Daimler Majestic, I drove Dad's one back in 1971 just after passing my test in a Mini. What a difference. A superb car but ours was getting a bit tatty by then.

I still have the leather bound owners manual.

Just found this, A young Apollo and Dads Daimler, around 1972 / 3

This weekend I found myself with free time in Granada (Southern Spain).

Apart from really enjoying the Tapas and getting a tan, (just to annoy my work colleagues - I'm here through work), I also like walking randomly around enjoying whatever I might find.

Today, I came across a small quite informal, (but well run), motor meet / display.

Here's some pics...

I think SEATs and a Fiat.

A merc and some others...

20220911_125342.jpg.cb33cbd6cb4e59466fa090d27c95b726.jpg

Two more, very nice, mercs.

20220911_125239.jpg.692c07949287902b217f7e1040900581.jpg

The pale blue Morris Minor is actually a Renault (I think), followed by two Citroens.

20220911_125235.jpg.e42a567df51ef240a5c16fd79ab6f9d7.jpg

Another merc and another very nice something else.

20220911_125209.jpg.a399ee9d4debd2d9ed42b92ffaa0c5b0.jpg

Some of the line up - and all for free. I'm really pleased they laid this on and that I happen to come across it.

20220911_125206.jpg.0a6fa496f85bfe82af6ea7c8773ec4a3.jpg

Is the red one a Fiat? Followed by Beatles, an Audi, some others, another merc, a Chrysler and more to follow.

I'll add another post with more pics...

Some more cars at the same meet.

This was beautiful, and perhaps, the best car here - although it had strong competition.

..it says "AUBURN" under the Eagle above the radiator.

I just loved this Vauxhall.

20220911_134749.jpg.810903118949a989d0806d87c60d6853.jpg

I know this is a Land Rover!

20220911_134358.jpg.71e5ad71b40b95af80401f30b855ce84.jpg

If I could come away with any pic of these cars - this Land Rover would probably be it.

(..although there are almost certainly much more valuable cars this it here.)

20220911_125510.jpg.6d3c4df39648ceb02489993be13d242d.jpg

The Chysler and some more bugs.

20220911_125445.jpg.b727d1dfc93e93c671b411b113339409.jpg

The Vauxhall again.

Sorry for the random order BUT a big thankyou muchas gracias to all who helped this free public event happen.

Kev.

The Morris Minor look-alike is a Renault 4CV, the Fiat is a 600 I think.

I never remember a Velox looking that good back in the day. By the time I was taking an interest in cars, they were getting on a bit! Stunning restoration and a paint job that, alone, will have cost more than the car did when new!

That Auburn is something else, though. Automotive Americana at its finest.

The Chrysler 180 is a real blast from the past - haven't seen one of those in ages. Nearly bought one once, but something else caught my eye instead.

The Land Rover is probably one of the licence built Spanish models.

 Santana.

[If the piccie is magnified, the Santana badge can be seen below the Land Rover badge.]

SAntana carried on producing Series Land Rovers after the licence expired [Land Rover weren't bothered, as they had moved onto the Defender]..

Sanatan modified the Series Land Rover [parabolic springs, Iveco doyzel engine, etc]and were selling them new until fairly recently.

SAntana also produced the Suzuki SJ410{?} under licence as well.

And the '60s aftermarket dash I picked up from a mate for £20, a nice little Winter project to refurbish and see what I can make of it...

I raided a 180 for its calipers but never got to do the conversion

This looks interesting.....especially if kept as an oily rag daily driver. Pity about the 25 mpg fuel consumption!  I wonder whether it's got three on the floor, or four on the floor?

I once owned an FB deluxe....1600cc though...aside from  the rear axle, it had the same running gear as the VX4/90 version, on a single carb. Would cruise all day at 70mph, gear change was a bit wayward [4 on the floor]...Certainly interesting if one had a lady passenger, and one was looking for 2nd gear. Leather seats, proper seats, not bum-huggers... Had a problem with rust in the outward ends of the diagonal outriggers.

The one above has the 1500 [plus 8cc] engine...so probably a 3 on the floor..

Edit...just blown up one of the ebay photos...according to the gear knob, it has 4 on the floor......

BUT ME , I'M RETIRED FROM DRIVING ,  driven pretty much everything , and my last vehicle is still languishing in my mates garden since i parked it there  3 yrs ago , i  was getting too irresponsible and it wasn't scaring me anymore or giving me the Adrenalin rush it once did popping wheelies at 60MPH , jumping railway level crossings and 0-60 in 3.5 secs had become boring but never the less it was heading towards half a day out with the undertakers

Another dose of rose tinted nostalgia...

This was Roger's own car, he used it to commute between Denham and Elstree each day, it passed through several owners after Roger had it and is now in the USA...

It was chosen because when they approached Jaguar and asked for a new E-Type for the show, Jag turned them down saying they didn't need the publicity. Roger Moore suggested to Robert S Baker and Johnny Goodman that they should consider the P1800 which he saw in a showroom, the call was made and a few days later Volvo happily sent two cars over to the UK.

a lesson they learned from , they gave an XJS for the ian ogilvy  return of the saint TV show
