in the past this particular loco was done by this top bloke http://mattingleycustom.com/ He tells me he used wet & dry carefully especially around the rivets. Here's more of 7200. Edited December 1, 2013 by gwrrob
RMweb Gold The Fatadder Posted December 1, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 1, 2013 Tried again last night Combination of the razor blade and Microsol did the trick Now have a 1940s liveried castle!
