A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

No, Rob. It's a new Bachmann job courtesy of Lord and Butler. I also have a 4500 coming from the same source. That will do for me on the loco front....For now...

Buy her a dishwasher (who could also do some vacuuming and a bit of gardening in their spare time).

And a sink?

And something to cook sausages with.............

Edit to add: if SWMBO reads this I may not be posting for a long time - either that or start singing soprano!

Following the sad news of Wally's passing that came to my attention over Christmas, I've been trying to find his posts on this thread. As it happens he mentioned seeing Evening Star at North Road when he was a lad of twelve.

Here is mine in action as a gesture of goodwill and thanks.

Does anyone know if any USA Transportation Corps 2-8-0s worked through Brent during the war, please?

Agree with Phil; definitely!   I especially remember them being coaled at Laira, being one of those young (very!) kids who used to happily trespass then;  I feel sorry for spotters nowadays.  I was always fascinated (still am) with their American appearance which was so different at that time.  They were fairly common, at least before and around D-Day.  Don't know when they disappeared for good except for those preserved, of course.  Glad they did that!

The stuff going out the door is not the problem.........its the arrivals.......especially as I have had a few this week....Fortunately I have big pockets.....In my coat that is.

Besides she had a new cement mixer recently. Keep 'em happy I say.

Has been discussed in this thread before:

and further down

Still would love to see a RTR model of these beasts!

(in 00, but I will be tempted to buy the Roco H0 models once it's available....)

It would make a great train pack opportunity with a WW2 troop or ambulance train like Bachmann have done with WW1

Edit to say I wonder if ROCO are connected with any of the current UK suppliers, and whether the existence of an HO model makes the production of a 00 model easier?

It is a strange old world, when the death of my best mate when I was at school, is recognised and acknowledged by a fellow from Coventry I've yet to meet in person.

I can remember Wally telling me about seeing '20 disappearing into Mutley Tunnel; I was seriously annoyed that I'd missed it.

Thanks Rob; a really thoughtful gesture.

I had no idea Wally had gone, and on checking the Obituaries, see it was in March. I never met him, but he was the sort who always added value.

OTOH I have met the chap from Coventry, and we all know how much value he adds!

It's actually to do with protecting the crown of the firebox and Sorley Tunnel if you must know.

"Yes not running bunker first might make sense when you look at that 9 mile climb up to Loddiswell...."

"But there isn't a 9 mile climb to Loddiswell!........OMG ...he's been running ANTB for nearly two years with an upside down Kingsbridge Branch gradient profile..."
