I missed out in Carlisle on Friday evening, I was sat in the wapping sidings with 37116 and DBSO and 37402 came in from the coast with the loco hauled set, had I known I would have got a good pic of them side by side

Hi Chaps

A more 37's at Radyr sorry but they are black white photos

D6830 RADYR

D6886 RADYR TRAFFIC SIDINGS

D6892 RADYR 1972

Cheers

Intriguing. 6886 is presumably green because there is evidence of a worn out or removed late crest, but what about 6982? Serif font and BR arrows so presumably BR blue?

But it's got a TOPS panel so surely blue?

There were a few 'six-eighters' which acquired a TOPS renumbering whilst still in green; some had the new number applied on a blue patch. The small blue panels with all the brake-force info etc were applied locally, regardless of the loco colour.

That third one is 6982, surely? It's working a train to Dowlais; the first wagon is one of the wagons used to convey ingot moulds from Ivor Foundry. I think it's an ARM EL.

D6886 is blue, repainted in 1970.

D6982 is green, tell tale is lighter roof colour and peeling lighter colour undercoat on the bodyside, plus it was repainted blue in 1972 so would not have been that poor a condition so quickly.

Not doubting the paint date, but if 6886 is blue it's strange that the shadow of a late crest should be so clearly visible on the bodyside after only two years. And a 1970 repaint should have included BR double arrows but it doesn't have them on this side at least. Edited by brushman47544

6886: Are we sure about the paint date into BR Blue. This colour photo is dated 1973 and 6886 looks to be green https://www.flickr.com/photos/briantrailandmore/8669192684/in/pool-2168551@N22/ and also in this one dated 1974 6886 looks to be a different colour to the blue 37 behind https://www.flickr.com/photos/95430950@N07/16134529970/in/photolist-qzKFDd-ed4SXo-C2YJ2V

Not definitive perhaps but food for thought.

I'm fairly sure that we didn't have any D68XX in blue at Radyr in 1973 - all were in badly faded and very mucky green although I am trying to remember back rather a lot of years of course.  The data panels - whatever colour they were, dated from 1968 and were thus applied to relatively new locos in the case of the South Wales D68XX which had only started arriving new in 1963.

C83 was, again scratching at the memory cells one of the Rhymney Vally trips and I'm reasonably sure it was Cwmbargoed although it might have been the trip which serviced the NCB workshops at Tredomen
