Off hand I think it's Norwich-Lowestoft-Ipswich-Lowestoft-Norwich-Cambridge tomorrow, that's all I'm on anyway (obviously not driving as I don't know over there!)

Starts in Cambridge at 14:14, 1Q98 - if you're on it passing Eccles Road I should be there

I see there's a bit of a gathering of Colas 56's at the southern end of Doncaster over the last week, I make it 56078, 087, 105 and 113 that I definitely recall, perhaps a couple of others but passing on a 225 at speed doesn't help.

had a great time driving it back to marylebone up the chilterns, like being back at chiltern again doing 100mph pretty much all of the way, some good regulating by the box at marylebone meant from being 60 mins late arriving into banbury i got to marylebone 2 minutes late by letting us pass a semi fast unit at west ruislip

and away to a hotel, was a long day yesterday but didnt feel like it as it was a good bit of variety and i wasnt driving for a lot of it, it was just planned to be the NMT job but a last minute call saying we need the 70s moving quickly off the docks meant that bit of the job was added on as a VSTP

and just for a bit more variety i've got oil train(s) tonight from doncaster to nottingham

Only managed a couple of pics last night, due to diversions theboil trains from Lindley were running via Doncaster and due to road knowledge I had to work a couple of them from Hatfield and stainforth via the Doncaster avioder and the Erewash, never got a pic of the first one but that was 60021 as far as Toton with 2800 tons then it was back in my van to Hatfield to get on 60056 with 2400 tons bound for rectory, that one went same route down the Erewash and due to my lack of route knowledge between trowell and lenton I went via Toton, Attenborough curve, beeston and into Nottingham

A totally different discipline to the night before where I was having to concentrate on the top line speed and reductions this trainbuou have to plan ahead so you don't have the brakes applied approaching rising gradients, you have to know where and slow for heavy axle weight restricted bridges etc

Who says there is no variety on the railway anymore, this week alone I've had 2x67, 2x60, 2x70, 2x43!

Hatfield

Nottingham

F6EF23BF-4070-42FF-8FEE-E1287D011BDD.jpg

And a vid of it leaving Nottingham, amazing how quiet these new low track force bogies are compared to the older TEA wagons, watch the vid and listen to the difference in sound as the older wagons in the rake pass by!

I've actually got a night at home now before doing the NMT to Newcastle tomorrow (route conducted from Doncaster)

Sometimes you look at the dearth of timetabled freight trains on some routes and you wonder quite how the railway is managing to move more freight than ever.

Then you look at the sheer size of some of these trains and you realise there might be fewer trains around but certainly no shortage of tonnage being shifted.

Which, of course, can only be good for the economics of the railway.
