RMweb Gold DaveF Posted December 3, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 3, 2013 HI Dave Again some wonderful photos, one thing , What is the sign meant to be about cyclist?. Darren01 From memory (it was a long time ago when I saw the sign) I think it refers to using the pedestrian gates with a bicycle to save the crossing keeper having to open the road gates. LNERGE
Wow love the ground frame! I hadn't put that style of key locks at that age. Why two keys and what would they have been release from? There would be a lump like this on each gate post.. both keys need to go in the keylock on the lever to release it...

RMweb Gold DaveF Posted December 4, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 4, 2013 Here are today's images slightly later than usual as I've been to Otterburn and other places in the Northumberland National Park as the weather was so good today. One traditional front three quarters view and three others. The last two needed a bit of work with Google Earth to confirm the locations though I think Coachmann would know them. RMweb Premium keefer Posted December 4, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 4, 2013 (edited) D9018 shot is interesting - 1A16 in 1967 was the down "flying scotsman" Doesn't seem to have any mk2 coaches (unless it had FKs on the far end), the b/g mk1s seem to have the early small numbers and there's at least one maroon coach in the rake (restaurant car, possibly an RU judging by underframe detail) Edited December 4, 2013 by keefer

5050
The only time I ever went abroad with my father was a day trip by hoovercraft (!) to Calais. The trip out was choppy, with sick bags being deployed by several others, and the return trip was cancelled, so we got a free trainride to Boulogne and came back by ferry! We came back from honeymoon on IoW on one of these. My new wife wasn't feeling to good and the sea was very 'choppy' so we took the 'quicker alternative'. Needless to say she was feeling even worse when we got off! The effect that her green face had on the waiting queue is unforgettable Your photos are excellent, can't believe I've only just found this thread. The Leeds etc. ones from the 60's are before my time up here, dating from when Yorkshire and beyond was still a foreign land and the M62 was unthought of. To get to Yorkshire from North Wales by road meant blankets, flasks, sandwiches - and a strong bladder!

RMweb Gold DaveF Posted December 5, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 5, 2013 The wind is now dropping, as is the temperature and my house is far enough above sea level not to be at risk of flooding at high tide so I can post today's photos before I go to look at just how high the tide is. One loco on a train and three "infrastructure" shots for today. RMweb Gold DaveF Posted December 7, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 7, 2013 (edited) Four more for this evening, three locations. We'll start with another look at one of the pw machines at Thirsk before seeing a down freight . Then a quick trip to Stainforth sidings between Settle and Horton in Ribblesdale on the Settle and Carlisle. I think this was the day I spilt some ilk in Dad's car - it took a long time to get rid of the sour milk smell afterwards. Lastly we arrive at York for the first of a number of photos. RMweb Gold DaveF Posted December 10, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 10, 2013 Three more at York on the same cold day then we move to 17th March 1968 at Skipton to see the first of a number of photos of the two Williams Deacons Bank Club railtours which ran on that day. They started from Stockport and ran to Carnforth and back by a roundabout route, there are details on the Six Bells Junction website. At least in March it wasn't frosty but there was a bitterly cold "lazy" wind. As was so often the case in the last few months of steam the waiting enthusiasts were allowed trackside.
