RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted December 30, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 30, 2013 If you walk directly down this road you will come to the well known hostelry The Packhorse Inn. But not without first passing that other establishment 'The Royal Oak' (as it would have been known in those days, now, for some unknown reason, it's just called 'The Oak')... RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted December 30, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 30, 2013 Cruel in close up but what the heck.I do like the trees though. I'm pretty sure there was never a station sign here but I've added one for interest. No road vehicles on the bridge either.I used Scalescenes pavements here.
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted December 30, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 30, 2013 Those with long memories on this thread may remember me mentioning my 4540 having steam pipes when she didn't get them to the 50s.I renumbered before I had the RCTS booklet to hand. Well yesterday I stumbled across this thread http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/80312-modifying-bachmanns-45xx-praires/&do=findComment&comment=1281614 So this morning I took the steam pipes off and filled the tiny gaps. Before. After... Here from my new favourite viewpoint with my LMS Christmas present from swmbo and the newly glazed toad. Quite what Zach Plunkett makes of it all is anyone's guess.Nice looking vehicle though.
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted December 30, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 30, 2013 Glazed Toad eh? Just right for my snack....... Your bridge/road pic inspired me sometime back to do a trick with a bridge and small mirror on my layout; one day you might see and understand! Sadly no LMS wagons/vans from my SWMBO, just a load of grief about visiting bl**dy B & Q to look at kitchen stuff. I've lost the will to live............. Quack. RMweb Premium Sidecar Racer Posted December 30, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 30, 2013 it just amused me that hogwarts castle is actually a hall, and that despite having a hall, Hornby decided to sell a castle made to look like a hall pretending to be a castle, and that none of the people who give Dapol dave as was all that hassle about rivets said a word ;O) But in the books Hogwarts Castle is a castle , the train is called the Hogwarts Express , no mention of any particular type of loco . I think that's a very worthwhile and subtle modification to the Prairie. It may show Bachmann the way forward if they need to introduce a "design clever" budget Prairie requiring fewer parts. RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted December 30, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 30, 2013 And thanks so much for not putting a bus on that bridge.... If I can find a Western National bus suitable for my period I'm afraid I will.
Coombe Barton
You could always do what they did on BCB - have TWO buses on the bridge - Western National and Royal Blue, perhaps?
RMweb Premium HillsideDepot Posted December 30, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 30, 2013 Ahem, Royal Blue ran coaches! Not sure if the period is right, but Oxford are planning to produce Laira Bridge Garage's Royal Blue breakdown truck, so that could explain a coach stationary on the bridge. Not that railwaymen would laugh at their rubber-tyred cousins misfortune, of course....

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted December 30, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 30, 2013 No buses pass over that bridge these days, despite it's solid appearance and stout construction, the only roads beyond the immediate residential area are country lanes that lead to more countryside and little habitation... RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted December 31, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) The river Exe has burst it's banks at Cowley Bridge junction and all services are suspended.A bus replacement service is in place but why this Devon General OB has an Exmouth destination is beyond me.The driver has gone to spend a penny in the station's gents in case you're wondering. If this bus is correct for 1947 I will spend some time adding passengers and a new destination board. Edited December 31, 2013 by gwrrob
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted December 31, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 31, 2013 Bu**er clichés. That all looks good. Undoubtedly there were bigger "chars-a-banc" (charabancs or coaches) than the OB, but Royal Blue was the name in longer distance coach travel to the West Country in my yoof.
